About 24,000 batteries supplied with certain VIVI e-bikes were recalled after reports of overheating and fires. If your bike and battery identifiers match the list below, stop using the e-bike and contact VIVI for a free replacement battery and charger. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on July 17, 2025; it is separate from the agency’s later proposal for a micromobility battery safety standard.
How to tell whether your VIVI battery is recalled
The recall covers specific combinations of e-bike and battery models. The brand name alone is not enough to establish whether a bike is included: compare both identifiers with the CPSC list, then confirm through the official recall notice.
- The VIVI brand name appears on the bicycle’s downtube.
- Find the bike model on sales records or, on some bikes, the frame.
- Find the battery model identifier on the battery itself.

What to do if your identifiers match
- Stop using the affected e-bike. The CPSC says the recalled battery can overheat, creating fire and burn hazards.
- Request the free remedy from VIVI. Call 800-375-6103; the recall page lists hours as 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern. You can also use the recall contact path in the CPSC notice. The remedy is a replacement battery and charger.
- Arrange safe disposal of the recalled battery. Do not put it in household trash, curbside recycling, or a common battery collection box at a retailer or home-improvement store. Call your local household hazardous waste center before transporting it and ask whether it accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries. If it does not, ask your municipality for handling instructions.
- Confirm disposal with VIVI. The recall notice instructs consumers to email confirmation to [email protected]. This confirmation does not replace arranging safe disposal through the appropriate local channel.
What happened, and what the incident count means
The CPSC’s July 17, 2025 notice covers about 24,000 36-volt lithium-ion batteries included with certain VIVI e-bikes. VIVI reported 14 overheating incidents, including three fires; the notice reported no injuries. Those are incident reports provided by the company and summarized by the CPSC, not a failure rate or a prediction of an individual owner’s risk.

The notice identifies the recalled component as the battery. It says the battery can overheat and cause fire and burn hazards, but does not specify the defect mechanism; it does not establish that every part of the bicycle is defective.
Affected bikes were sold online at Amazon, Walmart, eBay, VIVI’s website, Wish, Sears, Wayfair, and AliExpress from December 2020 through November 2023 for $365 to $950, according to the CPSC. The notice identifies Guangzhou Plenty Bicycle Co., Ltd. as manufacturer and Shenzhen Binxin Household Co., Ltd., doing business as VIVI E-bikes, as distributor. The CPSC page also states generally that federal law prohibits sale of products subject to a Commission-ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the Commission.

Is a federal micromobility battery standard already in force?
No—not on the status described in the latest cited agency statement. On June 22, 2026, Acting CPSC Chairman Peter A. Feldman said the Commission had approved publication for public comment of a proposed mandatory safety standard for lithium-ion batteries used in micromobility products. He said the agency looked forward to public comment as it worked toward finalization. That describes a proposal, not a final standard, and the VIVI recall notice does not say the recall resulted from a new rule. For the statement, see the CPSC chairman’s June 22, 2026 statement.
