The Acura NSX is two very different sports cars under one name: an original mid-engine, naturally aspirated V6 model and a later hybrid supercar with all-wheel drive. The original’s U.S. launch-era engine made 270 hp; the 2022 NSX Type S had a manufacturer-listed MSRP of $169,500 before destination and options. Used prices depend heavily on generation and how a price is measured: a recent guide estimate is not the same thing as a completed auction sale.

Two generations, two different approaches

First generation: a naturally aspirated V6

Acura’s original NSX paired a mid-mounted 3.0-liter DOHC V6 with a five-speed manual transmission. Acura lists output at 270 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque, with a 0–60 mph time of under six seconds. Its official history identifies the mid-engine layout and aluminum construction as central to the car’s design. Acura’s NSX history documents those specifications.

For 1997, Acura recorded a larger 3.2-liter V6, a six-speed manual, and output of 290 hp and 224 lb-ft. The NSX-T, with a removable roof panel, arrived in 1995; Acura refreshed the exterior in 2002. The company announced in July 2005 that production would end at year’s end. Acura’s history covers these changes.

Second generation: hybrid power and SH-AWD

The later NSX replaced the original’s straightforward engine-and-manual formula with a mid-mounted V6, electrification, and Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). Acura described its design aim as a “human-centered supercar,” emphasizing driver connection and everyday usability. That is the manufacturer’s stated engineering intent, not an independent road-test conclusion. Acura’s technical introduction explains the concept.

Acura NSX specifications and model-year context

The figures below are manufacturer-published specifications and prices for the stated U.S. model years. MSRP excludes destination and options unless the table says otherwise; EPA fuel economy is an estimate.

Model and source Powertrain / output Transmission or drive Price and other figures
Original NSX, 3.0-liter era; Acura history 3.0-liter DOHC V6; 270 hp, 210 lb-ft Five-speed manual; mid-engine Acura lists 0–60 mph in under six seconds
1997 original NSX update; Acura history 3.2-liter V6; 290 hp, 224 lb-ft Six-speed manual Price not stated by the cited history
2018 NSX; Acura model-year release Hybrid V6; specific output not stated in the cited price-and-efficiency table Sport Hybrid SH-AWD $156,000 MSRP before destination; $157,800 including $1,800 destination; EPA-estimated 21 mpg city / 22 highway / 21 combined
2022 NSX Type S; Acura release Hybrid V6; 573 hp as described in the auction listing cited below Sport Hybrid SH-AWD $169,500 MSRP before destination; $171,495 including $1,995 destination; EPA-estimated 21/22/21 mpg city/highway/combined

Acura’s 2015 announcement set the 2017 NSX’s U.S. starting MSRP at $156,000 and said a fully optioned example could reach $205,700. Those are historical new-car prices, not present-day used values. Acura’s announcement provides the figures.

2022 Type S options

The 2022 Type S price did not include every available upgrade. Acura listed a $13,000 lightweight package and carbon-ceramic brake options; neither should be assumed to be standard equipment. Its 21/22/21 mpg city/highway/combined figures were EPA estimates. Acura’s 2022 release gives the pricing and equipment details.

How much does a used Acura NSX cost?

There is no single useful “NSX price” without specifying generation, model year, condition, mileage, options, provenance, and location—and whether the number is a guide estimate, an asking price, or a completed sale. These measures describe different things.

Price measure Vehicle and date Reported figure How to interpret it
Kelley Blue Book guide figures 2022 NSX Type S; stated valid through September 23, 2026 $215,000 private-party estimate; $225,000 fair purchase price Recently published guide figures with a validity date that has passed; not a guaranteed current quote
Completed auction result recorded by Hagerty 2022 NSX Type S sold via Bring a Trailer on March 2, 2026 $278,200 One realized sale, not a market average or dealer asking price; the listing described a 573-hp twin-turbo six-cylinder car

For a current purchase decision, compare vehicles with similar year, condition, mileage, specification, and provenance, then check live listings and recent completed sales separately. The figures above do not establish a current price range for first-generation NSXs, and the Type S sale cannot be used as a proxy for earlier cars.

Photos: what to compare

Photos are most useful when they make the generational shift clear rather than presenting the NSX as one unchanged design. A visual gallery can help readers distinguish the original exterior and cockpit from the second-generation car’s exterior and hybrid-powertrain context, then examine the 2022 Type S details. Cars.com has model-year galleries for 2018–2022, but image rights must be checked independently before republication. Cars.com’s NSX gallery is a reference for model-year photos.

What this review can—and cannot—establish

Acura’s published material supports a comparison of the generations’ layouts, headline specifications, and stated design goals. It does not establish independent acceleration, braking, lap-time, ride, or handling results, so those should not be inferred from the manufacturer’s design description or the prices cited here.
