8 Full-Size SUVs to Consider for Towing Under $25,000

Eight full-size SUVs may be worth checking for used towing duty under $25,000, but published tow ratings depend on model year, configuration and equipment. Learn what the available figures show and how to verify a specific SUV.

There isn’t enough comparable evidence to rank 10 full-size SUVs that are currently available for less than $25,000 and attach reliable, year-specific tow ratings to each. A useful shortlist is still possible: the Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Suburban, Toyota Sequoia, Nissan Armada, Infiniti QX80 and Lexus LX 570 are candidates to investigate. The strongest figures available here apply to particular model years or configurations—not every used example of a nameplate.

Of these, iSeeCars places a 2020 Nissan Armada in its under-$25,000 large-SUV category. That is a market-category signal, not a guarantee of a local vehicle at that price. The other candidates are discussed in a 2026 editorial guide, but the available price information does not establish that each is typically under budget. Check local listings and the exact vehicle’s towing documentation before treating any model as a match.

What the available towing figures actually show

The published numbers below come from different years and sources, so they are not a fair head-to-head ranking. Some are maximums for a specific model year or equipment package; others are entries in a towing guide whose complete configuration details are not established here. A used vehicle’s rating depends on its own engine, drivetrain, axle ratio, wheelbase, package and equipment.

SUV Published towing figure What the figure applies to Under-$25,000 evidence
Ford Expedition 9,200 lb Kelley Blue Book’s 2024 used towing guide gives this figure for a 2015 Expedition. Differ-X’s 2026 summary reports 9,200–9,300 lb for 2015–2019 examples with the factory Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package, but does not establish every year/configuration distinction. Confirm the exact vehicle in Ford’s year-specific guide. Not established for a current listing; the 2026 editorial guide discusses the model.
Chevrolet Tahoe Up to 8,400 lb with Max Trailering; up to 7,900 lb in base form Edmunds’ 2025 figures are for the 2025 Tahoe, not older used examples. Not established for a current listing; the 2026 editorial guide discusses the model.
GMC Yukon Not stated No comparable year- and configuration-specific figure is established in the available sources. Not established for a current listing; the 2026 editorial guide discusses the model.
Chevrolet Suburban Up to 8,100 lb Kelley Blue Book’s 2024 guide reports this for certain 2013 configurations. The exact drivetrain/configuration must be checked before applying the figure to a listing. Not established for a current listing; the 2026 editorial guide discusses the model.
Toyota Sequoia Not stated No comparable year- and configuration-specific figure is established in the available sources. Not established for a current listing; the 2026 editorial guide discusses the model.
Nissan Armada 8,500 lb Edmunds reports this as the 2025 Armada maximum. Trailer Life’s 2017 guide also lists 8,500 lb for its Armada entry; do not assume that older guide’s figure applies to a different year or configuration. iSeeCars identifies a 2020 Armada in its under-$25,000 large-SUV category; this does not confirm a particular vehicle’s availability, condition or price today.
Infiniti QX80 8,500 lb Trailer Life’s 2017 guide lists this figure for its QX80 entry. The exact model year and configuration are not established here. Not established for a current listing; the 2026 editorial guide discusses the model.
Lexus LX 570 7,000 lb Trailer Life’s 2017 guide lists this figure for its LX 570 entry. Do not transfer it to a different year or configuration. Not established for a current listing; the 2026 editorial guide discusses the model.

Because these figures do not describe the same model years, equipment or price-qualified vehicles, they should not be read as a ranking. In particular, a newer model’s maximum is not proof of what an older example can tow.

Which candidates merit a closer look?

Ford Expedition

The Expedition has the clearest high-capacity example in this group: Kelley Blue Book gives 9,200 lb for a 2015 model, while the broader 2015–2019 range reported by Differ-X is tied to the factory Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package and still needs year-specific confirmation. Check the Ford towing guide for the exact model year and configuration rather than shopping by the nameplate or the broad range alone.

Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon

The Tahoe’s 2025 maximum illustrates how much equipment can matter: Edmunds reports 8,400 lb with the Max Trailering package, compared with up to 7,900 lb in base form. Those are 2025 figures and cannot establish a used Tahoe’s rating. The Yukon is a plausible candidate in the same shortlist, but no comparable towing figure is established here for it. For either SUV, identify the exact year, drivetrain and trailering equipment before comparing candidates.

Whether you're sleeping on your back, side, or changing positions through the night, rest comes easier

Chevrolet Suburban

The 8,100-lb figure applies to certain 2013 Suburban configurations in Kelley Blue Book’s 2024 guide. Because the drivetrain and other configuration details matter, treat it as a lead for verification, not a rating for every 2013 Suburban. A Suburban or extended-wheelbase SUV may better suit a buyer who needs passenger or cargo space, but the available information does not establish a separate price or towing advantage for that variant.

Toyota Sequoia

The Sequoia belongs on a shopping list of potential full-size towing SUVs, but a defensible year-specific capacity and under-budget price are not established in the sources available here. Check a specific vehicle’s manufacturer documentation and local asking price before treating it as a towing contender.

A storage pocket keeps treats, toys, and essentials within easy reach — organized and ready for every trip.

Nissan Armada

The Armada is the only candidate with a surfaced under-$25,000 market-category example: iSeeCars includes a 2020 model in that category. Edmunds reports an 8,500-lb maximum for the 2025 Armada, while Trailer Life’s 2017 guide lists 8,500 lb for its Armada entry. Neither figure should be applied automatically to a 2020 vehicle; verify that vehicle’s rating and equipment.

Infiniti QX80 and Lexus LX 570

Trailer Life’s 2017 guide lists 8,500 lb for its QX80 entry and 7,000 lb for its LX 570 entry. Those figures are useful starting points only: the cited entries do not establish the exact year and configuration needed to match them to a used listing. The available price evidence also does not show that either SUV is typically under $25,000.

How to check whether a specific SUV can tow your trailer

  1. Identify the exact vehicle. Record its VIN, model year, engine, drivetrain, axle ratio, wheelbase and installed trailering equipment. Do not rely on a generic model page or a listing that says only “tow package.”
  2. Find the manufacturer’s documentation for that year. Match the vehicle’s configuration to the applicable towing guide and owner’s manual. Ford provides an archive of year-specific towing guides; for an Expedition, use the guide for the vehicle’s model year. The 2017 Expedition manual likewise directs owners to the limit for the exact configuration.
  3. Check the vehicle’s load information and payload. The trailer’s tongue weight counts against the SUV’s payload, as do passengers, luggage and installed equipment. A maximum trailer-weight rating alone cannot tell you whether your loaded vehicle stays within its limits.
  4. Compare the trailer’s loaded weight, not just its advertised empty weight. Include cargo and account for tongue weight. Keep the actual tow vehicle and trailer within the limits specified in their respective documentation.
  5. Assess condition and history. Have the used SUV inspected, with particular attention to service condition and equipment relevant to towing. A model’s published rating does not establish that a particular vehicle is mechanically ready to tow.

How to shop the $25,000 ceiling without overreading it

A budget category is not the same as a promise that a suitable vehicle is available near you. The surfaced price evidence does not provide a consistent set of live listings with matching mileage, condition, title history, equipment and region for all eight candidates. Treat the Armada example as evidence that a 2020 model has appeared in an under-$25,000 category—not as proof that one is available now or that other models share that price profile.

Car Windshield Sun Shade, Universal Fit Full-Size SUV Pickup, Cute Black
  • Large Size for Pickup Truck & SUV: Measuring 63 x 33.86 inches, this large windshield sun shade universal fits many full-size pickup truck, SUV and large vehicles including Explorer, Expedition, Grand Cherokee, Pilot, Tundra, Titan, RAM 2500/3500 and similar-size vehicles. Measure before purchase. Vehicle fit may vary by year and trim
  • Funny Eyes Design: Features classic black eyes graphics that add personality to your vehicle while effectively blocking sunlight and reducing heat buildup inside your car during hot summer days
  • UV Heat Protection: Helps protect dashboards, steering wheels and seats from harmful UV exposure, preventing fading and summer heat damage to your vehicle's interior surfaces
  • Foldable and Portable: Lightweight construction allows for quick installation and easy removal, folds compactly into the included storage pouch for convenient storage during commuting, camping, beach trips and outdoor parking
  • Universal Fit Design: Compatible with full-size SUVs, pickup trucks and large vehicles with similar windshield dimensions, providing comprehensive coverage for maximum sun protection and heat reduction
  • Set a mileage, condition and title-history standard before comparing asking prices; otherwise, the budget comparison has no consistent basis.
  • Search your local market for the exact model years and configurations that meet your needs, and confirm the vehicle is still available at the advertised price.
  • Compare each listing’s equipment and documentation with the year-specific towing rating. A lower asking price does not make a lower-rated configuration suitable for a heavier trailer.
  • Allow for the possibility that the best-equipped example may exceed the purchase budget. If so, reconsider the trailer weight or the vehicle criteria rather than assuming a headline maximum applies to a cheaper trim.
