By reported U.S. sales and registrations for calendar year 2024, the Ford Mustang ranked first, followed by the Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche 911. Road & Track’s ranking puts the Toyota GR86 fourth and lists six more coupes and roadsters in its top ten. These figures measure reported volume—not quality, reliability, popularity in searches, or a uniform retail-sales category.
America’s 10 best-selling sports cars in 2024
The order and model totals below are from Road & Track’s 2025 ranking of reported 2024 U.S. sports-car sales. The figures are not drawn from one comprehensive, manufacturer-neutral dataset, so they should be read as that publication’s ranked list rather than a definitive census of every vehicle that could be called a sports car.
| Rank | Model | Reported 2024 U.S. total |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ford Mustang | 44,003 |
| 2 | Chevrolet Corvette | 33,330 |
| 3 | Porsche 911 | 14,128 |
| 4 | Toyota GR86 | 11,426 |
| 5 | Mazda MX-5 Miata | 8,103 |
| 6 | Chevrolet Camaro | 5,859 |
| 7 | Porsche 718 | 5,698 |
| 8 | Subaru BRZ | 3,345 |
| 9 | Nissan Z | 3,164 |
| 10 | Toyota GR Supra | 2,615 |
Road & Track’s 2024 ranking is the source for the order and all ten numbers. The numbers alone do not establish which car is best for a particular buyer; the list compares reported volume, not price, equipment, performance, or ownership costs.
What the sales ranking shows
Mustang and Corvette lead
The Mustang’s 44,003 reported units put it 10,673 ahead of the Corvette’s 33,330. Ford’s 2025 retrospective attributes the Mustang’s first-place claim to S&P Global Mobility total U.S. new-vehicle registrations across sports-car segments for calendar year 2024. Ford says that category includes two-door coupes and convertibles; this is Ford’s description of the basis for its claim, not a direct quotation from S&P. Ford’s 2024 sales statement explains that basis.

The 911 and GR86 follow
The Porsche 911 ranked third at 14,128, and the Toyota GR86 ranked fourth at 11,426. Their manufacturers separately reported matching totals, though the reporting terms differ: Porsche calls its figure U.S. retail deliveries, while Toyota reports U.S. sales. Porsche described its 911 figure as a record. Porsche Cars North America’s January 13, 2025 release reports the 911 and 718 delivery totals; Toyota Motor North America’s January 3, 2025 release reports GR86 and Supra sales.
The middle and lower positions are close
The Miata’s 8,103 units placed it fifth, while the Camaro’s 5,859 and Porsche 718’s 5,698 followed. The BRZ recorded 3,345, just ahead of the Nissan Z at 3,164; the Supra rounded out the list at 2,615. The ranking reports Miata sales down from 8,973 in 2023, BRZ sales down from 4,188, and Z sales up from 1,771.

Why “popular” needs a definition
Here, popular means the models with the highest reported U.S. unit totals in Road & Track’s list for calendar year 2024. It is not a measure of owner satisfaction, dependability, search interest, or a consistent count of retail transactions across every automaker.
The list’s boundaries are imperfect. Road & Track says its ranking covers sports cars for which it could obtain data and is not complete. Manufacturers sometimes combine body styles, trims, or related variants in their sales reporting, making it difficult to isolate a like-for-like sports-car total. Ford’s S&P-based category, for example, explicitly spans two-door coupes and convertibles. Other sources can use different segmentation rules, so rankings built on different definitions may not match.

There is also a timing caveat for the Camaro: Chevrolet ended production in December 2023. Its 2024 total reflects vehicles remaining in dealer inventory, not a full year of new production. The reported number is therefore not directly comparable to a model being built throughout 2024 as an indicator of ongoing production demand.
