Affordable Used V6 Cars: Two Evidence-Backed Candidates to Check

A careful U.S. used-car shortlist starts with two evidence-backed V6 candidates: the 2013–2017 Honda Accord and 2014–2019 Toyota Highlander. Neither model reputation nor general price averages guarantee a good individual car.

The available evidence supports two used V6 model-year candidates—not a reliable, evidence-backed list of ten. In the U.S. market, the 2013–2017 Honda Accord and 2014–2019 Toyota Highlander are worth investigating, but neither model’s reputation guarantees that a particular used car is dependable or affordable. The key is to verify the engine and trim, price the individual vehicle, and inspect its history and condition.

Which used V6 cars can the available evidence support?

Edmunds’ used-car guide, syndicated by the Associated Press, identifies these model-year ranges and confirms that a V6 was available. Its descriptions make them useful starting points, but they do not establish V6-specific reliability, repair costs, or a dependable ranking.

Candidate V6 availability and what the guide says What the evidence does not establish
2013–2017 Honda Accord sedan or coupe Available with a V6 as well as a four-cylinder. The guide describes a roomy interior, responsive handling, and a choice of transmissions. It does not show that the V6 is more reliable than the four-cylinder, identify the best V6 trim, or establish a V6-specific used price.
2014–2019 Toyota Highlander Offered with four-cylinder, V6, and hybrid powertrains. The guide says the V6 provides satisfying acceleration; all-wheel drive is available across engine and trim choices. It does not establish an affordability threshold or compare repair risk among specific V6 trims.

These are candidates to investigate, not blanket recommendations. A well-maintained example may be a better buy than a newer or more highly rated vehicle with poor maintenance records or undisclosed damage.

Do the reported used prices prove a V6 is affordable?

No. iSeeCars’ 2026 under-$15,000 midsize-car analysis reports an average used price of $14,348 and a reliability score of 7.6/10 for the 2016 Toyota Camry. It reports $14,985 and 7.5/10 for the 2016 Honda Accord. The surfaced results do not distinguish engine trims, so neither price nor score can be assigned specifically to a V6 Accord—or used to claim what a V6 Camry costs.

Those are iSeeCars model-level results, not a quote for a particular car or a government rating of engine failure risk. Treat them as broad price context only. For an actual listing, compare the asking price with examples of the same year, engine, trim, mileage, condition, and local market.

How to check whether an individual car is a sound buy

  1. Confirm the exact engine and trim. A model name and year alone do not tell you whether the vehicle has a V6. Verify the specific listing and vehicle documentation before comparing prices or features.
  2. Review the vehicle history and inspect the car. Edmunds recommends obtaining a vehicle history report and closely inspecting any used vehicle. Check maintenance documentation, accident and title history, mileage, and the car’s present condition; a model’s general reputation cannot replace this step.
  3. Check for open safety recalls by VIN. Use NHTSA’s recall lookup, then contact a local automaker dealer about any open recall. NHTSA says recall repairs are free. Its October 19, 2020 consumer alert states: “If your vehicle does have a recall, call your automaker’s local dealer to schedule the free repair.” A recall lookup is separate from a paid vehicle-history report.
  4. Compare actual examples, not just model averages. Consider asking price, mileage, maintenance records, history, condition, transmission, engine and trim, and local availability together. The reported averages above are not V6-specific valuations.

What “won’t let you down” should mean when buying used

No model can guarantee trouble-free ownership, and the available information does not justify ranking ten V6 cars by reliability. It identifies two reasonable model-year ranges to research further, while leaving V6-specific reliability and repair-cost comparisons unresolved. Make the decision on the individual car’s verified configuration, records, condition, recall status, and price—not on a general model score alone.
