BGR’s December 1, 2025 article identifies nine electric vehicles as among the least reliable based on Consumer Reports information, but the available article text confirms only six entries: the 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron, 2024 Cadillac Lyriq, 2025 Lucid Air, 2025 Cadillac Lyriq, 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV, and 2025 Rivian R1T. Because the remaining three names and the full order are not established by the available text, they should not be guessed or presented as verified. This is BGR’s selection—not an official Consumer Reports ranking.
Which electric vehicles does the article identify?
The confirmed entries in BGR’s December 1, 2025 article are listed below. The model year matters: the 2024 and 2025 versions of the Cadillac Lyriq are separate entries, not evidence that every Lyriq year has the same reliability record.
| Model year | Vehicle | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Audi Q8 e-tron | Named in BGR’s selection; the available text does not establish a specific trouble area or its position in the list. BGR |
| 2024 | Cadillac Lyriq | Named in BGR’s selection; the available text does not establish a specific trouble area or its position in the list. BGR |
| 2025 | Lucid Air | Named in BGR’s selection; the available text does not establish a specific trouble area or its position in the list. BGR |
| 2025 | Cadillac Lyriq | Named in BGR’s selection; the available text does not establish a specific trouble area or its position in the list. BGR |
| 2025 | Chevrolet Blazer EV | Consumer Reports’ model page describes it as less reliable than other cars from the same model year. Consumer Reports |
| 2025 | Rivian R1T | Named in BGR’s selection; the available text does not establish a specific trouble area or its position in the list. BGR |
The available text does not verify the other three entries, so this list should not be treated as a complete nine-vehicle enumeration. Nor does the evidence establish a common numeric score or exact ranking order for these six.
How Consumer Reports reliability information works
Consumer Reports bases its reliability history on owner survey information. Its current reliability page describes a survey covering about 380,000 vehicles from model years 2000 through 2025 and 20 potential trouble spots, including electric motors, EV charging, brakes, and electrical accessories. These are survey scope and categories—not a vehicle failure rate or the result of a controlled durability test. Consumer Reports reliability information

- Catch Battery Problems Early: Featured in two videos by Project Farm, a popular YouTube channel with millions of subscribers, the ANCEL BA101 helps you quickly spot battery issues before they leave you stranded. It provides easy-to-understand readings for State of Health (SOH), State of Charge (SOC), voltage, current, CCA, plus cranking and charging system tests, so you can better understand your battery and help avoid unexpected breakdowns
- Know the Real Condition: Don’t let inaccurate readings lead to costly surprises. Built with high-quality copper crocodile clips and a precision smart chip, this battery tester is designed to deliver dependable results. For the most accurate test, enter the correct battery type, rating value (such as CCA/Ah), and temperature exactly as shown on your battery label, so you get a clearer picture of your battery’s true condition
- Fast, Clear, Hassle-Free Testing: The classic black-and-white screen, adjustable contrast, and white backlight make results easy to read in bright sunlight or low-light conditions. One-handed operation keeps testing simple, while direct power from your vehicle’s battery means no charging and no internal batteries to deal with. Multi-language support makes it easier for more users to test with confidence
- Protection When Mistakes Happen: Built-in 4-in-1 protection helps guard against reverse polarity, short circuits, overcurrent, and overvoltage for safer testing, especially in tight spaces where clamp slips or wiring mistakes can happen. The 3x reinforced ABS housing adds extra durability and helps protect both the tester and your battery during everyday use
- Built for More 12V Batteries: Supporting global standards including JIS, EN, DIN, SAE, BCI, GB, CA, MCA, and IEC, this tester works with 12V batteries used in cars, trucks, boats, RVs, ATVs, lawnmowers, golf carts, and motorbikes over 30Ah. Compatible with Flooded, AGM, GEL, and EFB batteries. Not for lithium batteries, non-12V batteries (6V/8V/24V), or motorcycles below 30Ah. For 6V testing, choose BA101 Plus. For 24V testing, choose BA101 PRO
Consumer Reports says: “Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead.” Consumer Reports That distinction matters when comparing a model with years of owner feedback to a newer version with limited survey responses. BGR explains that newer models without enough current-year responses may receive predicted ratings informed by earlier model performance; that explanation should be attributed to BGR rather than treated as a separately verified Consumer Reports methodology statement. What the Blazer EV example does—and doesn’t—tell buyers
Consumer Reports’ page for the 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV calls it “less reliable than other cars from the same model year” and displays three recalls. Consumer Reports The reliability comparison is relative to other 2025 vehicles; it does not state that every Blazer EV will fail, identify an absolute probability of failure, or establish that all three recalls remain unrepaired on a particular vehicle.

Recall counts are separate from reliability assessments. A recall is a safety or repair action, while a reliability rating summarizes reported performance or a prediction. Before buying any used EV, check the exact vehicle identification number (VIN) against official recall records and confirm whether each remedy has been completed. A model-year page or a general count cannot confirm a particular vehicle’s remedy status.

- Match the model year. Do not apply a rating for a 2025 vehicle automatically to a 2024 version—or to every year of the same nameplate.
- Identify the kind of evidence. A rating based on owner reports of past vehicles and a prediction for a newer or data-limited model year are not interchangeable.
- Investigate the specific trouble area. Ask whether reports concern charging, the motor, electrical accessories, brakes, steering, or another component; a broad reliability label alone does not identify what might need attention.
- Check the vehicle, not just the model. Review its service history, open recalls, completed remedies, warranty terms, and access to qualified service in your area.
- Keep other buying factors separate. Owner satisfaction, range, efficiency, and warranty coverage can affect whether an EV suits you, but none is the same as reliability.
Use the BGR article as a pointer to models warranting closer research, not as a substitute for model-year-specific Consumer Reports data or a pre-purchase inspection.
