What “copycat” means in this list
“Copycat” is a description of reported resemblance, not a legal verdict. A manufacturer’s complaint or lawsuit is not proof of infringement, and the documented Landwind ruling does not establish a general rule about Chinese automakers. The nine examples below are a defensible selection from historical automotive coverage; they are not a recovered original list tied to this headline.

Why the Landwind case stands apart
The Landwind X7 and Evoque comparison went beyond press shorthand. In its 22 March 2019 newsroom release, Jaguar Land Rover attributed to the Beijing Chaoyang District Court the finding that five unique Evoque features had been copied directly in the X7 and that the vehicles’ similarity had led to widespread consumer confusion. JLR also said the court ordered production and sales to stop. The timeline matters: Reuters reported JLR’s filing in 2016, while the ruling was announced in 2019. A filing records an allegation and the start of a case; it is not itself a final finding. Reuters on the 2016 filing; JLR on the 2019 decision.

Resemblance, allegation and judgment are different things
These examples span several kinds of evidence: reported visual parallels, automaker objections, lawsuits or legal threats, and—in the Landwind case—a reported court finding. Those categories should not be collapsed. The outcome of a dispute can also depend on the claim and jurisdiction; separate unfair-competition and copyright proceedings, for example, should not be treated as one case with one result. IP Key’s 2022 study discusses distinct proceedings in the design-rights landscape.
Nor does an exterior resemblance establish anything by itself about a car’s engineering, safety or mechanical quality. This list concerns reported design comparisons and disputes, not a technical assessment of the vehicles.
