The Little Speed Shop advertises stock #080426, a 2013 BMW M5 with 65,000 miles, rear-wheel drive, a 4.4-liter S63 twin-turbo V8 and a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission. Its asking price is $35,999. The seller also lists navigation, a head-up display, four-zone climate control, heated and cooled front seats, and a surround-view camera. These are listing details, not independently verified condition or equipment claims. Check the listing directly for current availability and details.
One advertised car cannot establish a national average or what a buyer should expect to pay. Before treating the figure as a fair-value benchmark, compare current examples with similar model year, mileage, service and repair records, title history, condition, modifications and equipment. Ask the seller to confirm the VIN and whether the car is still for sale.
Why the F10 M5 is rear-wheel drive
The F10 is the fifth-generation M5. BMW says the generation appeared in 2011 and reached US showrooms in 2012. Its launch specification used a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at 560 hp and 500 lb-ft, paired with a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission that sent power to the rear wheels. Exact specifications can vary by year and market, so verify the particular car’s build and equipment. BMW’s F10 M5 launch release provides its historical US-market specifications.

F10 and F90 drivetrain are not interchangeable descriptions
The successor F90, identified by BMW as the sixth-generation M5, introduced M xDrive all-wheel drive. BMW says it starts in all-wheel-drive mode; a selectable rear-wheel-drive 2WD mode is available with DSC switched off and is intended for an experienced, highly skilled driver. That selectable mode does not make the F90 a rear-wheel-drive car in the same sense as the F10. BMW’s 2018 M5 announcement describes the F90 system.
What to check before buying an F10 M5
A powerful, complex used performance car deserves more than a quick test drive. - Request maintenance and repair records. Look for evidence of regular servicing and work addressing any known warning or drivability issues.
- Have the car scanned properly. Ask a qualified shop to scan the control modules and review stored or recurring faults rather than relying on dashboard lights alone.
- Ask about software updates. Confirm whether applicable engine and transmission software updates have been performed, and have the shop verify this where possible.
- Inspect for leaks and deferred maintenance. A specialist inspection can help identify problems a short drive or seller description will not reveal.
- Check tires and wheels against the actual car. Confirm wheel size and approved fitment, along with load and speed ratings. Tire sizes vary by configuration, and the guide notes rear tires may wear faster; do not choose replacements by model name alone.
- Use an independent BMW M specialist. An inspection by a shop independent of the seller is prudent for assessing condition, records and potential repair needs.
How to judge whether this example is right for you
Compare listings on more than price and mileage. Model year and LCI status matter—the F10 LCI was announced in May 2013 for 2014 model-year cars, according to the PistonHeads guide. Also weigh title and accident history, service documentation, transmission and market specification, modifications, options, tire and brake wear, and the seller’s willingness to support an independent inspection.
The $35,999 advertisement is a concrete example of an F10 M5 listed near the headline figure, not a promise that every buyer can find a comparable car at that price. The UK-market context in the PistonHeads guide is not directly comparable with a US dealer asking price, and neither source establishes a current cross-market valuation.
