How to choose among the S5, TT, and Z4
Pick by body style and everyday needs
The BMW Z4 is the only convertible here, and it has two seats. The Audi candidates are coupes. Consider how many people you regularly carry, whether you want an open roof, and whether the car’s storage works for your routine. The cited price analysis does not provide cargo-capacity comparisons.

Compare the actual listings, not just the averages
Before choosing a model, compare cars with similar model years and equipment using their asking prices, mileage, trim, options, fees, and local availability. An average below $40,000 does not establish that a specific example fits your budget after taxes, fees, financing, optional equipment, or needed repairs.
Newer model years can exceed the cap in the same dataset: iSeeCars reports a $41,161 average for the 2022 Audi S5 and $42,781 for the 2023 Audi TT. Those figures do not rule out a lower-priced individual listing, but they are a reminder to check the model year and the car’s actual price.

Decide what matters on the road
Car and Driver’s comparison framework considers acceleration, handling, comfort, cargo space, fuel efficiency, value, and driving enjoyment, drawing on instrumented testing and editor impressions. Use those as questions for your own test drive rather than assuming a ranking settles the choice. Pay attention to how the car’s ride and controls suit your ordinary, legal driving.

A model’s name or overall score cannot show how a particular used car was maintained. Kelley Blue Book recommends avoiding very high-mileage or heavily modified examples and having a mechanic or inspection service check a used car that is not certified pre-owned.

- Review the car’s condition and history. Check the available records and look for signs of modifications or neglected maintenance. Have an independent mechanic inspect the car if it is not certified pre-owned.
- Test it on a suitable route. Assess acceleration, cornering, braking, seating position, comfort over uneven pavement, and whether the controls feel natural to you.
- Check transmission and brake feel. If the car has a manual transmission, check that the clutch and gearbox operate smoothly. The brake pedal should behave predictably.
- Recheck the total budget. Account for the specific asking price and applicable fees, plus any repairs identified during inspection; do not treat the reported market average as a quote.
Kelley Blue Book, citing Cox Automotive data, says high-performance and sports cars can lose as much as half their value in the first two or three years. The guide reviewed in 2026 does not specify the underlying data year, and this broad observation is not a depreciation forecast for any one model or proof that a particular used car is a bargain.
