For a new U.S. rider shopping on a budget, the strongest current, source-supported choices here are the Honda CB300R, Honda Rebel 300 E-Clutch, Kawasaki Eliminator and KTM 390 Duke, with Kawasaki Ninja models and the Honda Rebel 500 as alternatives to investigate. The available manufacturer listings verify seven candidates—not ten—with current or surfaced prices, so this guide avoids filling the gap with stale or unverified recommendations. Prices are manufacturer figures, not dealer out-the-door quotes.

What makes a motorcycle a reasonable first-bike candidate?

There is no one best beginner motorcycle. A workable choice depends on whether you can comfortably reach the controls, balance and maneuver the bike, and operate its clutch and brakes. Compare the riding position and intended use as well as engine size: a cruiser, an upright naked standard and a sport-style bike feel different, and a larger engine or higher price does not by itself make a bike more suitable for a novice.

Seat height is one useful starting point, but it is not a complete fit test. Seat width, handlebar reach, control placement and weight also matter. Sit on the exact trim you are considering and, if possible, arrange a supervised test ride before buying.

Affordable motorcycle candidates with U.S. price information

These manufacturer-listed prices are tied to specific model years where the listing supports one. Destination or freight is included only where the source provides it. Dealer setup, taxes, title, registration and other charges can raise the final amount.

Kawasaki model listing Sportbike styling and posture differ from an upright standard or cruiser. Confirm the exact bike’s ABS equipment and dealer quote.
Kawasaki Ninja 500 Sport-style motorcycle $5,399 starting MSRP surfaced in Kawasaki’s U.S. lineup; base MSRP excludes destination, taxes, title/license and dealer charges. Verify exact model year and trim. Kawasaki model listing A larger-displacement sport-style option; price alone does not establish whether it fits a particular new rider.
2026 KTM 390 Duke Naked standard $5,499 base MSRP plus $600 freight. KTM 2026 listing KTM describes lightweight handling and rider aids. Check fit, nearby dealer support and ownership costs.

How to compare the real purchase cost

Do not compare a price that includes destination with another model’s base MSRP as if they were equivalent. For a quote on the exact trim, ask the dealer to itemize destination or freight, setup, taxes, title and registration, and every dealer fee. The CB300R listing, for example, gives a $5,099 figure after destination, but that is still before taxes and other charges. The Eliminator’s published base prices exclude destination as well as several other costs.

Get an insurance quote using the model and trim you intend to buy. Also ask about scheduled maintenance, parts availability and service access near you; the listed MSRPs do not establish ongoing ownership costs.

125CC NINJA VENOM X22 MOTORCYCLE 4-SPEED, 4-STROKE, FULL-SIZE 17" WHEELS BEGINNER BIKE, TWO SEATER WITH MCO TITLE & BILL OF SALE MATTE BLACK
  • Dimensions Assembled 80 x 31 x 46 inches (L x W x H)
  • Front Tire 110/70-17
  • Rear Tire 140/70-17
  • 4 Gallons Fuel Capacity
  • 125cc | 4-Stroke | 4-Speed Manual Transmission

Choose based on fit, braking and riding position

Start with the riding position you want

The Rebels and Eliminator are cruisers; the CB300R and 390 Duke are naked standards; the Ninja models are sport-style bikes. A sport-style posture may feel less natural to someone who prefers an upright position, while a cruiser’s low seat does not automatically mean that every rider will find its reach or handling comfortable. Sit on the exact model and move it under control before deciding.

Compare ABS trim by trim

The CB300R has standard ABS, Honda says ABS is standard on every 2026 Rebel 500, and the Eliminator is sold in non-ABS and ABS versions at different listed prices. Do not assume that every model or trim in the table includes ABS; verify the specific motorcycle’s equipment and price with the dealer. ABS is a feature to weigh, not a guarantee against crashes.

Prepare for riding and verify local requirements

Honda’s CB300R brochure advises wearing a helmet, eye protection and protective clothing, and warns against riding after drugs or alcohol or using public streets as a racetrack. Suzuki’s 2025 GSX250R ABS brochure recommends taking an MSF skills course and also advises protective gear. These are manufacturer safety recommendations; check the licensing, training and equipment rules that apply where you live.

The Suzuki GSX250R ABS appears in that 2025 brochure, but a current U.S. model-year price was not established here. Treat it as a possible used-bike or dealer inquiry, not a verified 2026-priced new-bike recommendation.

HHH Upgraded GTX 250 Motorcycle EFI Fuel Injection Manual 6 Speed 250cc Motorcycle Street Bike for adult (Black)
  • HHH GTX 250 is an EFI equipped, 4 stroke 250cc air cooled street motorcycle with an upgraded Zonshen Engine and manual 6 speed transmission.
  • Changes in altitude can affect any engine’s performance and in higher altitudes there is less oxygen. • Not only are there no carburetor maintenance or replacement costs, there is also less servicing needed in general. The fuel system, for example, is entirely sealed so the gasoline does not encounter oxygen, which causes it to go bad.
  • HHH GTX 250 sport bike motorcycle has the power to be a long trip touring bike or a city commuter. The bike radiates modern and sport styling ride for adults.
  • A high-power engine has to be supported by brakes with the stopping force to match, and the GTX 250 EFI has super responsive hydraulic disc brakes in the front and rear.
