FCA service guidance documents camshaft-lobe and lifter-roller wear as a possible cause of certain complaints, but it does not establish how often the problem occurs or show that every truck from a particular year is affected. Diagnosis—not model year alone—should guide the repair.
What years of 6.7 Cummins trucks are affected?
The available official records do not establish a complete list of affected model years or a fleet-wide failure rate. FCA’s STAR On-Line Case S1709000010 Rev. B, released in March 2022, describes symptoms, inspection, and a conditional repair path for excessive camshaft-lobe and lifter-roller wear. The earlier Rev. A, released January 16, 2021, gives the same core guidance. Neither is a year-by-year defect declaration or prevalence study.
That means it is not supported to say that all 6.7L Cummins trucks from a particular year—or a defined run of years—will fail. A STAR case records similar past cases; FCA says it does not determine what is wrong with an individual vehicle or authorize warranty repair. Read FCA STAR Case S1709000010 Rev. B (March 2022) and Rev. A (January 16, 2021).
What symptoms can point to lifter or camshaft wear?
FCA’s case lists abnormal engine noise, rough idle, lack of power, and misfire as possible customer complaints. It says investigation may identify excessive wear on one or more camshaft lobes or lifter rollers. The case’s wording is: “Customer complaints may include abnormal engine noise, rough idle, lack of power, misfire.” These signs do not confirm lifter failure on their own; a technician must inspect the engine and establish the cause.

- Function :This tool is used to remove tappets in the “c” Series(114mm Bore) engine without removing the oil pan.
- Advantage:The tool can be used anytime there is space available to remove the camshaft because trough has same overall length and diameter of the camshaft and gear.
How does the documented inspection and repair path work?
FCA’s STAR case says further inspection should happen after excessive camshaft-lobe or lifter-roller wear has been identified and before attempting repair. Its described path includes checking the oil control valve (OCV) screens for metal debris using the applicable service procedure. If no debris is found, the case directs technicians to continue with camshaft and lifter replacement.
- Confirm the suspected wear. Have a qualified technician investigate the symptoms and identify whether camshaft-lobe or lifter-roller wear is present.
- Inspect the OCV screens. Use current service information and the procedure that applies to the specific truck.
- Follow the finding. The STAR case describes camshaft and lifter replacement when excessive wear has been identified and the screens show no debris. It does not provide a complete next-step repair plan for a debris finding, so that condition requires diagnosis under applicable service information.
This is technician-facing guidance, not a universal do-it-yourself procedure. The case does not cover every damage state, specify repair costs, or promise that a repair will be covered by warranty.

Does Cummins Recall 67A cover lifter failure?
No. Cummins describes Recall 67A as a special warranty extension for listed emissions components on eligible U.S. 2013–2018 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 pickups with the 6.7L engine that receive the specified software update. Its document places 2019 pickups under separate Recall VB6. It does not identify lifters or camshafts as covered items, so Recall 67A is not evidence that a lifter or camshaft repair is covered. Check the VIN and program terms before relying on any coverage. See Cummins’ Emissions Recall 67A Special Warranty Extension.

What to verify before buying parts or authorizing a repair
- Diagnosis: Symptoms alone do not prove lifter or camshaft failure. Ask what inspection established the wear.
- Inspection findings: Confirm whether the OCV screens were checked and what was found.
- Repair scope: The STAR case’s no-debris path describes camshaft and lifter replacement; ask the shop to explain any additional work based on the truck’s actual condition.
- Fitment: A search for a “6.7 Cummins lifter kit” is only a starting point. Verify the truck’s exact configuration, part fitment, and diagnosed repair scope before ordering.
- Coverage: Check VIN-specific warranty or recall eligibility separately; the STAR case does not authorize warranty work, and Recall 67A does not establish lifter or camshaft coverage.
