The 2025 Toyota GR Corolla makes a strong case for enthusiasts who want a turbocharged 300-hp engine, all-wheel drive, and a choice of manual or automatic transmission in a compact hatchback. Toyota’s U.S. announcement also lists standard front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials and three selectable AWD modes. Those ingredients make it a compelling option, not a proven winner over every rival: the available evidence does not include independent head-to-head testing.
This is a U.S.-market look at the 2025 model year. Toyota’s launch pricing and announced equipment are historical; check current availability, dealer pricing, and the exact car’s equipment before buying.
What’s new on the 2025 GR Corolla?
The headline change is the addition of an eight-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT) with paddle shifters. The six-speed intelligent manual transmission remains available. Toyota also describes revisions to the suspension, cooling, and front-end design for 2025. The details below reflect Toyota’s September 24, 2024 U.S. announcement, rather than independent test results. Toyota’s 2025 U.S. GR Corolla announcement
Eight reasons the 2025 GR Corolla deserves a place on your shortlist
1. A distinctive engine and all-wheel-drive combination
Toyota lists a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine producing 300 hp at 6,500 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque in the U.S.-market 2025 GR Corolla. It is paired with GR-FOUR all-wheel drive, which offers Normal, Gravel, and Track modes. That is a distinctive hardware package for an enthusiast hatchback; the figures alone do not establish a lap-time advantage over another car.

2. You can choose a manual or an automatic
For 2025, Toyota adds an eight-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission with paddle shifters, while continuing to offer a six-speed intelligent manual with rev matching. Toyota says the DAT is designed for fast downshifts and driver inputs; that is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent measurement. Choose the manual if a clutch pedal is essential to you, or consider the DAT if you want automatic shifting with paddles.
3. Front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials are standard
Toyota says front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials are standard across the U.S. 2025 lineup. They are part of the car’s all-wheel-drive hardware and are intended to help manage torque distribution. Their inclusion is a concrete specification, but without like-for-like testing it does not show how the GR Corolla compares with a particular rival.

4. Toyota revised the chassis for 2025
Toyota describes retuned suspension, rebound springs intended to suppress inner-wheel lift, revised rear coils and stabilizers, and a raised rear trailing-arm mounting point. These changes indicate a focus on chassis behavior under demanding driving. Their real-world effect is not quantified in the manufacturer announcement, so treat them as specification changes rather than a guaranteed handling result.
5. The front end and cooling package address sustained use
The redesigned bumper accommodates the radiator, intercooler, brake ducts, an available sub-radiator, and an automatic-transmission-fluid cooler on DAT versions. Toyota says the sub-radiator can extend continuous driving time. It is optional on Premium and standard on Premium Plus in the U.S. lineup. That equipment may matter to buyers planning track use, but Toyota’s claim is not a substitute for independent track testing.

6. Three grades let you balance comfort and performance equipment
Toyota’s U.S. range comprises Core, Premium, and Premium Plus. Equipment varies by grade, so check the window sticker for the specific car rather than assuming every feature is included.
| U.S. grade | Equipment highlighted in Toyota’s announcement |
|---|---|
| Core | Base grade. The announcement identifies the sub-radiator as optional on Premium and standard on Premium Plus, but does not list it as standard on Core. |
| Premium | Brin Naub suede-trimmed seats, JBL eight-speaker audio, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, heated steering wheel and front seats, and front and rear parking sensors. Sub-radiator optional. |
| Premium Plus | Premium equipment plus a forged-carbon-fiber roof, vented bulge hood, matte-black wheels, head-up display, and standard sub-radiator. |
These are U.S.-market grade details from Toyota’s launch announcement; availability and equipment on a car for sale should be verified directly.

7. It includes everyday tech and driver-assistance features
Toyota lists an eight-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 as standard. Toyota says automatic-transmission models add full-speed-range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Proactive Driving Assist. These are equipment and feature descriptions, not crash-test results or a guarantee that driver-assistance systems replace attentive driving.
8. Toyota announced a track-day incentive and a clear launch-price reference
At launch, Toyota announced a complimentary one-year NASA membership for original purchasers, including one free High Performance Driving Event and discounted admission to NASA-sanctioned events. Toyota’s announced U.S. starting MSRP was $38,860, plus a separately stated $1,135 dealer processing and handling fee; the company noted that prices could change. These are historical launch-announcement terms, not current pricing or confirmation that the incentive remains available. Check with a dealer about today’s price and eligibility.

What tires does the U.S. 2025 GR Corolla use?
Toyota specifies Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires in size 235/40R18 for all U.S. 2025 grades. If replacing tires, confirm the exact fitment and required load rating for your vehicle, and check current availability. This factory specification is not, by itself, a recommendation to change tire models.
Which 2025 GR Corolla trim should you buy?
- Choose Core if you want the entry grade and do not need the Premium comfort features listed above.
- Choose Premium if heated front seats and steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, JBL audio, or parking sensors are important to you. Its sub-radiator is optional, so verify whether the car includes it.
- Choose Premium Plus if you specifically want its additional equipment, including the forged-carbon-fiber roof, head-up display, and standard sub-radiator.
Then decide between the six-speed manual and eight-speed DAT based on how you want to drive. Verify the exact transmission, grade, and options on the car you are considering.
Is the 2025 GR Corolla the right hot hatch for you?
It is a strong candidate if you value a high-output turbocharged three-cylinder, all-wheel drive, standard front and rear Torsen differentials, and a choice of manual or automatic transmission. Its grade structure also lets you prioritize comfort features or additional equipment associated with track use.
It may not be your choice if another car better fits your budget, equipment preferences, or driving needs. The available evidence does not establish current transaction prices, U.S. fuel economy, reliability, cargo measurements, or comparative test results against the Honda Civic Type R, Volkswagen Golf R, or other rivals. Toyota’s separate Japan-market release lists different figures—304 PS and 400 Nm for the Japanese RZ specification—so those numbers should not be substituted for the U.S. figures in this article.
