Brett LaSala said his Coyote-powered Ford Mustang, “Snot Rocket,” suffered a left-rear tire failure at 228 mph during FL2K eliminations at Bradenton Motorsports Park. The crash damaged the car’s quarter panel, door and rear bumper; LaSala said he was unhurt. The cause of the failure has not been confirmed.
What happened to Snot Rocket at FL2K?
In a report published October 4, 2026, Dragzine’s Andrew Wolf reported that LaSala’s Mustang lost its left-rear 275 radial tire during eliminations at FL2K. LaSala described the incident as his first race-car crash and said the tire came apart at 228 mph. Dragzine’s report quoted him saying, “[I] had my first race car crash today. [Left rear] tire came apart at 228 mph.”
The report says the failure tore away the quarter panel, door and rear bumper. LaSala said he was okay and that he would do everything possible to have the car repaired for World Cup. Dragzine did not cite an independent inspection or medical report.
How does 228 mph compare with the Mustang’s record pass?
The 228-mph figure is LaSala’s reported speed when the tire came apart. Earlier at the event, the Mustang ran 6.458 seconds at 233.44 mph. Dragzine described that earlier run as a new stick-shift world record. These are separate runs, not conflicting speeds for the crash.

Dragzine identified Snot Rocket as a Coyote-powered Mustang with a 302-cubic-inch Fast Forward Racing Engines engine making more than 3,000 horsepower.
What caused the tire failure?
The cause is unconfirmed. Dragzine said online observers thought they saw a possible foreign object enter the path of the left-rear tire shortly before it was cut down. That observation does not establish that debris caused the failure. The report said LaSala was unavailable for comment on the cause by publication time.
