The Corvette Stingray Homage is a digital concept by Maitreya Dhanak, described in 2025 reporting as a Mercedes-Benz visualization designer based in Mumbai. It is a personal design project—not a Chevrolet or Mercedes-Benz announcement, and not a production car. Its appeal is the way it blends classic Corvette cues with a modern grand-touring shape.
Who designed the Mercedes designer Corvette?
Dhanak created the Stingray Homage as a personal visualization project. Carscoops reported on April 27, 2025, that he worked as a Mercedes-Benz visualization designer in Mumbai. That description identifies his professional role; it does not mean Mercedes-Benz designed, commissioned, or endorsed the concept. Carscoops’ report presents the work as renderings rather than a vehicle announcement.
Is the Corvette Stingray Homage real?
No physical car or production program is established by the reporting. The Stingray Homage exists as digital renderings of Dhanak’s imagined design. A May 2025 roundup by Corvette Report likewise described the images as renderings from a side project and said Mercedes-Benz was not considering a split-window-inspired Sting Ray. Corvette Report’s roundup offers no basis to treat it as a forthcoming Corvette or Mercedes model.
What does the concept look like?
The renderings depict a two-seat grand tourer with a long hood and sculpted fenders. Low-mounted round LED headlights and turbine-style wheels give the car a contemporary finish, while the split rear window is the most direct visual nod to the 1963 C2 Corvette. Saddle-colored upholstery appears in the two-seat cabin, and side exhausts add to the concept’s dramatic, show-car character. These are details shown in the artwork, not confirmed specifications for a buildable car.

Classic Corvette references
The split rear glass points unmistakably to the split-window C2, while the curvier body surfacing evokes the later C3 or “Shark” era. The design does not simply reproduce either generation: it uses those references as ingredients in a modern GT-shaped interpretation.
Modern details
The round lamps, turbine-style wheels, and contemporary proportions keep the concept from reading as a straight vintage remake. The contrast between recognizable Corvette motifs and newer detailing is central to the rendering’s retro-modern effect.

What layout did the designer imagine?
Carscoops described the concept as a front-midship V8, rear-wheel-drive GT. That is an imagined configuration attached to the rendering, not an announced engine, drivetrain, or performance specification. No output, acceleration, dimensions, or production plans are established in the cited coverage, so the concept is best understood as a design exercise rather than a prospective C9 alternative.

The “Shark” reference has a real design-history backdrop. General Motors Heritage explains that the Mako Shark II was sent back to GM Design Studio for changes and became the 1969 Manta Ray. The official account also connects the Mako Shark II/Manta Ray Stingray styling to design leader William Mitchell’s interest in manta rays. GM Heritage’s Manta Ray history provides context for the styling lineage; it does not establish any connection between GM and Dhanak’s independent project.
