Kia quotes up to 35 mpg combined for the EX front-wheel-drive hybrid, while AWD hybrid trims are rated at 31 mpg combined. The redesigned SUV also promises seating for up to seven and, with the right equipment, towing capacity of up to 4,500 pounds. Those are Kia specifications and estimates; independent Edmunds testing adds a useful acceleration comparison and a reminder that cargo capacity on paper does not guarantee a particular suitcase will fit.
What changed for the 2027 Telluride?
Kia’s March 10, 2026 overview describes a redesigned Telluride that is larger than the previous generation and introduces the model’s first available hybrid powertrain. Kia also says the redesign brings more headroom in the first and second rows, class-leading second-row legroom, easier third-row access and more cargo space behind the third row. The hybrid is a conventional hybrid, not a plug-in. Kia says regenerative braking captures energy during deceleration and braking and converts it into electric power for the battery, so drivers do not need to plug in. Kia’s Telluride Hybrid page
How much power does the hybrid make?
Kia specifies a turbocharged 2.5-liter hybrid system producing 329 horsepower and 339 lb.-ft. of torque. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent test results. For context, an AP-hosted comparison by Edmunds says the gas-powered Telluride has 274 horsepower and reached 60 mph in 8.1 seconds in Edmunds’ testing. Edmunds reports that both the Telluride and Palisade hybrids reached 60 mph in around seven seconds in its tests. What fuel economy does the Telluride Hybrid get?

Kia also advertises an estimated total driving range of 637 miles for the EX FWD. That is a manufacturer estimate for that configuration, not a promise of actual range. Fuel economy and range in use depend on driving conditions and other factors.
Can it work for a family?
Kia says the hybrid can seat up to seven and advertises easier third-row access and more cargo room behind the third row than before. Passenger count and comfort depend on the seating configuration and the people aboard, so check the exact vehicle and seat arrangement. For child seats, try installing the family’s own seats and confirm access to the row where they will be used.

Can luggage fit behind the third row?
Edmunds’ comparison says the Telluride has more cargo capacity behind the third row on paper, but its hard-sided luggage test found that the bags obstructed the liftgate. In the same comparison, the Palisade’s available power-sliding and reclining third row helped accommodate the test suitcases. That is a specific test, not proof that luggage will or will not fit for every household. Before choosing between a Telluride or Palisade, bring the stroller, suitcases or other bulky items you regularly carry and check liftgate clearance with the third row in use. How capable is it for towing and rougher conditions?
Kia advertises up to 4,500 pounds of towing capacity for the hybrid when equipped with the available hitch and self-leveling rear suspension. Kia also identifies available AWD terrain modes for Snow, Mud and Sand. Availability varies by trim, so check the equipment on the particular vehicle rather than assuming every hybrid has AWD or those modes.

- Drivetrain and fuel economy: Select FWD or AWD based on your needs, then use the matching EPA estimate above.
- Passenger and cargo fit: Test third-row access, child-seat installation and the actual luggage or stroller you carry.
- Towing equipment: Confirm the hitch, self-leveling rear suspension and vehicle-specific capacity for the configuration you are buying.
- Price and availability: Edmunds’ AP-hosted comparison reported a $40,735 base Telluride price including destination and an entry-hybrid premium of $7,300 over the regular model. What is the hybrid battery warranty?
Kia’s hybrid warranty page states that the Hybrid Powertrain Limited Warranty is 10 years or 100,000 miles and that the battery pack is covered by Kia’s Limited Warranty for 10 years or 100,000 miles.
