The AGTZ Twin Tail is a limited-run, coachbuilt grand tourer created by La Squadra and Zagato as a tribute to Alpine’s A220 endurance racer. It is based on the modern Alpine A110—not the original A220—and its defining feature is a removable rear body section that lets the car switch between longtail and shorttail shapes.
What is the AGTZ Twin Tail?
It is a bespoke reinterpretation of the Alpine A110, designed and built through a collaboration between La Squadra and Italian coachbuilder Zagato. Its name describes its two rear-end configurations: a longtail with an extended rear deck, and a shorttail with that section removed. The project announced a production cap of 19 cars.
The A220 is the design inspiration; the A110 is the underlying platform. The AGTZ is therefore neither an original A220 nor a car built on the A220’s chassis. That distinction matters: this is a modern road car using the visual story of a historic racer, not a continuation or recreation of the race car.
How does the removable tail work?
The rear body section can be detached to expose the shorttail form, then refitted to restore the longer silhouette. The project describes a custom trolley to assist with the changeover and display the removed section, which it presents as an object of automotive sculpture. Its official homepage says the conversion takes a few minutes and that tools are included.

- DETAILED SUSPENSION & EXHAUST: The kit incorporates separate rear suspension and exhaust detailing, adding to the realism of the model.
- BUCKET SEATS & CONSOLE: The model's interior features bucket seats and a floor shifter with a console, capturing the iconic look and feel of the GTO.

- CLEAR & COMPREHENSIVE INSTRUCTIONS: The included instructions are clear and user-friendly, making the kit accessible to modelers of different skill levels, from beginners to experienced hobbyists.
The longtail is not presented merely as a styling accessory: the launch-era project page says the extended deck is intended to reduce drag compared with the donor car and improve high-speed stability. Those are the makers’ claims, not independently verified aerodynamic test results.
Why is it a tribute to the Alpine A220?
Zagato and La Squadra frame the AGTZ around the A220’s evolution from a longtail endurance racer to a shorter-tailed form. In the project’s account, the A220’s extended body was aimed at the high-speed demands of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and its tail was later shortened by about 30 cm to suit shorter circuits and rally stages. The AGTZ turns that two-form history into a feature owners can reproduce on a modern road car.

Those historical details are the project’s telling of the A220 story; the available material does not independently establish a full account of the racer’s competition history. Zagato president Andrea Michele Zagato described the A220 as the project’s “perfect muse,” a statement of design intent rather than an independent assessment.
What are the AGTZ Twin Tail’s dimensions and performance claims?

At its 2024 launch, La Squadra and Zagato announced a starting price of €650,000 excluding taxes. That is a dated launch-era price, not a verified current quotation. The reviewed official pages do not establish today’s price, remaining allocation or whether orders are still open.
The same launch-era page described a 1,000-hour build process and roughly 15 weeks at Zagato’s headquarters per car. It listed 19 colour choices, nine liveries, paint-to-sample, optional carbon wheels and panels, a Supersprint exhaust, and possible engine, suspension and braking upgrades. These are launch details; the available sources do not confirm that every option or specification remains available.

What is the production and delivery status?
The project announced a limit of 19 examples. Its official homepage now says the first production cars are being delivered to their final owners. An official update says the first client car was shown in road-legal production guise at Rétromobile in Paris in February 2025. The pages do not give a complete delivery count, so the number of cars delivered or still available cannot be stated from these updates.
For a vehicle this bespoke, the practical distinction is between the announced production cap and current availability: the former was published by the makers, while the latter is not established by the cited project updates.
