5 of the Most Compelling New 2026 Cars Still Offering Manual Transmissions

Manual transmissions are still available in more 2026 cars than many shoppers realize. Here are five compelling U.S.-market choices, plus the trim details buyers need to verify.

For U.S. shoppers who still want three pedals, the 2026 model year offers more choice than the usual “last manual cars” headlines suggest. Five especially compelling options are the Honda Civic Si, Subaru WRX, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Toyota GR86, and Ford Mustang.

They cover five different needs: a practical sport sedan, an all-wheel-drive sedan, a lightweight roadster, a rear-wheel-drive coupe, and a V8 muscle car. This is an editorial selection—not a complete list of every new manual-transmission vehicle available in the United States for 2026.

2026 manual-transmission cars at a glance

Before comparing them, check the distinction between a standard manual and an available manual. A standard transmission comes with the relevant trim or configuration. An available transmission may require choosing a particular trim, package, or drivetrain.

Vehicle Format Drivetrain 2026 manual-transmission details Best fit
Honda Civic Si Compact sport sedan Front-wheel drive Standard close-ratio six-speed manual with rev-match control and a helical limited-slip differential Buyers who need a practical four-door
Subaru WRX Four-door sports sedan Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive Standard fully synchronized six-speed manual Drivers who want a manual and AWD
Mazda MX-5 Miata Two-seat roadster Rear-wheel drive Six-speed manual; Sport and Club are manual-only, while Grand Touring offers a manual or available automatic Open-air, lightweight driving
Toyota GR86 Rear-wheel-drive sports coupe Rear-wheel drive Six-speed manual or automatic; naturally aspirated 2.4-liter boxer four-cylinder A straightforward manual coupe
Ford Mustang V8 muscle car Rear-wheel drive Six-speed manual standard on GT; Dark Horse uses a specialized TREMEC six-speed manual V8 power with a traditional gearbox

1. 2026 Honda Civic Si: the practical manual sport sedan

The 2026 Honda Civic Si keeps the manual sedan alive with a standard close-ratio six-speed manual transmission. Honda also lists rev-match control and a helical limited-slip differential as part of the Si’s performance hardware.

  • Offers the maximum combination of overall flame and heat protection, along with durability and comfort
  • TPP Rating of 11

  • Black Epaulets, Belt & High Back Collar
  • Contrasting Black Arm & Leg Stripes

That combination makes the Civic Si the clearest choice here for someone who wants a manual car without moving to a two-seat roadster or a dedicated coupe. Its sedan body gives it the most conventional day-to-day format in this group, while the front-wheel-drive layout and limited-slip differential distinguish it from an ordinary compact sedan.

What makes the Civic Si different

  • The manual is standard: shoppers do not have to search for a special transmission package.
  • Rev-match control is included: the system is designed to help synchronize engine speed during downshifts, though drivers can choose how they want to use it.
  • A helical limited-slip differential is part of the formula: it is a more meaningful performance detail than simply offering a manual gearbox in an otherwise ordinary sedan.
  • It is the practical four-door option: among these five cars, the Civic Si is the natural starting point for buyers who need a sedan format.

Honda’s current 2026 specifications support the transmission and equipment details above. Exact pricing, incentives, fuel economy, and local availability should be checked separately because those can vary by market and change during the model year.

2. 2026 Subaru WRX: the manual-plus-AWD choice

The 2026 Subaru WRX remains a rare combination: a four-door sports sedan with a standard six-speed manual and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Subaru identifies the gearbox as a fully synchronized six-speed manual.

The WRX is the strongest fit for shoppers who want three-pedal driving but do not want to give up all-wheel drive. That makes its configuration distinct from the front-wheel-drive Civic Si and the rear-wheel-drive sports cars in this selection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What makes the WRX different

  • AWD is standard: buyers do not have to choose between the manual and Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.
  • It retains four doors: the WRX is more usable as a single-car household vehicle than a two-seat roadster.
  • The gearbox is fully synchronized: this is the specification Subaru gives for its six-speed manual transmission.
  • It remains a turbocharged Boxer-powered sports sedan: Subaru’s model information references a 271-horsepower turbocharged Boxer engine, but buyers should confirm output and equipment for the exact trim being considered.

The WRX is not automatically the right choice for every winter driver; tires, driving conditions, and local weather still matter. Its appeal here is more specific: it is one of the few 2026 vehicles combining a factory manual with standard all-wheel drive and a four-door body.

3. 2026 Mazda MX-5 Miata: the open-air manual

Mazda has not abandoned the formula: the 2026 MX-5 Miata still centers its driving experience on a six-speed manual transmission. The Sport and Club models are manual-only, according to Mazda’s 2026 pricing and packaging information. The Grand Touring can be configured with either the manual or an available six-speed automatic.

The Miata is the most specialized vehicle in this group. It is a two-seat, rear-wheel-drive roadster, so its main advantage is not carrying passengers or cargo. It is the clearest choice for someone who values an open-air, lightweight sports-car format above maximum practicality.

Understanding the Miata trim split

  • Sport: manual transmission only.
  • Club: manual transmission only.
  • Grand Touring: manual or available six-speed automatic.

That distinction matters if you are shopping for a specific feature set. The statement that the 2026 Miata offers a manual is accurate, but it should not be broadened into a claim that every trim has identical transmission availability.

The Miata’s rear-wheel-drive roadster layout also makes it fundamentally different from the Civic Si and WRX. It is a weekend-friendly sports car first, whereas the sedans are easier to justify when one vehicle has to handle regular passengers and everyday duties.

4. 2026 Toyota GR86: the straightforward rear-drive coupe

Toyota lists the 2026 GR86 with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive, and a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine. Toyota gives the engine an output of 228 horsepower and lists a manufacturer-estimated 0-to-60-mph time of 6.1 seconds.

  • Advanced Protection Design: One-piece layout structure offers comprehensive coverage for the driver, ensuring maximum safety and comfort during high-intensity racing.
  • Ergonomic 3D Stand-Up Collar: Specially designed collar fits the neck's contour for enhanced protection and comfort, even when wearing a helmet.
  • Quick Rescue with Liftable Shoulder Straps: Innovative shoulder strap system allows for fast and safe extraction of the driver during emergencies, enabling rescuers to pull out the driver efficiently.
  • Flame-Retardant YKK Zippers: Double-open-tailed YKK zippers ensure easy wear and removal while offering superior flame protection, crucial in high-risk environments.
  • Flexible Comfort Fit: Elastic clip-ring construction and ribbed cuffs enhance arm mobility and ensure a snug fit, while the ribbed leg design offers additional burn protection, and the highly elastic waist adjusts for optimal comfort during driving.

The GR86 belongs on this list because it offers a relatively simple rear-wheel-drive sports-coupe format with a conventional manual gearbox. It is less specialized than the Miata because it has a coupe body, and it avoids the V8 scale of the Mustang.

What makes the GR86 different

  • Rear-wheel drive is standard: the GR86 keeps the classic front-engine, rear-drive sports-car layout.
  • The engine is naturally aspirated: its 2.4-liter Boxer four-cylinder does not rely on a turbocharger.
  • The manual is an option: unlike the Civic Si and WRX, the GR86 is also sold with an automatic transmission.
  • Toyota’s acceleration number is an estimate: the 6.1-second 0-to-60-mph figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independent test result.

The GR86 is a good match for a buyer who specifically wants a compact rear-drive coupe and a traditional manual without stepping up to a larger V8 car. Actual equipment and availability should be confirmed for the selected trim and dealer.

5. 2026 Ford Mustang: the V8 manual option

For 2026, Ford still offers a six-speed manual Mustang GT. The GT uses a 5.0-liter V8 that Ford lists at 486 horsepower. Ford also offers the higher-performance Dark Horse configuration with a modified TREMEC TR-3160 six-speed manual, rev matching, and no-lift shifting.

The Mustang is the V8 muscle-car entry in this group and the choice for shoppers who want a manual transmission paired with a traditional American V8. The GT and Dark Horse should be treated as separate configurations: the GT is the conventional manual V8 choice, while the Dark Horse adds specialized performance equipment and its own TREMEC transmission specification.

Important Mustang transmission details

  • Mustang GT: six-speed manual is standard.
  • Mustang Dark Horse: uses a modified TREMEC TR-3160 six-speed manual with rev matching and no-lift shifting.
  • Mustang EcoBoost: Ford lists a 10-speed automatic as standard; do not assume the turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost is available with a manual.

The Mustang demonstrates that the manual gearbox has not disappeared from the performance-car market, but it is limited to particular powertrains. Anyone configuring one should start with the GT or Dark Horse rather than assuming the transmission is available across the entire Mustang range.

Which 2026 manual car fits your needs?

If your priority is… Start with… Why
A practical four-door manual Honda Civic Si It combines a sedan body with a standard six-speed manual, rev matching, and a helical limited-slip differential.
Manual driving with AWD Subaru WRX Its six-speed manual and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive are both standard.
Open-air driving Mazda MX-5 Miata It is a two-seat rear-wheel-drive roadster, with manual-only Sport and Club trims.
A simple rear-drive coupe Toyota GR86 It pairs rear-wheel drive with a naturally aspirated Boxer engine and an available six-speed manual.
A V8 and manual transmission Ford Mustang GT The GT combines a standard six-speed manual with Ford’s 5.0-liter V8; the Dark Horse is the more specialized alternative.

These labels are configuration-based editorial categories, not claims about which car is fastest, most comfortable, most reliable, or best-handling. The manufacturer specifications establish the body styles, drivetrains, engines, and transmission availability; independent testing would be needed for comparative judgments about ride, clutch feel, shifter quality, acceleration, or handling.

Other new 2026 cars with manual transmissions

This five-car selection is not the complete U.S. market. Official 2026 manufacturer information also verifies manual-transmission choices for the following models:

  • Toyota GR Supra: available six-speed manual.
  • Toyota GR Corolla: available six-speed manual.
  • Hyundai Elantra N: standard six-speed manual, with an optional eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.
  • Acura Integra Type S: six-speed manual listed in Acura’s 2026 comparison material.
  • Nissan Z: available six-speed manual. Nissan’s NISMO brochure identifies the NISMO as automatic-only.

That broader list is why descriptions such as “the only five manual cars left” or “the last five manual cars” would be inaccurate. The five featured here are better understood as a representative cross-section of the most interesting formats still available for the 2026 model year.

How to shop for a new 2026 manual car

  1. Confirm the exact trim. Manual availability can change by model, trim, and powertrain. The Miata and Mustang illustrate this especially clearly: not every trim has the same transmission choices.
  2. Check the manufacturer’s current build-and-price tool. Use the current U.S. model and specifications pages before placing an order. Older articles may describe a prior model year or a configuration that is no longer offered.
  3. Verify dealer inventory separately. A manufacturer page confirms that a configuration exists; it does not guarantee that a nearby dealer has one in stock. Ask the dealer to confirm the transmission and VIN-specific equipment.
  4. Choose the body style before comparing performance claims. A Civic Si or WRX is a four-door sedan, the Miata is a two-seat roadster, the GR86 is a coupe, and the Mustang is the V8 muscle-car alternative. Those practical differences may matter more than a single acceleration number.
  5. Decide whether you need AWD, rear-wheel drive, or front-wheel drive. The WRX is the AWD choice, the Miata, GR86, and Mustang are rear-wheel-drive options, and the Civic Si uses front-wheel drive.
  6. Test the actual car if possible. Manual-transmission ergonomics are personal. Check seating position, pedal spacing, clutch take-up, shifter reach, visibility, and whether the vehicle’s size works for your regular passengers and cargo.
  7. Get instruction if you are new to manual driving. A short lesson can be more useful than treating the transmission as a purely mechanical purchase decision. Avoid practicing in traffic or on hills until you can operate the clutch and select gears consistently.

Helpful tool for evaluating an existing car or trade-in

An OBD2 scanner for checking a used car can read certain diagnostic trouble codes from an existing vehicle or trade-in. It is optional—not something required to buy any of the new cars above—and it does not replace a professional inspection. A scanner cannot identify every mechanical, body, electrical, or maintenance problem, and a seller’s recently cleared codes may not immediately reappear.

What this list does—and does not—claim

The vehicle configurations in this article are based on U.S.-market 2026 manufacturer model, pricing, packaging, and specification information. Model-year availability, equipment, pricing, incentives, and local inventory can change. None of the transmission choices should be read as a claim that a car is safer, cheaper to own, more reliable, or more theft-resistant than an automatic model.

For the most accurate purchase decision, verify the exact trim, transmission, engine, and equipment with the manufacturer and selling dealer at the time you shop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these the only new cars with manual transmissions for 2026?

No. This is a representative five-car selection for the U.S. market, not a complete census. The 2026 Toyota GR Supra, Toyota GR Corolla, Hyundai Elantra N, Acura Integra Type S, and Nissan Z also have verified manual-transmission configurations.

Which 2026 manual car has all-wheel drive?

The Subaru WRX is the all-wheel-drive choice in this selection. Subaru lists a standard fully synchronized six-speed manual and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

Is the manual transmission standard on every 2026 Miata?

No. Mazda identifies the 2026 MX-5 Miata Sport and Club as manual-only, while the Grand Touring offers either the six-speed manual or an available six-speed automatic.

Does every 2026 Ford Mustang offer a manual transmission?

No. Ford lists the six-speed manual as standard on the Mustang GT and offers a specialized TREMEC six-speed manual for the Dark Horse. The EcoBoost uses a standard 10-speed automatic.

The Bottom Line

The 2026 Honda Civic Si, Subaru WRX, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Toyota GR86, and Ford Mustang prove that a new manual car can still fit several different lifestyles. Choose the Civic Si for four-door practicality, the WRX for standard AWD, the Miata for open-air simplicity, the GR86 for a rear-drive coupe, or the Mustang GT for a V8. Just verify the exact trim and local availability—and remember that these are five compelling choices, not the entire 2026 U.S. manual-transmission market.
