The Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail is a one-off coachbuilt roadster whose documented details make its exclusivity tangible: hand-positioned wood marquetry, a painstaking paint process, rose-inspired leather, a removable bespoke watch and a matching Champagne Chest. Rolls-Royce has not confirmed the often-repeated $30 million figure in the sources available here, so it should be treated as an unverified estimate, not an official price.
1. Rose-petal marquetry made from 1,603 wood pieces
The cabin’s central wood feature translates the Black Baccara rose inspiration into a pattern of falling petals. Rolls-Royce says the parquetry uses 1,603 Black Sycamore veneer triangles, each cut, sanded and positioned by hand. The company describes it as the most complex expression of parquetry in its history; its 2023 announcement says the hand-finishing and placement took almost two years. Rolls-Royce’s 2023 announcement and its Coachbuild retrospective document the work.

2. An exterior paint process refined through 150 iterations
The deep red finish was not achieved by simply selecting a color from a standard palette. Rolls-Royce reports that 150 iterations were required to perfect the new exterior paint process. For the red components, artisans also spent a year developing a lacquer formula intended to prevent fading. These are manufacturer-reported development details, not an independent durability test.

3. Two red leathers that echo the rose inspiration
The seats pair dark red leather called Mystery with lighter red leather called True Love. Both have a subtle copper shimmer. Rolls-Royce says the tones were chosen to evoke the pearlescent texture of Black Baccara rose petals, carrying the exterior’s floral design idea into the cabin through material and color rather than a literal floral motif.

The watch can be removed; when it is out, a titanium blank head covers the aperture, topped by a white-gold coin engraved with a rose.
The arrangement makes the timepiece part of the car’s design while allowing it to be taken out, with a purpose-made finish for the space it leaves behind. The watch and its covering detail are described in Rolls-Royce’s 2023 announcement.

5. A matching Champagne Chest made for the commission
The bespoke Champagne Chest was commissioned to stage the client’s exclusive vintage. It carries matching rose-petal parquetry and coordinated colors and materials, extending the car’s visual language to a separate presentation piece. This is a feature of this commission, not an accessory Rolls-Royce identifies as generally available.
How the design ties together
The La Rose Noire’s distinguishing details are not just costly components: they connect a single design idea across paint, leather, woodwork and commissioned objects. Rolls-Royce says the design was inspired by the Black Baccara rose. Head of Coachbuild Design Alex Innes described it as “glamour distilled”; that is the design lead’s company statement, rather than an independent assessment. The company’s announcement also identifies La Rose Noire as the first of four unique Droptail commissions.
For scale, Rolls-Royce lists the roadster at 5.3 metres long and 2 metres wide, and notes an abstract petal motif across the aft deck. Those exterior details sit alongside the cabin’s hand-built marquetry, rather than serving as a substitute for it. See the official La Rose Noire model page.
