After a week in a 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV RS AWD, Ars Technica reviewer Michael Frank came away with a clear split verdict: the electric SUV was comfortable and family-friendly, but its infotainment made the loss of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto difficult to accept. The native software worked during his test, yet everyday audio tasks could feel needlessly complicated.
What the week-long Blazer EV review found
Michael Frank’s May 22, 2024 review focused on a 2024 Blazer EV RS AWD. Its praise and criticism concern that specific test vehicle, not every model year or trim. Frank’s central judgment was that “Driving isn’t the issue—the tech is”. Read the Ars Technica review.
Is the Blazer EV comfortable for a family?
Frank found the front and rear seats surprisingly comfortable, including on long drives, and described the vehicle as a family car rather than a sporty corner-carver. The review lists 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 59.1 cubic feet with them folded.
There are trade-offs in its road manners. The 21-inch wheels contributed to steering that felt dead to the reviewer, while the vehicle’s weight made tight-corner transitions feel sluggish. A panoramic sunroof can also reduce rear headroom; the reviewed RS AWD did not have one.

Why was the infotainment so frustrating?
The complaint was not that the system failed throughout the test. Frank says the native software worked as promised during his week with the vehicle. The problem was that routine tasks did not feel as straightforward as they should, especially after Chevrolet omitted Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In the review, finding audio sources meant navigating through the home/apps interface rather than the musical-note icon. Listening to content already on a phone could involve workarounds, downloading apps, signing in, and caching content. Some apps and voice controls also behaved inconsistently. Frank’s conclusion was blunt: “The decision to drop Apple CarPlay was a mistake.”

A real bright spot: Google Maps
Google Maps integration was a stronger part of the experience. It could show estimated remaining battery and range, including projected range after returning home, and identify nearby charging options with charging-speed information. That useful EV-specific context did not, in Frank’s view, make up for the friction of the broader interface.
Range and charging figures depend on model year
The figures below are not interchangeable: the first row describes the 2024 vehicle reviewed by Ars, while the others are later manufacturer-published specifications or estimates. Official range figures are estimates, not independent real-world test results.

Can a Blazer EV use a Tesla Supercharger?
For 2025 models, Chevrolet’s cited guidance specifies an available GM-approved NACS DC adapter for Supercharger access. Confirm that the vehicle and adapter are compatible before buying an adapter or planning a charging stop. This 2025 guidance should not be assumed to describe the 2024 RS AWD in Frank’s review.

The reviewed 2024 RS AWD makes the strongest case for someone who values comfortable seating, passenger room, and useful cargo capacity more than lively cornering. The interface is a more consequential drawback for a driver who depends on familiar phone projection or frequently plays personal audio. Its Maps integration offers meaningful EV information, but Frank’s week-long experience suggests that useful navigation data and an easy overall infotainment experience are not the same thing.
