Android Auto 14.6 is a historical 2025 release, not the current Android Auto version. The release family included a stable branch identified as 14.6.6524 and a separate beta branch identified as 14.6.1523. The most useful exact build numbers are 14.6.652404-release for the first documented stable arm64 package and 14.6.152344-release.daily for the beta.
If you are trying to make Android Auto work today, check Google Play first. Google says Android Auto is integrated into compatible Android phones and normally does not need to be downloaded separately. An archived APK is mainly relevant when you need a specific historical version, are investigating a compatibility problem, or understand the risks of manual installation.

What Android Auto 14.6 actually was
The phrase “Android Auto 14.6 stable and beta” describes two different release tracks, not one package that can be installed in both forms:
- Beta: Android Auto
14.6.1523, build14.6.152344-release.daily, version code146152344. - Stable: Android Auto
14.6.6524, including the documented arm64 build14.6.652404-releaseand later configuration variants.
Both were listed as Google LLC software using the package name com.google.android.projection.gearhead. Their published change description was broadly the same: bug fixes and other improvements. The beta and stable numbers should not be treated as interchangeable simply because they both begin with “14.6.”

The package information discussed here comes from historical APK listings. It does not represent an independent installation test, and an archived package is not a guarantee that Android Auto will work with a particular phone, vehicle, receiver, Android release, or region.
Stable 14.6.6524 versus beta 14.6.1523
| Track | Important build | Package | Historical minimum shown in package listing | Best use |

Google’s official beta route is Google Play’s Android Auto testing program. After joining, the app is updated through Google Play. Google warns that beta software can be less stable and that some features may not work correctly. Google also states that only one Android Auto version can be installed on a phone at a time. In practice, that means you should not expect to keep the stable and beta 14.6 packages side by side.
An APKMirror beta listing can be useful as an archive of the exact Google-signed package, but it is still a third-party manual-installation route. It is not the same as enrolling in Google’s testing program.
Android Auto 14.6 release dates and build history
Android Auto 14.6 appeared in stages during the 2025 release cycle:
- June 14, 2025: The beta build
14.6.152344-release.dailyand the first documented stable arm64 bundle,14.6.652404-release, were listed. - June 25 and July 3, 2025: More stable
14.6.6524variants appeared, including builds ending in434,414, and444. - July 5–9, 2025: Additional arm64 and armeabi-v7a variants appeared, including builds ending in
454and453. - July 21, 2025: The arm64 variant
14.6.652484was listed. - July 26–August 3, 2025: The later
14.6.6585branch appeared, including14.6.658534-release, uploaded August 1.
Contemporaneous coverage described the wider stable rollout as primarily a maintenance update. There was no confirmed headline feature associated with Android Auto 14.6 in the available release information.
What changed in Android Auto 14.6?
The defensible answer is limited: bug fixes and other improvements. The published package notes do not provide a detailed feature list, and contemporaneous reporting did not confirm a major user-facing addition.
Do not assume that 14.6 introduced a particular interface redesign, Gemini integration, a new light theme, or another named feature unless you have a separate source for that claim. Android Auto behavior can also change through server-side updates, Google Play services, the phone operating system, the vehicle receiver, and individual app updates, so a version-number upgrade does not necessarily produce the same visible changes on every vehicle.

Why there are several Android Auto 14.6 APK files
The stable 14.6.6524 family was distributed as APK bundles rather than one universal standalone APK. The listings included different CPU architectures, screen-density configurations, language resources, and split packages.
Architecture choices
- arm64-v8a: Common on modern 64-bit Android phones.
- armeabi-v7a: Intended for compatible 32-bit ARM devices.
- x86 and x86_64: Intended for compatible Intel-based Android devices or emulators.
A package’s architecture must match the device. Installing the wrong architecture can fail immediately or produce an app that does not function correctly.
DPI and configuration choices
Historical listings included configurations covering ranges such as 120–640 dpi as well as a 480 dpi option. DPI selection is part of the split-package configuration, not a reason to randomly choose the smallest-looking file. When available, an installer that evaluates the phone and selects compatible splits is safer than manually guessing.
Why a normal file manager may not be enough
An APK bundle can contain a base APK plus split APKs. Extracting one split, renaming it, or installing only the base file does not turn the bundle into a complete universal APK. A compatible split-package installer, such as APKMirror Installer or another reputable tool that supports the bundle format, may be required.
Before installing, check the listing’s architecture, Android minimum, DPI range, language/configuration, signing information, and whether the download is a bundle. Preserve the Google signing identity. Do not use modified, “premium,” repacked, or otherwise tampered Android Auto packages from unknown sites.
Google Play or manual APK installation?
Use Google Play in the normal case
Google’s setup guidance says Android Auto is integrated into compatible phones and normally does not need a separate download. The preferred order is:
- Open Google Play and search for Android Auto or check the app’s installed updates.
- Install the current version offered to your phone.
- Confirm that your vehicle or aftermarket receiver supports Android Auto.
- Follow the vehicle-specific setup instructions from the manufacturer.
As of August 12, 2026, Android Auto 14.6 is old. The Android Auto release index had reached the 17.x series, including version 17.3.6628 uploaded July 11, 2026. Do not install 14.6 merely because its number is familiar or because an older APK is easier to find. A current Google Play version is normally the better choice.

When an archived APK may make sense
Manual installation can be reasonable for a technically experienced user who needs to reproduce a historical software environment or investigate whether a particular release changed behavior. It may also be considered when a current rollout is unavailable, although that does not remove the compatibility and security risks.

Installing an older package over a newer one may be blocked as a downgrade, may require removing the newer version, or may affect app data and compatibility. Never assume that uninstalling Android Auto is harmless; follow the phone manufacturer’s behavior for system-integrated applications and be prepared to return to the current Google Play version.
Compatibility requirements
There is an important difference between the Android minimum printed in the historical APK metadata and Google’s current consumer setup guidance. The 14.6 listings identify Android 8.0 or later as the package minimum. Google’s current setup documentation says Android Auto on a car display requires Android 9.0 or newer. The listing minimum should therefore not be read as a promise that every Android 8 phone can use Android Auto in a vehicle.
Actual compatibility depends on several factors:
- The phone’s Android version and Google services.
- The phone’s CPU architecture and installed package configuration.
- Whether the device is Android Go; Google says Android Auto is not available on Android Go devices.
- The vehicle or aftermarket receiver’s Android Auto support.
- Whether the phone and vehicle support wired, wireless, or both connection modes.
- Active data service and, for wireless operation, compatible 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Regional, manufacturer, and software-version support.
Check the vehicle manufacturer or stereo maker for compatibility before treating an APK installation as a solution. An APK cannot add Android Auto support to a receiver that lacks the required hardware or firmware.
Wired Android Auto setup
Google’s current guidance lists these practical requirements for wired Android Auto:
Recommended Free Tools
- An Android phone running Android 9.0 or newer.
- An active mobile data plan.
- A compatible vehicle or aftermarket receiver.
- A high-quality USB data cable.
Connect the phone to the vehicle’s Android Auto-capable USB port, unlock the phone, and accept the on-screen permissions. Keep the vehicle parked while pairing and configuring the system. If the connection repeatedly disconnects, the cable is one of the first things to investigate.
Google recommends a high-quality cable, preferably under one metre, and advises against hubs and extension cables. For a wired setup, a short high-quality USB cable for Android Auto is a sensible troubleshooting accessory—not a substitute for a compatible phone or vehicle. Match the connector at both ends and make sure the cable supports data, not only charging.
Wireless Android Auto setup
Wireless Android Auto requires more than installing the correct APK. Google’s guidance calls for a compatible phone, an active data plan, a compatible car or stereo, and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. During initial setup, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services should remain enabled.

- Accept the Android Auto prompts on the phone and vehicle display.
- Allow the initial connection to complete before testing navigation, calls, or media.
A Android Auto wireless adapter may be useful for readers whose vehicle already supports wired Android Auto and whose phone/adapter combination is compatible with wireless projection. It is not a universal workaround: the adapter must match the vehicle’s supported connection method, and compatibility varies by vehicle, phone, firmware, and adapter model.

Troubleshooting an Android Auto 14.6 installation or connection
1. Confirm that the phone and vehicle qualify
Start with the current Android requirement, Android Go restriction, active data service, vehicle compatibility, and the connection mode you are attempting. If the car or stereo does not support Android Auto, changing from one 14.6 APK variant to another will not solve the problem.
2. Check the exact package and architecture
Do not troubleshoot using only “Android Auto 14.6.” Record the complete build string, such as 14.6.652404-release or 14.6.152344-release.daily. Then verify the phone architecture—arm64-v8a, armeabi-v7a, x86, or x86_64—and the DPI/configuration requirements.
3. Determine whether the download is a bundle
If the download includes a base APK and split APKs, install the complete bundle with a split-aware installer. Installing only one component can cause an installation failure, missing resources, or an app that opens but cannot operate correctly.
4. Look for downgrade or signature conflicts
A newer Android Auto installation may prevent an older 14.6 package from installing. A package from an unknown source may also fail because its signing identity does not match the existing Google installation. Do not bypass a signature mismatch with a modified package. Return to Google Play whenever possible.
5. Replace the cable for wired connections
Use a short, high-quality data cable directly between the phone and the vehicle. Avoid hubs, extensions, loose connectors, and cables that are designed only for charging. If Android Auto worked previously and has stopped, replacing the cable may fix the issue.
6. Recheck wireless prerequisites
For wireless problems, verify Bluetooth pairing, Wi-Fi, Location Services, 5 GHz Wi-Fi support, active data service, and vehicle compatibility. Test with the car parked and remove competing Bluetooth or projection connections if the vehicle is trying to connect to another phone.
7. Restore the current supported version
If the archived package causes problems, return to the current Google Play release rather than repeatedly trying random APK variants. If the app is integrated into the phone, the exact removal or rollback controls may vary by manufacturer and Android version.

Optional hardware upgrades
For cars that already have wired Android Auto
A wireless adapter can reduce cable clutter, but check the adapter’s compatibility list before buying. The vehicle must generally have a working wired Android Auto implementation, and the phone, adapter, and vehicle must support the intended wireless arrangement.

An Android Auto-compatible aftermarket head unit may be a more appropriate solution than an APK. Fit, wiring, steering-wheel controls, backup-camera integration, dashboard trim, amplifier compatibility, and professional installation requirements vary by vehicle. Verify the exact year, make, model, trim, and factory options before selecting a receiver.
Neither accessory category changes the fact that Android Auto software must remain compatible with the phone and receiver. Hardware should be treated as a vehicle-specific upgrade, not a guaranteed fix for an APK problem.
What not to install or recommend
- Do not use modified Android Auto APKs that claim premium features, unlocked functions, or guaranteed compatibility.
- Do not install both stable and beta versions side by side. Google says only one Android Auto version can be installed on a phone.
- Do not call 14.6 the latest version in 2026; it belongs to the 2025 release cycle.
- Do not recommend Windows driver-updater software for this problem. Outbyte Driver Updater targets Windows PC driver maintenance, not Android Auto phone software or vehicle projection.
- Do not describe StreamNeo as an Android Auto app. It is a cloud service for looping owned or cleared video as continuous live streams and is unrelated to Android Auto APK installation or vehicle connectivity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Android Auto 14.6 the latest version?
No. Android Auto 14.6 is from the 2025 release cycle. As of August 12, 2026, the documented release index had reached the 17.x series, including 17.3.6628. Check Google Play for the current version.
What is the difference between Android Auto 14.6.1523 and 14.6.6524?
14.6.1523 refers to the beta branch, including build 14.6.152344-release.daily. 14.6.6524 refers to the stable branch, including build 14.6.652404-release and later variants. They are separate release tracks and should not be installed side by side.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCan Android Auto 14.6 be installed on Android 8?
The historical package listings show Android 8.0+ as the minimum, but Google’s current consumer setup guidance says Android Auto on a car display requires Android 9.0 or newer. Android version alone is not enough; phone architecture, Google services, vehicle support, connection mode, and regional availability also matter.
Why will an Android Auto 14.6 APK not install?
Common causes include selecting the wrong CPU architecture or DPI configuration, trying to install only part of an APK bundle, attempting to downgrade a newer installation, or using a package with an incompatible signing identity. Check the complete build string and use a reputable split-package installer when required.
Does Android Auto 14.6 add Gemini or a major new interface?
The available 14.6 release information does not confirm a named major feature. Its published summary is “bug fixes and other improvements,” and contemporaneous coverage described it as mainly a maintenance release.
What cable should I use for wired Android Auto?
Use a high-quality USB data cable, preferably under one metre, connected directly to the vehicle’s Android Auto-capable USB port. Avoid hubs and extension cables. A short high-quality USB cable for Android Auto can be a reasonable troubleshooting purchase when the connection is unreliable.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Android Auto 14.6 means a 2025 stable branch, 14.6.6524, and a separate beta branch, 14.6.1523. It was primarily a bug-fix release, its archived downloads commonly use split APK bundles, and the package listing’s Android 8.0 minimum should not override Google’s current Android 9.0 consumer setup guidance. In 2026, use Google Play’s current Android Auto release unless you have a specific, well-understood reason to reproduce the older 14.6 software.
