Its black-and-metallic-gray paint, red stripe, turbine-style wheels, roof spoiler and auxiliary lights made it instantly recognizable. The available production identification is secondary, however, and does not establish the exact build of the van seen on screen.
What kind of van did The A-Team drive?
The familiar screen vehicle is commonly reported as a 1983 GMC Vandura cargo van. A General Motors 1983 Chevrolet Van/Vandura vehicle information kit documents the model family, its ordering specifications and dimensions. It does not identify the production van’s specific configuration.
A vehicle image catalog also labels Vanduras as 1983 models in episodes, but its user-contributed entries and comments are not definitive production records. The identification is best treated as the commonly reported model, rather than a verified build-sheet description.
What did the van look like?
Descriptions of the recognizable A-Team van consistently point to a black and metallic-gray body with a red stripe extending from the hood area toward the rear spoiler. Other reported identifying details include black-and-red turbine-style wheels, a rooftop spoiler, and auxiliary lights on the grille and along the roof line. These are reported visual traits, not proof that every shot used an identical vehicle; examples are noted to vary, including in spoiler angle.

The 1983 model-year identification and the show’s 1983–1987 original run are described in a Vandura history reference. General Motors’ heritage archive index also lists the 1983 Chevrolet Vandura vehicle information kit, corroborating the factory document’s provenance.
What do the 1983 factory specifications tell us?
General Motors Corporation’s 1983 factory kit provides useful measurements for the Van/Vandura family, but those figures should not be assigned to the television van unless its configuration is independently confirmed. For example, the kit lists cargo volume of 246 cubic feet for the 110-inch-wheelbase model and 296 cubic feet for the 125-inch-wheelbase model. These are factory figures for the listed configurations, not a determination of the A-Team van’s wheelbase or cargo capacity.

Both values come from General Motors Corporation’s 1983 Chevrolet Van/Vandura information kit. They describe model-family configurations, not a confirmed specification for the screen vehicle.
Which details about the screen van remain unverified?
The available records do not establish the A-Team van’s exact engine, trim, wheelbase or drivetrain. They also do not establish how many vans production used or which individual vehicles handled hero shots and stunts. Episode-level vehicle listings and comments can suggest possibilities, but user-contributed observations are not enough to confirm those production details.

For a screen-used vehicle or replica comparison, check the model year and body configuration, wheelbase and series, exterior treatment, and whether there is documentation that the vehicle actually appeared in production. A van matching the familiar paint and accessories is not, by appearance alone, a verified screen-used example.
