The 2027 Nissan Z NISMO is finally available with a six-speed manual, giving the 420-hp sports car the enthusiast-focused version many buyers wanted. In MotorTrend’s first test, it proved quick, grippy and capable under braking—but the outlet still judged the Mustang more polished and precise. The manual makes this the most convincing Z of this generation so far, in MotorTrend’s view, without making it feel like a thoroughly modern performance car.
What’s new about the 2027 Z NISMO manual?
For 2027, Nissan adds an available six-speed manual to the Z NISMO, alongside the existing nine-speed automatic. Nissan’s July 21, 2026 U.S. pricing announcement describes the manual as a response to popular demand and specifies a short-throw shifter, improved pressure plate and clutch. How much does the 2027 Nissan Z NISMO manual cost?
Nissan lists the 2027 Z NISMO at a U.S. MSRP of $67,260, plus $1,325 destination and handling. Nissan says the six-speed manual and nine-speed automatic have the same MSRP. That is the manufacturer’s stated price, not an out-the-door figure or a guarantee of a dealer’s transaction price. For context within Nissan’s U.S. lineup, the same announcement lists the 2027 Z Sport at $44,480 and the Performance at $54,480. MotorTrend’s test-specification table separately reports a $68,555 base price and $70,080 as tested for its manual test car. Those figures are MotorTrend’s reported test-car pricing; they are distinct from Nissan’s $67,260 MSRP announcement.
What did MotorTrend measure in its first test?
MotorTrend’s 2026 instrumented test of a manual Z NISMO recorded 0–60 mph in 4.7 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 13.2 seconds at 108.0 mph. It also recorded 107 feet to stop from 60 mph, 1.03 g of lateral acceleration and a figure-eight time of 24.2 seconds at an average 0.81 g. These are results for MotorTrend’s test car under its test conditions, not Nissan performance guarantees or predictions for every driver.

What hardware distinguishes the NISMO?
Nissan says every 2027 Z NISMO gets two-piece iron-aluminum rotors derived from the GT-R. The company claims they reduce unsprung weight by 19 pounds while increasing thermal capacity, and says enhanced cooling channels help lower temperatures during track use. Nissan’s trim specifications also identify 19-inch NISMO RAYS forged wheels, NISMO/Akebono brakes, NISMO aerodynamic bodywork and Recaro leather-appointed seats. These pieces help define the NISMO’s track-oriented equipment, but the presence of performance hardware does not by itself settle how polished the car feels on the road. Does the manual make the Z NISMO feel modern?
Not entirely, according to MotorTrend. The outlet calls the manual a major step forward from the standard Z and the most convincing version of this generation so far, praising its old-school character. At the same time, MotorTrend says the Mustang is the more polished, precise and complete performance machine, and describes the Z as feeling like an unusually well-sorted old car. That is MotorTrend’s review judgment, not a universal measurement or a claim of a same-day back-to-back instrumented comparison.

The distinction matters to buyers: the manual improves the kind of involvement the Z offers, but it does not erase the compromises that make the car feel older than a more refined rival. If your priority is a manual, high-output, rear-drive sports-car experience with NISMO-specific hardware, the new gearbox strengthens the case. If your priority is the broadest blend of precision and polish, MotorTrend’s verdict points toward the Mustang instead.

Nissan says both transmissions carry the same U.S. MSRP, so the choice is about driving preference rather than a factory price premium. The manual brings the shifter and clutch changes Nissan specifies; the automatic remains a nine-speed, with Nissan citing quicker shift response. Nissan does not establish equal dealer availability or transaction prices, so shoppers should confirm those locally.

MotorTrend’s published performance figures above come from its manual test car. They should not be used as a direct numerical comparison with the automatic, since the cited material does not provide a matching automatic test under the same conditions.
What tires were on MotorTrend’s test car?
MotorTrend lists Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 tires in 255/40R19 front and 285/35R19 rear sizes on its test car. This identifies that car’s reported fitment, not a universal replacement recommendation for every 2027 Z NISMO. Check the tire placard, owner’s information and exact vehicle fitment before buying replacements.
