There is no defensible ten-bike ranking in the manufacturer information available here. It documents advanced suspension on three named motorcycles and describes BMW systems without identifying a complete current model list. Those examples are still useful: they show how electronic suspension ranges from damping that adapts while riding to rider-adjustable settings and automatic ride-height changes.
“Most advanced” is not a standardized measure. The systems below are compared by their disclosed sensors, automatic adjustments and rider controls—not ranked as winners. Equipment can vary by model year, trim and market, so check the specification for the exact motorcycle you are considering.
What makes motorcycle suspension “advanced”?
Electronic suspension is an umbrella term, not a single feature. A system may let a rider choose among preset damping modes, adjust damping automatically while the motorcycle is moving, or add functions such as preload adjustment and automatic lowering. These capabilities are not interchangeable: a broader menu of settings does not, by itself, establish better performance.
A meaningful comparison asks what the system senses, which suspension settings it changes, whether those changes happen automatically, and what the rider can adjust. Intended use matters too: touring, mixed-surface riding and track riding place different demands on suspension.

| BMW Motorrad — Dynamic ESA and DDC | BMW describes travel sensors and electronically controlled damping adjustments. The Dynamic ESA page also describes communication with ABS and Automatic Stability Control; BMW says DDC adjusts damping through electrically controlled valves in milliseconds. | The technical descriptions do not establish a complete current list of equipped models or a comparable set of rider controls. |
The table reflects manufacturer descriptions, not independent comparative testing. In particular, BMW’s technical pages explain system operation but do not identify a complete current model list; they cannot be used to add an unverified BMW motorcycle to a ten-bike ranking.
How each system approaches changing conditions
Ducati: anticipating a bump and responding to load
Ducati’s description of Skyhook Suspension Evolution highlights the relationship between the fork and rear shock. A fork-mounted sensor detects information as the front wheel crosses an obstacle. Ducati says Bump Detection uses that information to prepare the rear mono-shock’s response. The system also uses anti-dive and anti-squat strategies, and adapts to road conditions and vehicle load.

- The top hole has 3 sizes available 10mm, 12mm and 14mm, normally we will send 12mm, due to mostly 12mm is fit most motorcycle. Length of the shock absorber can be compatible for within 10mm more than its own length, such as 320mm fits for motorcycle between 320mm and 330mm.
The lowering device is a separate practical feature: it reduces rear preload to lower the motorcycle at low speeds, then returns preload to a preset value above 20 km/h. Ducati says the rider can disable it. The source description does not specify a model year or market, so verify that the function is fitted to the particular Multistrada V4 S in question.
Honda Showa EERA: selectable modes and customization
On the CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES, Honda says Showa Electrically Equipped Ride Adjustment (EERA) changes damping in response to suspension stroke speed and running conditions. Riders can select HARD, MID, SOFT or OFFROAD, or use USER to customize damping and preload. That combination offers both preset choices and a way to tailor the setup; the available description does not establish an independent performance comparison against the other systems here.

Honda engineer Kenji Morita, identified as a Product R&D engineer at the Honda Motorcycle Operations Monozukuri Center, described the goal as taking the Africa Twin’s “anywhere and everywhere” concept “to the next level.” He also said, “After all, you can change the damping force whenever you want, however you want.” Those are manufacturer interview comments, not independent evaluations.
Honda Öhlins Smart EC: tuning around track phases
Honda’s technology interview describes the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP’s Öhlins Smart EC control unit as evaluating motorcycle data and adjusting front and rear damping. Its OBTi interface organizes rider adjustments around deceleration, turning and acceleration, making the tuning approach explicitly oriented to different phases of riding.

Honda’s 2024 European lineup announcement identified third-generation Öhlins Smart Electronic suspension on the Fireblade SP for that model-year lineup. That is historical, Europe-specific evidence; it does not establish the equipment on every market’s 2026 motorcycle or a later model year. Confirm the local specification before treating it as standard equipment.
BMW: two technical descriptions, not a verified bike list
BMW says Dynamic ESA uses a travel sensor at each end to observe vertical movement and adjusts front and rear damping with electrically controlled valves according to riding conditions and maneuvers. BMW also describes communication between Dynamic ESA, ABS and Automatic Stability Control. Its separate DDC engineering description says electrically controlled valves adjust damping in milliseconds in response to riding maneuvers and road surface.

These descriptions explain functions, but do not establish which current BMW models carry each system, whether it is standard or optional, or how the systems compare under controlled testing. Match a system name to the exact model-year and market specification rather than assuming availability across the range.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which kind of system suits which kind of riding?
- Touring and changing loads: Look for documented adaptation to vehicle load and road conditions, as Ducati describes for the Multistrada V4 S. Confirm which functions are present on the exact trim.
- Mixed road and off-road use: The Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES’s named OFFROAD mode and USER damping/preload customization are relevant controls to examine. Their presence does not guarantee a particular result on every surface.
- Track-focused tuning: The Fireblade SP’s OBTi interface is organized around deceleration, turning and acceleration, allowing riders to adjust characteristics by riding phase.
- Integration with vehicle controls: BMW describes Dynamic ESA communication with ABS and Automatic Stability Control. The information here does not establish model availability or quantify the benefit of that integration.
How to compare two motorcycles before buying
- Confirm the exact specification. Check the manufacturer’s local page or the dealer’s written specification for the model year, trim and market. Establish whether electronic suspension is standard, optional or unavailable on that motorcycle.
- Identify the adjustment types. Separate rider-selected modes from damping that changes automatically while riding. Check separately for preload adjustment or ride-height functions.
- Check what the system senses. Manufacturer descriptions may identify inputs such as suspension movement, road conditions, load or motorcycle data. Do not assume systems use the same sensors because both are called semi-active or electronic.
- Match controls to your use. Compare the actual modes and customization available, then consider whether the documented functions address your riding—such as selectable off-road damping or track-phase tuning.
- Keep claims in proportion to evidence. Manufacturer descriptions establish intended operation, not which setup is best in a controlled test or for a particular rider. No independent comparative results are established for the examples discussed here.
Why this is not a ten-motorcycle ranking
The title’s number cannot be supported without inventing entries or treating system descriptions as proof of specific bike fitment. The manufacturer information discussed here identifies the Multistrada V4 S, Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES and Fireblade SP, while BMW’s technical descriptions do not supply a complete current list of equipped motorcycles. Nor does it establish consistent model-year, market and standard-versus-optional details across ten candidates.
So the useful conclusion is a comparison of documented capabilities, not a universal winner or a fabricated top ten. A genuinely comparable ten-bike list would need official, model-specific specifications for each motorcycle, including region, model year, trim and equipment status.
