Identify the exact 5.7L Hemi before shopping
“5.7 Hemi rebuild kit” describes a product category, not a universal fitment. Mopar’s wholesale product guide separates 5.7L offerings by year range, vehicle application, MDS status and engine sales code, and directs users to the electronic parts catalog to identify the correct part number. - Record the vehicle’s model year and exact application.
- Confirm the engine sales code and whether the engine has MDS.
- Check the applicable VVT configuration and, where relevant, BSG/eTorque notes.
- Verify the proposed kit’s fitment with the seller and the parts catalog before ordering.
Do not confuse a Chrysler/Dodge/Ram 5.7L Hemi listing with a GM/Chevrolet 5.7L 350 listing. The displacement number alone does not identify the engine family.
Choose the MDS or non-MDS kit path
MDS status can change which kit is appropriate. The available product listings illustrate the difference, but their stated coverage is not a complete fitment guide for every 5.7L Hemi.

Check what “master rebuild kit” actually includes
“Master kit” is not a standardized contents list. One Hemi Rebuild Kits listing for 2005–2008 MDS applications states that its kit includes a stock camshaft, pistons with rings, lifters, an oil pump, thrust washer, rod/main/cam bearings, head and lower gasket sets, and a timing set. Those are that seller’s stated contents for that listing—not a promise that every 5.7 Hemi master kit contains the same parts.

Before buying, compare the itemized contents against the actual rebuild plan. Check whether the listing includes:
- Pistons and rings, and whether the piston size is suitable after inspection and machining.
- Rod, main and cam bearings, with the available sizes confirmed.
- A camshaft and lifters, including compatibility with the engine’s MDS configuration.
- An oil pump, thrust washer and timing components.
- Head and lower gasket sets, and whether any separately required seals or fasteners are excluded.
Ask the seller to confirm the exact part numbers and exclusions for your engine. A kit title or “master” label is not enough to establish that the listed parts cover every component your rebuild requires.

Choose piston and bearing sizes after inspection
Do not select an oversize piston or undersize bearing from the vehicle year or a generic kit description. The product listings do not provide a complete sizing method, and Mopar’s application guide identifies parts by application rather than prescribing machining dimensions.
- Have the engine disassembled and inspected.
- Work with the machine shop to measure the block bores and crankshaft journals and determine whether machining is needed.
- Use those measurements and the machinist’s recommendations to select piston, ring and bearing dimensions.
- Confirm the selected dimensions and part numbers with the kit seller before placing the order.
Ordering before measurement risks receiving parts that do not match the finished block or crankshaft. If the final dimensions are not yet known, settle the application first but wait to finalize size-specific components until the machine work is determined.

Compare a rebuild kit with an OEM replacement engine
A rebuild kit supplies selected overhaul parts; it is not a complete replacement engine. If the goal is to replace rather than rebuild the engine, Mopar’s eStore provides a vehicle-specific catalog with service-part categories, including engine gasket kits, for a 2019 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi BSG application: 2019 Ram 1500 engine gasket kits.
