Ford’s announced supercharged 5.0-liter Coyote crate engine would make an enticing centerpiece for five very different Ford projects: a classic Mustang, an F-Series pickup, an early Bronco, a current Mustang, and a modern Ford truck. These are wishlist ideas—not confirmed applications. Ford has not published a list of compatible vehicles or established that these swaps are tested, approved, emissions-compliant, or straightforward.
Ford said in January 2025 that the engine is based on the Mustang Dark Horse Coyote and projected more than 800 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque. Those are Ford’s projections, not independently verified output figures. Ford’s announcement also called it street-legal and described an available two-year or 24,000-mile limited warranty; current terms and availability should be confirmed with Ford.
Five Ford models that would suit a supercharged Coyote
The appeal is the contrast: a modern, supercharged V8 in vehicles whose size, age, and intended use span half a century. The choices below are editorial wish-list concepts, not Ford-approved fitment recommendations.
1. Classic Mustang
A first-generation Mustang is the obvious match. The Coyote lineage already belongs to Mustang, while the compact shape and long hood make the idea easy to picture. The supercharged version would be a dramatic modern alternative to a period-correct restoration or a naturally aspirated small-block build.

The visual fit does not establish mechanical fit. A real conversion would require vehicle-specific planning for the engine installation, controls, fuel delivery, cooling, exhaust, transmission, and driveline, as well as a review of the rules that apply where the car will be registered and driven.
2. Classic F-Series pickup
A classic F-Series would turn the engine into a restomod centerpiece without asking the truck to pretend it is a modern performance car. The combination of a vintage work-truck silhouette and a high-output V8 has obvious appeal for a street-focused build.
That does not make it a simple drop-in. The truck’s chassis, intended use, and existing components would all affect the scope of a swap. Ford’s published fitment for other Coyote variants does not establish compatibility with a classic F-Series.

- EXPOSED DOHC V8 ARCHITECTURE: This model presents a V8 layout with two angled cylinder banks, four exposed overhead camshafts, dual timing-chain drives, a central intake section, and outward-facing exhaust headers. The open arrangement makes the major mechanical structures easy to identify before and during operation.
- PRECISION METAL CONSTRUCTION: Built from precision-cast and machined components in anodized aluminum and stainless steel. Defined surfaces, exposed fasteners, timing assemblies, and front pulleys reflect key structures found in modern V8 engine architecture while giving the completed model a detailed industrial finish.
- 500+ COMPONENT ASSEMBLY: Build the model from more than 500 labeled components, including precision metal parts, screws, and assembly hardware. Custom foam trays help organize and protect the parts, while the included tool set and full-color manual guide the approximately five-hour assembly process.
- MOTORIZED FOUR-STROKE MOTION: An electric motor concealed inside the starter housing drives the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, and valvetrain through a four-stroke mechanical sequence. Viewing openings reveal the internal movement, while the exposed camshafts, timing chains, and belt-driven pulleys show how motion is transferred across the assembled engine.
- MECHANICAL DISPLAY FOR HOME OR OFFICE: Measuring approximately 7.80 × 6.69 × 7.09 inches when assembled, the DM118 combines visible mechanical motion with detailed metal construction. Intended for ages 14 and above, it is suited to model builders, automotive enthusiasts, engineering fans, and hobbyists for display in a home, office, study, studio, or workshop. A metal gift box is included.
3. Early Bronco
An early Bronco offers a different kind of contrast: compact, open-air 4×4 proportions paired with a supercharged engine. It is an enticing concept for a carefully planned restomod, particularly for an owner who wants a distinctive road-going build rather than an untouched restoration.
Power alone is not a complete off-road specification. A finished vehicle would need a matched drivetrain and chassis setup, and the engine’s actual suitability would depend on the exact Bronco and the conversion parts selected. Ford has not stated that this engine is a direct fit for an early Bronco.
4. Current Mustang GT
A current Mustang GT is the most natural modern candidate, but the name “Coyote” does not make every Coyote crate engine interchangeable with every Mustang. Ford’s announced supercharged crate engine is based on the Dark Horse Coyote; the available fitment statements for other Gen 4 engines cannot be carried over to it.

Ford lists Gen 4 Aluminator naturally aspirated and supercharged engines as direct drops for 2024–2026 Mustang GT. That listing is specific to those Aluminator products, not proof of fitment for the newly announced supercharged crate engine.
5. Current Ford truck
A current Ford truck is a tempting final choice for someone drawn to the idea of a high-output Coyote in a modern pickup. It would be a striking alternative to an engine selected for towing, daily use, or factory-backed integration.

The sources do not establish which current truck models, if any, can accept the new engine, or what modifications and approvals would be needed. A prospective builder should start with the exact truck, engine part number, and intended road or competition use—not the broad label “Ford truck.”

What Ford has—and has not—announced
Ford’s January 30, 2025 announcement describes a supercharged 5.0-liter Coyote crate engine derived from the Mustang Dark Horse engine. Ford projected more than 800 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque, called it street-legal, and said an available limited warranty would cover two years or 24,000 miles. Confirm the current warranty language, eligibility, geography, and purchase terms directly with Ford before relying on them.
The announcement forecast that the supercharged Coyote and Megazilla 2.0 would be orderable through Ford dealers or Ford Performance Parts in Q4 2025. That was a historical forecast, not confirmation of present stock or orderability.
Megazilla 2.0 is a separate, supercharged 7.3-liter engine. Ford projected more than 1,000 horsepower for it and identified it for competition use; those figures and that designation do not describe the Coyote. Ford’s current Gen 4 Mustang crate-engine listing is another distinct product: a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter engine rated at 480 hp and 415 lb-ft. It should not be confused with the announced supercharged Coyote.

What a Coyote crate-engine project involves
A crate engine is only one part of a conversion. For a concrete example, Ford’s product page for the Gen 4 M-6007-M50D lists an engine harness and dual-mass flywheel as included, but says the vehicle harness and PCM are not included. The page separately references a control pack, alternator kit, A/C kit, and Mustang motor-mount kit. Those details apply to that listed engine, not automatically to the new supercharged Coyote or another Coyote variant.
The M-6007-M50D listing specifies a 5.0-liter, 32-valve DOHC V8 with direct and port fuel injection, Ti-VCT, 12.0:1 compression, and ratings of 480 hp at 7,150 rpm and 415 lb-ft at 4,900 rpm on premium fuel. Ford also notes that its driver-side exhaust flange uses a 5.2-liter pattern. Treat these as specifications for the M-6007-M50D only.
Before choosing an engine, verify the exact part number and application, the control and wiring requirements, what hardware is included, and whether the intended use is allowed under applicable emissions rules. Ford warns that using its listed engine in an unintended application may violate US or Canadian emissions laws. The label “street-legal” in an announcement should not be read as blanket approval for every engine swap, vehicle, or jurisdiction.

|---|---|---|---|
| M-6007-M50D | Naturally aspirated; 480 hp at 7,150 rpm and 415 lb-ft at 4,900 rpm on premium fuel; 12.0:1 compression | Mustang crate-engine listing; no fitment for the five wishlist vehicles is established | $12,650 on the accessed Ford Performance Parts page |
| M-6007-A50NAD, Gen 4 Aluminator NA | Naturally aspirated; 480 hp and 415 lb-ft; 12.0:1 compression; forged pistons and Manley H-beam rods | Direct drop-in for 2024–2026 Mustang GT, per Ford | $16,500 on the accessed Ford Performance Parts page |
| M-6007-A50SCD, Gen 4 Aluminator SC | Supercharged; Ford listing specifies 9.5:1 compression, forged pistons, and Manley H-beam rods; output figures not stated on the supplied product information | Direct drop-in for 2024–2026 Mustang GT, per Ford | $16,500 on the accessed Ford Performance Parts page |
Prices are the figures shown on Ford Performance Parts pages accessed in 2026; they can change and do not establish current inventory. Ford says vehicle harness and PCM are not included with the listed Aluminator engines, and exhaust manifolds are not included. These product-page details do not supply comparative installation costs, swap reliability data, or completed performance results.
Quick Recap
What to confirm before buying
- Exact engine: Get the complete part number and confirm whether it is the announced supercharged Coyote, a naturally aspirated Gen 4 crate engine, or an Aluminator variant.
- Application: Ask Ford or the seller to confirm the specific vehicle, model year, and required supporting parts. Do not treat fitment for a 2024–2026 Mustang GT as evidence for another vehicle.
- Controls and hardware: Check what is included and what must be sourced separately, especially the vehicle harness, PCM, control pack, mounts, and any application-specific components.
- Use and compliance: Establish whether the project is for public roads or competition and check applicable emissions requirements for the vehicle and location.
- Warranty and availability: Confirm the current warranty terms and whether the exact engine can be ordered now. The Q4 2025 timing was Ford’s earlier projection, not a live inventory statement.
