For the cited Ford 3.0L Duratec 4V procedures, valve-cover fasteners are tightened to 10 N·m (89 lb-in) in the illustrated sequence for the specific vehicle and cover. The available text does not show the diagram’s bolt locations reliably, so use the service-manual illustration for your model year and left- or right-hand cover rather than guessing a pattern.
Torque specification for cited 3.0L Duratec applications
Ford service procedures for the 2010 and 2011 Escape 3.0L (4V) specify 10 N·m (89 lb-in) and direct the technician to follow the illustrated tightening sequence. A cited 2005 Maverick 3.0L Duratec-VE procedure gives the same torque value. These examples support the value for those applications; they do not establish that every 3.0L Duratec uses the same sequence diagram.

The 2010 Escape left-hand-cover figure identifies 14 numbered fastener positions, but the extracted text does not reveal their spatial order. The 2011 Escape procedure likewise refers to its shown sequence. The 2011 Escape 3.0L (4V) procedure calls for a new valve-cover gasket and specifies sealant only at designated joints: an 8 mm (0.31 in) dot at the cylinder-block-to-front-cover mating surface and at the cam-seal-retainer-to-cylinder-head joints. It directs that the fasteners be tightened within four minutes of applying the sealant. Confirm the sealant locations and timing in the manual for your own vehicle before installation.

- Identify the vehicle’s year, model, engine version, and the LH or RH cover being serviced.
- Open the applicable service procedure and locate that cover’s illustrated tightening sequence.
- Use a new gasket where the vehicle-specific procedure requires one; clean the specified sealing surfaces and apply sealant only at the joints identified by that procedure.
- Following the illustrated order, tighten the fasteners to 10 N·m (89 lb-in) for the cited applications. If your vehicle’s procedure specifies a different value or additional steps, follow that procedure instead.
