There is no single fair answer to which car is faster or cheaper to own without fixing the model year and country. The Giulia Quadrifoglio in the cited current-market listings is a rear-wheel-drive V6; the current Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE is a plug-in hybrid with a four-cylinder engine, rear-axle electric motor and all-wheel drive. The older V8 C 63 S is a different comparison.
First, identify which C 63 you mean
“Mercedes-AMG C 63” covers materially different drivetrains. The current C 63 S E PERFORMANCE described on Mercedes-AMG’s German-market product page pairs a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric motor on the rear axle and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. The C 63 S in Auto Express’s 2017 comparison was a rear-wheel-drive 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. Its road-test figures and character cannot be treated as results for the current hybrid.

The cited Alfa Romeo market pages describe a 2.9-litre V6 Giulia Quadrifoglio with rear-wheel drive. They list output as 520 HP in the United States and 520 CV in Italy. HP and CV are different unit labels, and the figures belong to their respective market specifications.
Current specifications: what the published figures show
| Measure | Giulia Quadrifoglio | Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE |
|---|---|---|
| Powertrain | 2.9-litre V6 petrol; 520 HP on Alfa Romeo USA’s page and 520 CV on its Italian page | 2.0-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid with an electric motor on the rear axle, according to Mercedes-AMG’s German product page |
| Driven wheels | Rear-wheel drive, according to Alfa Romeo USA’s page | 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, according to Mercedes-AMG’s German product page |
| Published output and torque | 520 HP or CV, depending on the cited market page; matching system-torque figure not stated on those pages | 500 kW system output and 1,020 Nm system torque, according to Mercedes-AMG’s German product page; Mercedes identifies the torque as a calculated virtual comparison value |
| Published acceleration | A matching 0–100 km/h figure is not stated on the cited Alfa pages | 0–100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, according to Mercedes-AMG’s German product page |
| Fuel or energy figures | Italy page: WLTP combined consumption of 10.1 l/100 km and CO₂ emissions of 228–229 g/km | German-market consumption and emissions figures are listed on Mercedes-AMG’s product page; they use that market’s stated basis and are not directly comparable with figures from another jurisdiction or cycle |
The Alfa’s Italian WLTP figures are homologation data, not a promise of real-world consumption. Likewise, Mercedes’ German-market energy and emissions figures should be read in their local testing and reporting context. Neither set establishes which car will cost less to fuel or charge in a particular owner’s use.

- 90 high-quality elements
- Assembled 1:35 Scale model dimensions (length x width x height): 13cm x 6.5cm x 4cm [5.1" x 2.6" x 1.6"]
- Manufactured in the EU by a company with over 20 years of tradition
- Clear and intuitive instructions based on drawings and icons
- Fully compatible with other brands of construction blocks
These specifications do not make a matched acceleration test: the Alfa figures cited here do not include a corresponding acceleration time, while Mercedes’ 3.4-second figure is a manufacturer claim for the hybrid C 63. They also do not establish a universal handling or traction winner. Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive describe different layouts, not an outcome under every road, weather or driver condition.
Which is faster? Separate the current models from the 2017 test
The available current-market figures do not support a direct timed verdict. Mercedes publishes a 0–100 km/h time for the current hybrid C 63; the cited Alfa pages do not give a matching time. A result from a test of an older V8 C 63 cannot fill that gap.

What Auto Express measured in 2017
Auto Express’s 2017 head-to-head compared an earlier Giulia Quadrifoglio with a rear-wheel-drive C 63 S V8. Its table listed both cars at 503 bhp. The publication recorded 0–60 mph in 5.3 seconds for the Alfa and 4.9 seconds for the Mercedes, and test economy of 19.0 mpg and 19.8 mpg respectively. Those are period publication figures for the versions and conditions it covered, not current-model specifications or a forecast of present-day fuel use.
The same test recorded the Alfa’s fourth-gear 30–50 mph time as 2.5 seconds and said the Alfa had the advantage in that in-gear test. That does not reverse the standing-start result: it shows how a measured comparison can change with gear and test condition.

How the cars felt in that historical test
Auto Express praised the 2017 Alfa’s engagement and in-gear response, while criticizing its launch traction and describing its exhaust note as muted. The testers praised the V8 C 63 S’s soundtrack and composure, while noting a firm ride. These are attributed impressions of those tested cars, not objective guarantees about every road or a description of the current hybrid C 63.
In a September 20, 2024 article, Top Gear’s Ollie Kew described the refreshed Giulia as gaining 10 bhp and using a mechanical rear differential instead of an electronically controlled one, and gave its output as 513 bhp. That dated editorial description differs from the 520 HP/CV ratings on Alfa Romeo’s cited current-market pages; keep the source, date and unit label attached rather than treating them as interchangeable ratings.

Which is cheaper to own?
The available information does not establish a total-cost winner. There are no comparable figures here for scheduled servicing, repair rates, insurance, depreciation, real-world reliability or lifetime repair costs for the exact versions being compared. A warranty term or a brand’s reputation is not evidence of lower running costs.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWarranty and coverage vary by country
- United States Mercedes coverage: Mercedes-Benz USA’s 2026 C 63 page describes a standard new-vehicle limited warranty of 48 months or 50,000 miles and provides information about prepaid maintenance. These are US-specific terms; check the applicable plan and contract for the car being considered.
- Specified Mercedes component coverage: Mercedes-Benz USA’s 2025 warranty booklet lists some components for 8 years or 80,000 miles in specified states. The booklet controls which components, vehicles and states qualify. This should not be generalized into an eight-year warranty for the entire hybrid system.
- Italy Alfa coverage: Alfa Romeo Italy advertises Extended Care Premium support and describes assistance or repair terms for mechanical, electrical and electronic breakdowns. The Italian offer does not establish the same coverage elsewhere or a directly equivalent Mercedes term. Check current local eligibility, exclusions and contract wording.
These offers are not a like-for-like comparison: they are from different countries and describe different coverage products. Compare the written terms available where the car will be registered, including duration, mileage limits, covered parts, exclusions and whether the offer applies to a new or used vehicle.

Availability and prices are local and time-sensitive
Alfa Romeo USA’s page says the Quadrifoglio is no longer available to order through that page. Alfa Romeo Italy lists a €103,700 price, which is a local, time-sensitive listing rather than a global price. An Australian carsales comparison listing also shows different local model years and prices. None of these establishes what either car costs in another market or what a specific dealer will charge.
How to make a useful buying comparison
- Pin down the exact cars: record country, model year, body style, trim, drivetrain and whether each vehicle is new or used. Confirm whether the Mercedes is the current C 63 S E PERFORMANCE or an earlier V8 C 63 S.
- Compare matched performance evidence: if acceleration, braking or circuit pace matters, use a current standardized test of the exact versions. Do not combine manufacturer figures from one car with a historical publication test of another and call it a head-to-head result.
- Drive both in relevant conditions: evaluate the roads, weather, traffic and driving style you expect to encounter. The drivetrain layouts differ, and published specifications alone do not decide which one suits you.
- Get written local ownership terms: ask for the applicable warranty, maintenance-plan schedule, coverage exclusions and service costs for the exact vehicle and registration market.
- Price the costs not established here: obtain insurance quotes and local prices for tires, brakes and routine service. For a used example, arrange an independent inspection; the available information does not establish model-specific known-fault lists or repair-cost estimates.
Verdict
Choose between the cars by drivetrain and the exact version, not by treating every C 63 as the same rival. The cited Quadrifoglio is a rear-drive V6, while the current C 63 S E PERFORMANCE is a four-cylinder plug-in hybrid with rear-axle electric drive and all-wheel drive; the 2017 V8 comparison remains useful only as historical road-test context. The available evidence does not prove a universal current performance winner or a lower total ownership cost. Local availability, matched testing and written ownership terms are necessary to decide for a specific purchase.
