Several vehicles sold in the United States have been assembled in China, including the Buick Envision, Lincoln Nautilus, Volvo S90 and Polestar 2. The list is not a guarantee that all four were on sale in the U.S. on October 7, 2026: the sources document different model years and production periods. “Built in China” refers to final assembly, not the automaker’s nationality or ownership. For a specific vehicle, check its window sticker or certification label.
Four reported examples

What “built in China” means
It identifies where a vehicle was finally assembled. It does not make a Buick or Lincoln a Chinese brand, nor does it establish who owns or controls a marque. Assembly location can also differ between models from the same automaker and can change across production years.
Polestar illustrates why a model name alone may not settle the question: the company reports Polestar 3 production in both Chengdu, China, and Charleston, South Carolina. Volvo Cars has also said its South Carolina facility produces the EX90 and Polestar 3. A broad statement that every Polestar 3 is built in China would therefore be inaccurate. Volvo’s 2025 announcement described XC60 production in South Carolina as planned to start in late 2026; that dated plan does not verify the plant for a particular 2026-model-year vehicle.
How to check a specific car
- Read the window sticker. Look for the vehicle’s final-assembly or country-of-origin information.
- Check the certification label. The vehicle label can provide manufacturing details; compare it with the sticker if both are available.
- Use the VIN when needed. Decode it with an authoritative source, especially if the vehicle’s model year or production run may have more than one assembly location.
These checks matter because reporting about a model does not necessarily establish the origin of every vehicle carrying that nameplate. The 2025 Buick Envision is specifically identified as China-built, while the other examples have availability or vehicle-level qualifications in the sources cited.
