There is no objectively “best-sounding” Harley-Davidson slip-on: exhaust tone depends on the motorcycle, the rest of the exhaust system, and what the rider likes. Rider discussions and manufacturer descriptions point to four options worth comparing—Screamin’ Eagle Street Cannon, Rinehart, Vance & Hines, and Bassani—but they are not a measured ranking or a controlled sound test. Check exact fitment and road-use status before choosing.
How to compare Harley slip-on exhaust sound
Forum comments capture individual preferences, not a representative survey. No controlled comparison establishes how these four sound on the same Harley with matching headers, baffles, recording equipment, and riding conditions. Treat words such as “deep,” “throaty,” or “loud” as descriptions, not measured decibel levels.
The same muffler can sound different depending on the motorcycle model and engine, headers and catalysts, baffle configuration, and operating conditions. Before weighing a rider’s opinion, check whether their bike and exhaust setup resemble yours. Decide whether you want a bass-forward cruising rumble or a more pronounced note under acceleration; those are preference questions, not a claim that one option is universally louder or better.
Four slip-on options riders discuss
Screamin’ Eagle Street Cannon
Harley-Davidson describes its 4.5-inch Street Cannon muffler as producing a “rich exhaust note” and “deep bass rumble,” with a throaty sound under throttle. That is the manufacturer’s product description, not an independent listening test. The listed part number is 64900552A. Harley-Davidson specifies fitment for certain 2017–2025 Touring models, with exclusions that include later center-cooled models and Trikes. Confirm your exact motorcycle in the current product listing and fitment information.

The listing says separate muffler clamps are required and ECM calibration is required for the stated application. A Harley-Davidson Street Cannon installation document specifies two clamps and two gaskets for the kit it covers and advises owners without the right tools or ability to use a dealer. Match the instructions to the exact kit or part version you buy.
Rinehart
Harley-Davidson forum participants discuss Rinehart slip-ons and their preferred tone, including comparisons with Vance & Hines. Those accounts can help you understand what some owners like, but the available rider discussions do not establish a single current Rinehart model or fitment for every Harley. Identify the exact Rinehart part that fits your year and model before treating a rider’s sound impression as relevant to your bike. See the discussions at Harley-Davidson Forums’ Touring Models section and Harley-Davidson Forums.

Vance & Hines Straightshots HS
The Straightshots HS product page identifies a slip-on with full-coverage heat shields and PCX technology, and describes its intended exhaust note in promotional terms. Verify that the current fitment applies to your precise Harley model and year. Rider threads compare Vance & Hines and Rinehart, but do not provide a controlled sound test or establish that one brand sounds better for everyone; see Touring Models discussions.
Bassani
Bassani’s 1F745 product page lists 4.5-inch slip-on mufflers and application-specific fitment. Confirm that the part fits your exact bike rather than assuming all Bassani slip-ons are interchangeable. Bassani also warns that certain products are intended for closed-course competition or off-road use and may not be legal for public-road use on pollution-controlled motorcycles in relevant jurisdictions. That warning does not apply automatically to every Bassani product: check the exact product and your local rules.

What to check before buying
- Confirm the bike and part number. Check model family, year, and any exclusions in the manufacturer’s fitment listing. A brand name or similar-looking muffler is not proof of fit.
- Compare like with like. Note the other rider’s headers, catalysts, baffles, and other exhaust components. Differences can change the sound, so a clip or comment from a different setup may not predict yours.
- Check required hardware and calibration. Find out whether clamps, gaskets, or ECM calibration are required for the exact part and application. Account for installation instructions and your ability to follow them safely.
- Verify road-use rules. Check the product’s emissions and public-road-use status for your jurisdiction, particularly where a manufacturer flags a part as competition or off-road only.
- Listen for the kind of sound you want. Use rider descriptions as clues about preference—such as a bass-heavy cruising note or a stronger sound on throttle—not as a loudness measurement or universal verdict.
Which one should you choose?
Start with exact fitment and legal use, then narrow the choice by sound character and installation requirements. Street Cannon has a specific Harley-Davidson product description and stated Touring fitment, while the evidence for Rinehart is rider discussion without a model-specific manufacturer reference here. Straightshots HS is confirmed as a slip-on product, but fitment still needs checking. Bassani’s 1F745 listing is application-specific and its road-use warning must be checked against the exact product. None can be named the objectively best-sounding option on the available evidence.
