Yes—but Amazon Autos is not Amazon becoming a traditional car dealer. It is an online marketplace and purchase workflow that connects shoppers with participating dealerships. Eligible customers can browse vehicles, review pricing and vehicle information, arrange financing, complete much of the paperwork online, and schedule pickup at a local dealer. The dealer—not Amazon—supplies the vehicle, controls inventory and pricing, handles delivery or pickup, and remains responsible for service after the sale.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
That distinction matters. You cannot generally order a car through Amazon in the same way you order a package, nor does Amazon own all the cars listed on the platform. Amazon provides the digital storefront and customer reach; participating dealers remain the sellers and fulfillment point.

| Amazon Autos is | Amazon Autos is not |
|---|---|
| A marketplace for selected new, used, and certified pre-owned vehicles | A nationwide Amazon-owned dealership |
| An online vehicle-shopping and transaction workflow | A standard “Buy Now” parcel-delivery service |
| A way to connect shoppers with participating local dealers | A system in which Amazon sets every price or owns every vehicle |
| A platform where eligible shoppers may complete financing and purchase steps online | A guarantee that every make, model, dealer, or financing option is available in every ZIP code |
Amazon’s dealer-facing materials describe a “dealer-first” model. Dealers can list vehicles, set prices, manage inventory, and connect their dealer-management or inventory systems to Amazon. The platform can make the buying process more digital, but it does not eliminate the dealership from the transaction.

When did Amazon start selling cars online?
Amazon and Hyundai announced their strategic partnership on November 16, 2023. Hyundai was named the first automaker whose vehicles would be available for purchase through Amazon in the United States, with the launch originally described as coming in 2024.
According to Amazon’s later account of the project, employees began testing the service in January 2024. The new-vehicle marketplace launched publicly in December 2024, initially with Hyundai dealerships.
The service subsequently expanded:
- November 2023: Amazon and Hyundai announced the partnership and planned U.S. vehicle-sales initiative.
- January 2024: Amazon began an employee beta, according to Amazon Autos leader Fan Jin.
- December 2024: Amazon says the new-vehicle marketplace launched with Hyundai dealerships.
- August 2025: Amazon announced used and certified pre-owned inventory, beginning in Los Angeles and expanding to additional cities.
- November 2025: Ford Blue Advantage certified pre-owned vehicles became available from participating Ford dealers, initially in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Dallas.
Amazon’s current dealer materials describe a growing marketplace covering new, used, and certified pre-owned vehicles. Coverage remains dependent on participating dealers, inventory, vehicle category, and location.
How buying a car through Amazon Autos works
The exact screens and available terms can change, but the general process is different from buying an ordinary Amazon product.
1. Search the available inventory
A shopper starts by entering a location and browsing eligible vehicles. Listings may include the vehicle’s price, specifications, mileage, features, history information, availability, and dealer details. Depending on the market and vehicle category, shoppers may filter by make, model, year, color, and other criteria.
Inventory is connected through dealer-management-system integrations. This allows listings to be updated as vehicles are added, changed, or sold. It also means that a vehicle can become unavailable before a shopper finishes the transaction. A listing should not be treated as a permanent reservation unless Amazon and the dealer explicitly confirm that it is reserved.
2. Review the vehicle and transaction terms
Before proceeding, compare the advertised price with the full purchase cost. Check taxes, registration charges, documentation fees, delivery or pickup charges, optional protection products, financing costs, and any dealer-installed accessories.

- [Easy to Use—Work Out of the Box] + [FOXWELL 2026 New Version] FOXWELL NT604 Elite scan tool is the 2026 new version from FOXWELL, designed for car owners who want to figure out the cause of issues before fixing car problems by scanning common systems like ABS, SRS, engine, and transmission. The NT604 Elite obd2 scanner diagnostic tool comes with the latest software—no need to waste time downloading software first. Plug the scanner into the OBDII port with OBDII cable to start the diagnosis.
- [Affordable] + [Reliable Car Health Monitor] Will you be confused what happens when the warning light of ABS/SRS/transmission/check engine flashes? Instead of taking your cars to dealership, this FOXWELL scanner will help you do a thorough scanning and detection for your cars and pinpoint the root cause. Note:The device is a diagnostic tool, not a repair tool. To turn off a warning light, you must first physically repair the issue causing it. Only then can the scanner be used to clear the corresponding fault code.
- [5 in 1 Car Diagnostic Scanner] Compared with obd scanners (50-100), NT604 Elite code scanner not only includes their OBDII diagnosis but also serves as ABS/SRS scanner, transmission and check engine code reader. When it’s an odb2 scanner, you can use it to check if your car is ready for annual test through I/M readiness menu. In addition, live data stream, built-in DTC library, data play back and print, all these features are a big plus for it. Note: doesn't support maintenance functions like reset or relearn. For the SRS system, NT604 Elite can read and clear common fault codes not caused by a crash, but crash/collision data cannot be cleared.
- [Fantastic AUTOVIN] + [No extra software fee] Through the AUTOVIN menu, this NT604 Elite car scanner allows you to get your V-IN and vehicle info rapidly, no need to take time to find your V-IN and input one by one. What's more, the NT604 Elite ABS SRS scanner supports 60+ car brands from worldwide (America/Asia/Europe). You don’t need to pay extra software fee. AUTOVIN may not work on some older vehicles or certain vehicle brands. If AUTOVIN fails, please input the vin code manually or go to the Diagnostic Menu to select your vehicle model.
- [Solid protective case KO plastic carrying bag] + [Lifetime update] Almost all same price-level car scanner diagnostic tool only offers plastic bag to hold the scanner. However, NT604 Elite automotive scanner is equipped with solid protective case, preventing your obd2 scanner from damage. Then you don’t need to pay extra money to buy a solid toolbox.
Also verify the vehicle identification number, mileage, title status, accident or damage history, warranty coverage, return terms, and the name of the actual selling dealer. The Amazon interface can simplify the process, but it does not remove the need to read the buyer’s order and final contract.
3. Arrange financing
Amazon says eligible shoppers can arrange financing as part of the online purchase workflow. Availability and terms depend on the vehicle, buyer, lender, dealer, and location. An online payment estimate is not the same as a final loan approval, and the annual percentage rate, term, amount financed, taxes, fees, and optional products should all be confirmed before signing.
It is sensible to compare the offered financing with a preapproval from a bank or credit union. Focus on the total amount paid over the life of the loan—not only the monthly payment.
4. Complete paperwork and purchase steps online
Amazon’s announcements describe a process in which shoppers can complete substantial financing, paperwork, and purchase steps online. The exact amount of remote completion varies by transaction. Some documents, identity checks, disclosures, signatures, trade-in steps, or state-required processes may still require additional interaction with the dealer.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
5. Pick up the vehicle from the dealer
The normal handoff remains local. The participating dealership supplies the car and arranges pickup; some dealers may offer delivery, but delivery should not be assumed simply because the purchase began on Amazon.
At pickup, inspect the vehicle in daylight, confirm the VIN and mileage, verify that promised equipment is present, and make sure you receive the keys, title or title-processing documents, temporary registration, warranty information, and service records that apply to the transaction.
What protections apply?
Protection terms depend on whether the vehicle is used, certified pre-owned, or new, and on the specific manufacturer or dealer program. Do not assume that one Amazon Autos policy applies to every listing.

Used and certified pre-owned vehicles
Amazon’s August 2025 announcement for its used and certified pre-owned expansion described a three-day or 300-mile return policy and at least a 30-day or 1,000-mile limited warranty for vehicles in that program. The announcement also described transparent pricing, vehicle-history reports, and vehicle information, with participating dealerships supporting test drives.

Ford Blue Advantage certified pre-owned vehicles
Ford’s program has its own protections. Amazon reported that Ford Blue Advantage certification tiers involve different inspections and limited warranties. Vehicles sold through participating Ford dealers also include a 14-day or 1,000-mile money-back guarantee through Ford Blue Advantage, according to Amazon’s launch announcement.
Those Ford terms should not be generalized to every Amazon Autos vehicle. Ford-certified inventory, Hyundai inventory, ordinary used vehicles, and other future programs may have different inspections, warranties, return rights, and eligibility requirements.
Where is Amazon Autos available?
Amazon Autos is not a uniformly available nationwide direct-sales service. The used and certified pre-owned rollout began in Los Angeles, while the initial Ford Blue Advantage expansion named Los Angeles, Seattle, and Dallas. Amazon’s dealer materials also describe a 75-mile sales radius for vehicle availability and emphasize expansion in major metropolitan areas.

In practice, availability depends on:
- the shopper’s ZIP code;
- participating dealers near that location;
- the vehicle’s make, model, category, and certification status;
- current dealer inventory;
- state and local sales requirements; and
- the financing and delivery options supported for that transaction.
Before publishing or relying on a specific availability claim, check the live Amazon Autos storefront using the intended buyer’s ZIP code. Amazon’s list of participating brands, dealers, cities, financing partners, incentives, and protection terms can change independently of its dated announcements.
Why Hyundai was the launch partner
The Hyundai partnership was broader than vehicle listings. The companies also announced work involving Amazon Web Services and Alexa Built-in experiences in future Hyundai vehicles. Hyundai was the first brand selected to sell vehicles through Amazon’s U.S. store.

Amazon’s retrospective account says Hyundai was willing to co-invest in the initiative. Amazon had already observed customer interest in researching vehicles and moving further into the purchase journey. That makes Amazon Autos more significant than a simple classified-listing experiment: it is an attempt to extend Amazon’s familiar shopping interface into a high-value, locally fulfilled purchase.
What Ford’s participation changes
Ford’s November 2025 launch expanded Amazon Autos beyond its original Hyundai and new-vehicle focus. The arrangement centered on Ford Blue Advantage certified pre-owned vehicles sold by participating Ford dealers. Shoppers could browse eligible vehicles, arrange financing and paperwork, and schedule pickup.
Ford’s participation is evidence that the marketplace can support manufacturer-certified used inventory as well as new vehicles. It is not evidence that Amazon now offers unrestricted, full-line inventory from every automaker. The available brands and categories remain controlled by participating dealers and manufacturer programs.
What dealers keep control over
Dealers retain more control than the headline “Amazon sells cars” might suggest.
- Inventory: Dealers decide which vehicles to list and must keep availability updated.
- Pricing: Amazon says dealers set their vehicle prices.
- Fulfillment: The dealer provides the physical car and arranges pickup or any available delivery.
- Customer relationship: The dealer remains involved before and after the sale.
- Service: Maintenance, warranty assistance, repairs, and other ongoing support remain dealership or manufacturer responsibilities.
Amazon’s enrollment materials are aimed principally at franchised dealerships in major metropolitan areas and state that independent dealers are not currently being onboarded. That limits the seller pool and is another reason not to describe Amazon Autos as the entire U.S. car market.

How to protect yourself before completing an online car purchase
- Confirm the seller. Identify the participating dealer that will appear on the purchase contract and provide the vehicle.
- Verify the VIN. Make sure the VIN in the listing, history report, paperwork, and vehicle itself matches.
- Request the complete price. Ask for a written buyer’s order showing taxes, fees, add-ons, registration, delivery, and the amount financed.
- Read the return policy. Check whether the applicable limit is three days, 300 miles, 14 days, 1,000 miles, or another program-specific term.
- Review warranty coverage. Distinguish a limited warranty, manufacturer certification warranty, service contract, and dealer promise.
- Compare financing. Evaluate APR, loan term, total interest, amount financed, and prepayment conditions—not just the monthly payment.
- Ask about trade-ins. Confirm the trade-in value, payoff handling, condition requirements, and what happens if the appraisal changes.
- Arrange an inspection. For a used vehicle, a vehicle-history report is not a substitute for an independent pre-purchase inspection. If you want an inexpensive first check, an OBD2 scanner for used-car inspection can identify some diagnostic trouble codes, but it cannot assess body repairs, tires, suspension, leaks, structural damage, or overall safety.
- Prepare for pickup. Confirm the appointment, required identification, insurance requirements, temporary tags, payment method, and documents you will receive.
A car-buying guide can also be useful before reviewing the final contract, particularly for readers who have not compared financing, inspected a used vehicle, or calculated the total ownership cost before.
So, is Amazon officially in the online car-sales business?
Yes. The accurate version of the headline is that Amazon has entered online vehicle retail in the United States through Amazon Autos. The service can support browsing, financing, online purchase steps, and dealer pickup for eligible vehicles.
The inaccurate version is that Amazon has replaced car dealerships or owns and delivers every vehicle listed on its site. Amazon Autos is a dealer-connected marketplace. Dealers continue to control inventory and pricing and remain responsible for the car, handoff, service, and continuing customer relationship.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Amazon own the cars sold through Amazon Autos?
No. Amazon Autos is a marketplace and transaction workflow connecting shoppers with participating dealerships. The dealer supplies the vehicle, controls its listed price and inventory, and handles pickup, delivery, and service.
Can everyone in the United States buy any car through Amazon Autos?
Not necessarily. Amazon Autos availability depends on the shopper’s ZIP code, participating dealers, vehicle category, and current inventory. Amazon has described staged expansion in metropolitan areas rather than universal nationwide availability.
What is Amazon Autos’ return policy?
Amazon’s used and CPO announcement described a three-day/300-mile return policy and a minimum 30-day/1,000-mile limited warranty for vehicles in that program. Ford Blue Advantage CPO vehicles have different program terms, including a reported 14-day/1,000-mile money-back guarantee. Always verify the individual listing and contract.
Does Amazon deliver the car to your home?
The vehicle is generally picked up from the participating local dealership. Some dealers may provide delivery, but delivery is not automatic simply because the purchase began online.
Can you finance a car through Amazon Autos?
Yes, for eligible transactions Amazon says shoppers can arrange financing and complete purchase steps online. The available lender, APR, paperwork, taxes, fees, and state-required steps vary by buyer, dealer, vehicle, and location.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Amazon Autos makes Amazon a genuine participant in online car sales, but not a conventional nationwide car dealer. It is a marketplace and digital transaction layer for selected vehicles supplied by local participating dealerships. Availability, financing, return rights, warranties, and fees vary by location, dealer, vehicle category, and manufacturer program.
