5 Things We Love About the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6—and 5 We Don’t

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 pairs long-range potential and quick-charging capability with a distinctive design. Here are five strengths and five trade-offs to weigh before buying.

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 makes a strong case as an efficient, quick-charging electric sedan, especially in long-range rear-wheel-drive form. Its trade-offs are just as clear: the sloping roof restricts rear headroom, the trunk is small, and the best range and all-wheel-drive power come in different configurations. Here are five reasons to like it and five reasons to think carefully before buying.

What we love about the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6

1. The SE RWD can go a long way between charges

Hyundai lists an EPA-estimated range of 342 miles for the 2025 SE RWD, the IONIQ 6 configuration to choose if maximizing rated range is the priority. That figure does not apply across the lineup: Hyundai lists 240 miles for SE Standard Range RWD, 316 miles for SE AWD, 291 miles for SEL/Limited RWD, and 270 miles for SEL/Limited AWD. These are EPA estimates, not promises of real-world range; driving, temperature, vehicle and battery condition, and equipment can affect results. Hyundai’s trim specifications show how much the choice of battery and drivetrain matters.

2. Its fast-charging capability can make stops shorter

Hyundai says the IONIQ 6’s 800-volt system can charge from 10% to 80% in about 18 minutes when connected to a 350-kW DC charger under the stated conditions. That is a useful capability for road trips, but not a guaranteed stop time: actual charging depends on the charger’s output, battery state and temperature, vehicle settings, and other conditions. Hyundai also cautions that station availability is not guaranteed. See Hyundai’s charging details and qualifications.

3. AWD brings a substantial power option

Hyundai lists 320 horsepower for AWD models, compared with 225 hp for long-range RWD versions and 149 hp for the SE Standard Range RWD. The manufacturer lists 446 lb-ft of torque for SEL and Limited AWD, versus 258 lb-ft for long-range RWD. AWD is the more powerful choice, while the SE RWD holds the lineup’s highest listed range; buyers are choosing between priorities, not getting both headline figures in one configuration. Hyundai’s U.S. specifications list the output by configuration.

4. Reviewers praise its composed ride

Edmunds describes the IONIQ 6 as comfortable on the road, stable through corners, and well-managed under braking. In its test, Edmunds recorded 4.6 seconds from 0 to 60 mph in an AWD Limited. That acceleration result belongs to Edmunds’ tested car and conditions, rather than every IONIQ 6. Read Edmunds’ review and test details.

5. The design is distinctive, and efficiency is central to its appeal

The IONIQ 6’s curved, aerodynamic profile sets it apart from more conventional electric sedans. That look is a matter of taste, but it gives the car a strong identity. The efficiency story also needs configuration-level context: ENERGY STAR lists 111 combined MPGe for a 2025 RWD configuration with 20-inch wheels, not for every trim. ENERGY STAR’s listing identifies the configuration behind that figure.

What we don’t love

1. Rear-seat headroom is tight

Both Edmunds and Car and Driver flag limited rear headroom. Edmunds notes that the sloping roof can also make getting into the back seat harder for taller passengers. If adults will regularly ride in the rear, sit back there before committing. Edmunds and Car and Driver discuss the limitation.

2. Seeing out the back is not a strength

Edmunds points to the small rear window and thick roof pillars as factors that limit rear visibility. Treat this as a practical test-drive question: check how comfortable you are judging traffic and maneuvering, rather than assuming the view will suit you. Edmunds’ review describes the visibility concern.

  • Service: We are committed to providing customers with better product and better service. If you have any problem with our product, please feel free to contact us at any time and we will try our best to guarantee that you are 100% satisfied.

3. The trunk is small for bulky loads

Car and Driver lists 11 cubic feet of cargo capacity and describes the cargo area as small; ENERGY STAR also lists 11 cubic feet for its 2025 RWD, 20-inch-wheel configuration. A sedan trunk may be enough for everyday bags but less accommodating for bulky luggage, a stroller, or other gear. Bring the items you carry most often and try them in the car. Car and Driver and ENERGY STAR provide the cited capacity figures.

4. The styling will not appeal to everyone

The same unusual shape that makes the IONIQ 6 stand out can put off shoppers who prefer a conventional sedan. Edmunds calls the styling unconventional, while Car and Driver characterizes it as love-it-or-hate-it. That is a subjective drawback, but one worth considering when you will see the car every day. Edmunds and Car and Driver discuss its polarizing looks.

5. Highway range is not the EPA estimate

EPA range should not be treated as a highway guarantee. In Car and Driver’s 75-mph highway test, a large-battery RWD IONIQ 6 covered 260 miles, below the 342-mile EPA estimate it cited for that configuration. That is one publication’s test result under its conditions, not a prediction for every trip. Hyundai likewise says actual range varies with driving and temperature. Car and Driver’s test and Hyundai’s range qualifications offer useful context.

What to check before buying

Match the trim to your priorities

Hyundai lists four U.S. trims: SE Standard Range, SE, SEL, and Limited. Its page displays starting MSRPs of $37,850, $42,800, $45,600, and $51,100, respectively, before freight and other charges; dealer prices and availability vary. Those are displayed starting prices, not a quote for a specific vehicle. Hyundai lists battery capacities of 53.0 kWh for SE Standard Range and 77.4 kWh for other trims. For current equipment and availability, confirm the details of the specific build with Hyundai or a dealer. Hyundai’s U.S. page has the listed trim specifications and pricing qualifications.

  • Prioritize the longest listed range: SE RWD, at an EPA-estimated 342 miles.
  • Want AWD and the higher listed output? Hyundai lists 320 hp for AWD versions, with lower EPA-estimated range than the maximum-range SE RWD.
  • Often carry rear passengers or bulky cargo? Try the back seat and trunk with your usual passengers and gear.
  • Expect to charge at home? Edmunds notes a 240-volt charger may involve equipment purchases, electrical-panel work, permits, and installation costs. Get a site-specific assessment rather than assuming every home needs the same work. Edmunds’ ownership discussion covers the potential setup needs.

Check recall status by VIN

NHTSA Recall 25V606 concerns certain 2023–2025 IONIQ 6 vehicles produced from December 14, 2022, through December 26, 2024. Hyundai’s report, submitted September 11, 2025, lists 31,042 potentially involved vehicles and estimates that 1% have the defect. The charge-port door outer panel may have insufficient engagement of its retaining hooks and could detach during operation, creating a road hazard and crash risk. The report describes a no-cost dealer repair for affected vehicles. Model year alone does not establish whether a particular car is included, so check the VIN and confirm whether any required repair has been completed. Read NHTSA’s recall report.

Compare alternatives on the details that matter to you

Edmunds identifies the Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2, and BMW i4 as alternatives. Rather than relying on a broad price or range comparison, compare the specific trims you would buy: current transaction price and incentives, EPA range, drivetrain, public charging access and charge time, rear-seat and cargo space, and acceleration. Prices and incentives change, and the available comparisons do not establish a same-date, same-trim cost ranking. Edmunds lists these alternatives.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
