The 2027 Honda HR-V is the lower-cost, smaller crossover; the CR-V costs more but offers substantially more published cargo capacity and a hybrid option. Honda lists starting MSRPs of $26,600 for the HR-V, $31,520 for the gasoline CR-V and $36,030 for the CR-V Hybrid. The right choice depends on whether the HR-V’s lower entry price meets your space needs or you value the CR-V’s extra room and powertrain choice.
2027 starting price and fuel economy
Honda’s current U.S. lineup lists these starting MSRPs and city/highway fuel-economy ratings. They are manufacturer-published figures, not local dealer quotes or real-world test results; ratings vary by trim and drivetrain. Honda’s lineup page also lists 2026 models as previous-year vehicles, so compare the same model year when shopping.

For context, the same Honda listing shows 2026 starting MSRPs of $26,500 for the HR-V, $30,920 for the CR-V and $35,630 for the CR-V Hybrid. Those are previous-model-year figures, not the 2027 prices above. MSRP is a starting point, not the final out-the-door amount; taxes, fees, dealer pricing and chosen equipment affect what you pay.
Which one has more cargo space?
The published figures available here favor the CR-V, but they are not a strict same-model-year comparison: Honda’s HR-V page is current for 2027, while the detailed CR-V cargo specifications are for 2026.

Honda says the HR-V’s 60/40 split second-row seat folds to make room for longer or larger items. The CR-V numbers come from Honda’s 2026 CR-V specifications; the HR-V figure and seat description are on Honda’s current HR-V page. Because the source pages do not align to the same model year, use these figures to understand the published space difference, not as a fully year-matched test.
Honda’s 2026 CR-V specifications list passenger volume of 106.0 cubic feet for one trim and 103.5 cubic feet for the others. The cited HR-V material does not provide an aligned passenger-volume figure, so these sources do not establish a precise passenger-space comparison between the two.

Powertrains, MPG and all-wheel drive
The CR-V lineup includes gasoline and hybrid choices. Honda’s 2026 CR-V specifications list 190 horsepower for gasoline models and 204 total system horsepower for hybrid models. The same specifications report the following hybrid EPA ratings by drivetrain:
- Hybrid 2WD: 43 city, 36 highway and 40 combined mpg.
- Hybrid AWD: 40 city, 34 highway and 37 combined mpg.
Honda’s current lineup lists the 2027 CR-V Hybrid at 43/36 city/highway mpg. The detailed 2026 trim specifications and the current 2027 listing differ in model year and level of detail, so don’t treat one rating as applying to every CR-V Hybrid trim or drivetrain. Gasoline CR-V ratings also vary by drivetrain. EPA ratings are standardized estimates; your actual fuel use depends on driving and conditions.

Honda lists Real Time AWD as available for both crossovers in model information. Availability and standard equipment depend on model year and trim, so confirm the exact configuration on the vehicle you are considering. The information cited here does not establish a complete same-year HR-V engine or fuel-economy comparison, and it does not support treating a hybrid HR-V as part of the U.S. lineup.

That depends on what the added price buys you in the trim you would actually choose. The 2027 gasoline CR-V starts $4,920 above the HR-V; the 2027 CR-V Hybrid starts $9,430 above it. Honda’s published cargo figures show materially more room in the CR-V, and the CR-V offers a hybrid powertrain. Those are useful reasons to consider it if cargo flexibility or a hybrid matters to you. They do not, by themselves, establish which vehicle is the better value for every buyer.

Compare the same model year and the actual trim equipment before deciding. Request an out-the-door quote for each configuration, and weigh the price against the cargo space, desired powertrain, AWD availability and features you will use. The starting MSRP alone cannot tell you the difference between two specific dealer offers.
How to choose between the HR-V and CR-V
- Choose the HR-V if its lower starting MSRP is the priority and its published cargo capacity suits your regular passengers and gear.
- Consider the CR-V if you need more cargo room or want a hybrid option; compare gasoline and hybrid trims using their own prices and ratings.
- Check the exact trim if AWD matters. Availability and standard equipment can vary.
- Compare like with like. Match model year, drivetrain and equipment, then compare dealer out-the-door quotes rather than relying only on base MSRPs.
Accessories and fitment
Honda describes HR-V all-season floor mats, a cargo cover, cargo tray and seatback protectors. Its 2026 CR-V accessories brochure lists items including all-season floor mats, a cargo tray, crossbars, a roof box, a bike attachment and a cargo cover. Confirm compatibility with the precise model year and trim before ordering. Honda’s brochure says accessories installed at the time of new-vehicle purchase are covered for three years or 36,000 miles; that condition should not be assumed to cover aftermarket products or accessories bought separately. Honda’s 2026 CR-V accessories brochure provides the listed products and warranty condition.
