Those advantages matter most to riders who value cockpit technology and adjustment; they do not make the Harley the automatic winner. Indian lists more horsepower, a lower starting MSRP, and useful standard touring equipment on the base Challenger.
Here are eight preference-dependent reasons to choose the Road Glide, based on U.S. base-model specifications and manufacturer claims. Compare the exact trims and get local out-the-door quotes before deciding.
1. You want a larger, full-color cockpit display
Harley-Davidson specifies a 12.3-inch full-color TFT display running Skyline OS on the 2025 Road Glide. Indian specifies a 7-inch RIDE COMMAND display for the base 2025 Challenger. The size difference is clear, but screen size alone does not establish which interface is easier to use; try both systems and check the functions you actually need.
2. You value a customizable ride mode
Harley says the Road Glide has three programmed ride modes plus a customizable mode. Its modes can change throttle mapping, traction control, ABS, and other settings. Indian’s Challenger overview identifies Rain, Standard, and Sport modes. Choose the Harley if the documented option to tailor a mode appeals to you; choose based on how the settings feel in practice, not on the mode count alone.

3. You want specified Apple CarPlay and USB-C support
Harley lists Apple CarPlay in wired or wireless form, Bluetooth support for phone, media, and headsets, and a USB-C connection on the Road Glide. Indian lists Bluetooth and RIDE COMMAND for the base Challenger, but the base specifications reviewed do not establish every navigation or CarPlay feature. Do not assume features advertised for a Challenger Limited or a later PowerPlus 112 version are included on the base model.
4. The published torque figure matters more to you than peak horsepower
Harley-Davidson lists the Road Glide’s liquid-cooled-head Milwaukee-Eight 117 at 105 hp and 130 ft-lb of torque. Indian lists the base Challenger’s liquid-cooled 108 cu-in PowerPlus at 122 hp and 128 ft-lb. On the manufacturers’ published figures, Harley has the higher torque number while Indian has the higher horsepower number. These are manufacturer specifications, not results from a common independent test, so they do not settle which motorcycle feels stronger on the road.

5. You prefer the Road Glide’s fairing design and Harley’s stated wind-management goals
Harley describes the Road Glide’s Sharknose fairing as CFD-designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency and reduce helmet buffeting. Indian describes the Challenger’s chassis-mounted fairing as providing stable handling and wind protection. Both are manufacturer claims, not independent comparative test results. Wind comfort depends on rider height, seating position, windshield setting, and conditions, so compare them on a ride rather than treating either description as proof of superiority.
6. You want the Harley’s published luggage figure in its stated format
Harley lists 2.42 cubic feet of luggage capacity for the Road Glide. Indian lists more than 18 gallons of storage for the base Challenger, along with keyed locking hard saddlebags. Cubic feet and gallons are different units, and the manufacturers’ measurement definitions are not established as equivalent here; it would be misleading to declare a storage winner from those figures. If luggage is decisive, inspect both bikes’ actual compartments and confirm what is standard on the exact trim.

- 【Fitment】Gloss black front engine guard crash bar fits Harley Davidson Touring models 2014 -later. 2014 - 2022 Road Glide models need fairing support 49000274 (sold separately). Check vehicle compatibility before buying.
- 【Notice】Not compatible with lower fairings or water - cooled motorcycles. Does not fit ’14-’24 touring models equipped with fairing lowers or 21” wheel. Does not fit with P&A soft lowers 57100210.
- 【Top - Notch Material】Crafted from heavy - duty tubular steel with high tensile strength, this crash bar is built to last. With a thickness of 1 - 1/4 inches and precision welding, it's incredibly durable. It can easily handle impacts, providing reliable protection for both you and your motorcycle's engine, no matter how rough the ride gets.
- 【Premium Workmanship】To achieve superior strength and a smooth surface, this crash bar undergoes polishing 3 to 5 times. The powder - coated finish not only gives it a perfect appearance but also prevents scratches, rust, and corrosion. Each crash bar is quality - welded, ensuring a stronger bracket that's durable and built to withstand the test of time, even with high - intensity outdoor use.
- 【Ultimate Protection】The slightly forward - swept design of this crash bar leaves ample space around the brake and shift levers, ensuring smooth operation. It gives your custom Harley a sleek, slammed look while providing limited cosmetic protection to the front fuel tank and engine in low - speed tip - over situations. Additionally, it offers limited protection to the rider's legs, reducing the risk of serious injury.
7. The Harley’s published weight is marginally lower
Harley-Davidson lists the Road Glide at 838 lb in running order; Indian lists the Challenger at 842 lb. The four-pound difference is small, and the stated weight methods may differ. It is not evidence that the Road Glide handles better. Balance at a stop, low-speed control, and comfort are better judged in person.
8. You want to choose the Harley after comparing exact prices and equipment
Harley lists the U.S. 2025 Road Glide from $27,999+ MSRP; Indian lists the U.S. 2025 base Challenger at $26,499 MSRP. The Indian starts $1,500 lower before dealer charges. Indian explicitly excludes destination and handling, tax, title, license, and registration and says dealer prices can vary; Harley’s price is also presented with a “+”. Neither starting MSRP is an out-the-door price.

Request written, local quotes for the exact trims and equipment you are considering. The base Challenger’s published equipment includes a power-adjustable windshield, keyed locking hard saddlebags, and 18+ gallons of storage; compare that against the Road Glide configuration on the quote rather than assuming the two base bikes have identical touring equipment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to compare before you decide
- Ride both motorcycles, paying attention to fit, low-speed balance, wind comfort, and how the controls and displays work for you.
- Match the trims and standard equipment, especially windshield, storage, audio, and connectivity.
- Compare written out-the-door quotes from local dealers; do not treat starting MSRPs as final transaction prices.
- Use each manufacturer’s figures as published specifications, not as a head-to-head independent test.
Harley’s case is strongest if you prioritize the larger display, documented customizable mode, and specified CarPlay support. Indian’s counterpoints are substantial: the base Challenger has the higher published horsepower, lower starting MSRP, and specified power-adjustable windshield and storage. Neither the close published weights nor the fairing descriptions establish a handling or wind-comfort winner.
