The exact tools and procedures depend on the vehicle, so check its owner’s or service manual before starting.
1. Floor jack: raise the vehicle at its specified lift point
A floor jack raises the vehicle so you can access the wheel, but it is not a safe support by itself. Consult the vehicle instructions for the approved lifting point and follow the jack’s instructions. Harbor Freight’s jack-stand manual also directs users to lift at the manufacturer’s recommended point before positioning stands at approved support points.
2. Matched jack stands: support the vehicle while you work
Use a properly rated pair of jack stands to support the raised end of the vehicle; never rely on the floor jack alone. Harbor Freight’s manual for Item 64908 says stand capacity is rated per pair, calls for two stands at corresponding support points, and instructs users to check that both saddles are seated properly. Follow the instructions for your specific stands and the vehicle maker’s designated support points.
3. Lug wrench or breaker bar and socket: remove the wheel
A lug wrench or a breaker bar fitted with the correct socket helps loosen the wheel fasteners. The vehicle determines the socket size and the appropriate tool; the available Harbor Freight sources do not establish one specific model as best for every car.

- Park on a flat, solid surface and chock the wheels that will remain on the ground.
- Loosen the wheel fasteners before raising the vehicle, following the vehicle and jack instructions.
- Raise the vehicle at its specified lifting point, then support it on the stands before removing the wheel.

4. Caliper piston service tool: make room for the new pads
When the caliper design requires it, a piston compressor or service kit retracts or rotates the piston to create clearance for new pads. Harbor Freight lists two options with different layouts and stated coverage:

Harbor Freight’s MADDOX listing, Item 63264 manual, and ICON listing describe these tools and their stated applications. Check the vehicle service information before choosing or using a kit: some calipers require a different tool, and some electronic parking-brake systems require a service mode or procedure.
5. Torque wrench: tighten wheel fasteners to the vehicle specification
Use a torque wrench to tighten the wheel fasteners to the value specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Harbor Freight lists a QUINN 1/2-inch-drive preset lug-nut wrench with an 80–160 ft-lb range. That is the tool’s stated range, not a universal wheel torque value; verify the vehicle’s specification falls within it before choosing the wrench. The range appears on Harbor Freight’s QUINN product listing.

When another tool may be needed
Brake bleeder
A bleeder is not automatically needed for a pads-and-rotors replacement if the hydraulic system stays closed. It may be required if the procedure opens the hydraulic system or includes fluid service. Harbor Freight’s HOLT pneumatic bleeder listing says the tool requires a separate air compressor, which is not included.
Seized rotor removal
No single Harbor Freight rotor-removal tool is established for every vehicle. If a rotor is stuck, use the vehicle’s service procedure; the rotor and hub design determine the appropriate removal method. Do not assume a generic hammer or puller is suitable.

Before driving after the repair
Reassemble according to the vehicle maker’s procedure. Harbor Freight’s Item 63264 manual says to press the brake pedal until firm and test the brakes before use, and warns: “Pressurize and test the brakes before use, refer to vehicle service manual for specific service procedures.” Follow the vehicle-specific service instructions for any additional checks.
