The best-documented starting point is a Ford Performance calibration matched to the truck’s model year. Ford reports gains of 55 hp and 100 lb-ft for its M-9603-F35A calibration on specified 2024–2026 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost applications, while Mishimoto lists intercooler kits for selected 2015–2020 F-150s and Ford’s older catalog describes turbo kits for earlier trucks. These are six fitment-specific options—not six upgrades that fit every vehicle with a 3.5L EcoBoost.
This guide focuses on standard F-150 3.5L EcoBoost applications. The engine name alone is not enough to select a part: verify model year, engine configuration, trim, emissions approval and current fitment before buying. PowerBoost hybrids and Raptors are not covered by the standard F-150 calibration part number discussed below.
Six documented upgrade options by F-150 application
These options are organized by the year ranges and part applications documented by Ford and Mishimoto. The list is not a head-to-head ranking: the sources do not provide comparable independent tests across calibrations, intercoolers and turbochargers.
1. Ford Performance calibration: 2024–2026 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost
Ford lists calibration M-9603-F35A for specified 2024–2026 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost models. Ford reports peak output of 450 hp at 5,250 rpm, a gain of 55 hp at that speed, and peak torque of 510 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm, with a 100 lb-ft gain at 2,500 rpm. These are manufacturer-reported figures, not independent test results or guaranteed gains for every truck. Ford Performance calibration listing

Ford says the Pro-Cal 4 delivery tool is included and that “Premium fuel [is] required for maximum performance.” The listing excludes 3.5L PowerBoost hybrid engines and F-150 Raptors; the calibration and tool are VIN-locked and non-transferable. Ford lists 2024 and 2025 as 50-state approved under separate CARB executive orders; 2026 availability is for non-California vehicles only. The listing describes a 3-year/36,000-mile Ford Racing Parts warranty measured from the new vehicle’s in-service date, conditional on installation by a Ford dealer or ASE/Red Seal-certified technician and registration through Ford’s tech line. Check the listing for the full terms.
2. Ford Performance calibration: 2021–2023 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost
Ford’s emissions-compliant parts page identifies M-9603-F35 for 2021–2023 and M-9603-F35A for 2024–2026. The 55-hp and 100-lb-ft figures above belong to the M-9603-F35A listing; do not assume they apply to M-9603-F35. Confirm that the exact truck is covered and review the live product details before purchase. Ford Performance emissions-compliant parts

3. Mishimoto intercooler kit: 2015–2016 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost
Mishimoto lists an all-aluminum, TIG-welded intercooler kit for 2015–2016 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost trucks and says it is compatible with the stock fan. The company claims a 10°F intake-air-temperature reduction, 77% more internal core volume and 163% more external fin area versus stock for this listed kit. Those are vendor product claims, not independently established horsepower gains or results for other applications. Mishimoto 2015–2016 kit
4. Mishimoto intercooler kit: 2017–2020 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost
Mishimoto also lists a kit for the 2017–2020 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost range, with the same stated 10°F temperature reduction, 77% increase in internal core volume and 163% increase in external fin area. Treat these as the manufacturer’s claims for the listed kit, not a promise of a power increase. Because product-page fitment can change, confirm the exact year and truck configuration on the current listing. Mishimoto 2017–2020 kit listing

An intercooler is most relevant as a charge-air temperature-management upgrade for repeated or sustained high-load use; the available product figures do not establish a universal horsepower gain. Mishimoto’s discussion of its earlier 2011–2014 cooler describes development in response to repeated pulls and heavy towing, but it is not a test of the later kits. 5. Ford Performance optimized-wheel turbochargers: 2011–2012 F-150
Ford’s 2020 catalog lists M-9438-35T optimized-wheel turbochargers for 2011–2012 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost trucks. The catalog marks the kit for off-road use. It does not establish current stock, current documentation or suitability for public-road use in a particular jurisdiction, so verify all three before considering it. Ford Performance 2020 catalog

The same 2020 catalog lists M-9438-35TA larger replacement turbos for 2013–2016 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost trucks and marks them for off-road use. Ford says custom calibration is required to take full advantage of the improved power. As with the earlier kit, the catalog is not proof of present availability or road legality.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose between calibration, intercooler and turbo upgrades
- Start with fitment. Check the full vehicle details and exact part application; “3.5L EcoBoost” does not establish compatibility. The documented intercoolers and turbos are F-150-specific, and the calibration has explicit exclusions.
- Match the part to the objective. The calibration is the option with Ford-published output gains. The cited intercoolers are intended to manage charge-air temperature, while the older turbo kits are an advanced airflow change that calls for attention to calibration and legal use.
- Do not compare unlike claims as if they were one test. Ford’s calibration output figures and Mishimoto’s intercooler temperature and size claims describe different products and measurements; the sources provide no independent, comparable test spanning these options.
- Check emissions status and warranty before installation. Confirm current approval for the truck and jurisdiction, and read the exact warranty conditions. Approval and terms for one year or part number should not be assumed to cover another.
- Verify availability. The cited Ford turbo information is from a 2020 catalog. It does not confirm that either kit is currently sold.
Why an air/oil separator is not one of these street-performance picks
Ford lists air/oil separator M-6766-35TA for certain 2021–2023 F-150 and F-150 Raptor 3.5L EcoBoost vehicles built after June 21, 2021. Ford says its dual canisters separate oil vapor in the PCV system and help keep oil out of the intake manifold. But Ford also explicitly warns not to install it on a vehicle driven on public roads, and says installation is likely to violate US and Canadian motor-vehicle emissions laws and regulations. It is therefore not an ordinary public-road performance recommendation. Ford Performance air/oil separator listing
