A camouflaged prototype may point to a major styling change for the 2027 Hyundai Santa Fe: spy photos appear to show vertical daytime running lights, headlights lower in the front bumper and rear lamps set farther outboard. Those are interpretations of a disguised test vehicle—not specifications confirmed by Hyundai.
What the spy photos appear to show
In a June 29, 2026 report, The Drive interpreted photos of a camouflaged road-going prototype as suggesting a move away from the Santa Fe’s familiar H-shaped lighting. The apparent details are provisional because camouflage obscures the bodywork and can distort how the vehicle’s shape reads.
Front: vertical running lights and lower headlights
The cut-outs at the front appear consistent with vertical daytime running lights, with the main headlights positioned lower in the bumper. The Drive also noted that the covering could conceal a changed hood line or a redesigned hood; the photos do not establish either detail.
Rear: lamps may move outside the tailgate
At the rear, the lights appear to sit farther outboard of the tailgate rather than in the bumper position associated with the current design. The disguise makes their exact placement and the surrounding shape uncertain, so this should be read as a visual impression, not a confirmed production layout.

A possible shift toward a more upright look
The Drive characterized the prototype’s appearance as more upright and possibly Palisade-like. That is the publication’s interpretation; Hyundai has not confirmed a Palisade design influence or a production change. The report forecast a debut later in fall 2026, but Hyundai has not announced a reveal date in the reviewed material.
How this differs from Hyundai’s current design description
Hyundai’s official U.S. 2027 Santa Fe page continues to promote the H-shaped lighting signature. Its Canadian 2027 page also describes H-shaped exterior elements and cautions that the shown 2024 model may differ from the 2027 production model. These pages do not confirm whether the prototype’s apparent changes will reach production or whether styling will differ between markets.

The H motif has been part of the fifth-generation Santa Fe’s design story since its introduction. In its July 18, 2023 announcement, Hyundai said the H-shaped headlamps and taillights harmonized the front and rear. The company also described a design built around a larger tailgate, cargo capacity, and both outdoor and urban use. That context explains why a departure from the motif would be noticeable, but it does not identify the camouflaged vehicle’s final design.

What is—and is not—confirmed
- Reported from the prototype: the spy photos appear to show vertical running lights, lower-mounted headlights and rear lamps shifted outward.
- Still uncertain: the final hood, bumper and lamp designs, because the vehicle is disguised.
- Not confirmed by Hyundai: that the apparent lighting changes will appear on the production 2027 Santa Fe, or that they will apply in the U.S. and Canada.
- Official pages: Hyundai’s reviewed U.S. and Canadian 2027 pages still describe H-shaped lighting; the Canadian page separately warns that its pictured 2024 model may differ from the 2027 production vehicle.
