The fleet handles jobs ranging from hay and manure work to tillage and grain-cart duty—not just display or occasional hobby use, according to Tharran Gaines’s January 8, 2025, Successful Farming profile.
How the Postins use a classic Allis-Chalmers fleet
The brothers grow corn, soybeans, and hay and raise livestock. Their tractors cover a range of farm jobs, with smaller or mid-sized machines used for hay and manure work and articulated four-wheel-drive tractors assigned to tillage and grain-cart work. The examples below are reported uses, not a comparison of horsepower, fuel economy, capacity, or reliability.
| Tractor or group | Reported configuration or use | What the profile establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Three 7010s | One open platform, one with a canopy, and one with a factory cab; used seasonally for a rake, baler, or manure spreader | The brothers describe different operator arrangements and seasonal jobs; the profile does not assign each configuration to a specific implement. |
| 7050 | Canopy; often paired with the no-till drill | A recurring reported implement pairing, without drill specifications or performance figures. |
| Three 7580s, an 8550, and a 4W-305 | Articulated four-wheel-drive tractors used for tillage; these are among the tractors that may pull the grain cart during harvest | The article identifies the models and jobs but does not rank them or provide comparative measurements. |
| Other named tractors | D15, 200, 220, and the 5000, 6000, 7000, and 8000 series | Examples in the fleet, not a complete inventory. |
The farm also has a late-model New Holland with front-wheel assist and a loader. The profile says it feeds the cow-calf and background herds; it is separate from the Allis-Chalmers fleet.
Which tractors are in the collection?
The profile describes the collection as about 30 or more tractors and names a D15 as its oldest. Alongside the models listed above, the article mentions the 7010, 7050, 7580, 8550, and 4W-305. It does not give model years or serial numbers, nor does it claim to list every tractor.

The family’s interest reaches back to their father’s equipment. Geoff Postin said, as quoted by Gaines, “It all kind of started with our dad, who farmed with an Allis-Chalmers D19 and One-Ninety XT that he bought new,”
What keeps the older tractors working?
Travis, who runs a tractor repair business, handles most of the repairs. The brothers describe the machines as mechanically sound and field-used. When a tractor has been idle for a while, they may move another tractor off an implement and put the idle one to work to keep it operating. Some have been professionally repainted; the brothers do not do that painting themselves.

Parts access is one practical obstacle. Gaines reports that some components can be difficult to find because the tractors are too new for reproduction parts while AGCO no longer stocks some items needed for them. The profile’s example is the lower bearing and bushing in a 7580 articulation joint: a bearing specialist researched the application and found a virtually identical match.
That account is a sourcing example, not a confirmed replacement specification. The article does not name the supplier or provide a part number, dimensions, price, or current listing, so it cannot establish that a particular bearing will fit another 7580. Geoff’s advice was to “be willing to do some digging and keep a list of resources if you’re going to restore some of these models.”

The Postins’ approach is to keep machines suited to different tasks available. Geoff described the goal this way: “We have at least one or more tractors that fit every situation and are ready to go to the field.” He also said, “If something does break down, we can fix it ourselves.” Those comments explain how the family views its fleet; they are not independent measures of uptime or repair cost.
The profile states that Allis-Chalmers ceased operations in 1985. It gives no broader assessment of the company’s history or the present availability of parts. For the Postins, the story is specific: a sizeable collection remains part of the farm’s working equipment, and keeping it that way involves both in-house repair and patient parts hunting.
