2027 Chevrolet Bolt: Faster NACS Charging, LT and RS Trims Explained

The teased next-generation Chevy Bolt is now the 2027 Bolt: native NACS, 150 kW+ DC charging, a 25-minute 10%-80% claim and LT/RS trims—not a confirmed multi-model Bolt family.

The next-generation Chevrolet Bolt is no longer just a GM teaser. The 2027 Bolt is now available with standard NACS charging, a claimed 25-minute 10%-to-80% DC charge and an EPA-estimated 262 miles of range—but its lineup is multiple trims, not multiple confirmed Bolt models.

GM’s teaser has become a real, on-sale vehicle: the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt. Its meaningful upgrades are a standard native NACS charge port, DC fast charging rated at 150 kW or more at compatible stations, and a Chevrolet claim of 10% to 80% charging in about 25 minutes. Chevrolet also lists an EPA-estimated 262 miles of range. The important correction to the original teaser framing is that Chevrolet has confirmed multiple trims—LT and RS—not a broad family of distinct Bolt models or body styles.

What the revived Bolt actually delivers

The new Bolt is aimed at the part of the EV market where the first-generation car was strongest: a relatively attainable hatchback with practical range. Chevrolet says it is available in the United States, and GM describes it as a limited-run model built at Fairfax Assembly in Kansas City, Kansas.

Item Confirmed 2027 Bolt information
Range EPA-estimated 262 miles
DC fast charging Up to 150 kW+ at compatible public chargers
Fast-charge claim 10% to 80% in 25 minutes, according to Chevrolet
Charge-port standard Native NACS port
Battery chemistry Lithium iron phosphate (LFP)
Trims LT and RS
Current listed starting MSRP $28,995 for the LT, including destination

Those charging and range numbers should be read as manufacturer figures, not a promise for every trip. DC charging depends on the station’s output, the battery’s starting state of charge and temperature, the vehicle’s battery condition and settings, and ambient weather. A 150 kW-capable car connected to a lower-output, shared, faulty, inaccessible, or incompatible charger will not necessarily charge at that rate.

Why the charging change matters

The original Bolt was useful but not a particularly fast road-trip charging car. The 2027 model’s 150 kW+ rating and approximately 25-minute 10%-to-80% claim are therefore more consequential than a modest equipment update. For many drivers, a roughly 25-minute mid-trip stop is much easier to plan around than the longer stops associated with earlier affordable EVs.

There is a small but useful distinction in GM’s published numbers. An earlier production announcement referenced a pre-final target of 10% to 80% in 26 minutes and a GM-estimated 255 miles of range. Chevrolet’s current consumer information says 25 minutes and an EPA-estimated 262 miles. For a current buyer guide, the latter are the appropriate figures; the change should not be treated as independent real-world testing.

GM attributes the faster charging capability in part to LFP battery chemistry, its first LFP application in North America. The company also says the Bolt shares motor and power-electronics hardware with the Chevrolet Equinox EV. Those are GM’s engineering explanations, not a substitute for third-party charging tests, but they explain why this Bolt is not simply the old car returned to production.

NACS is convenient, not universal access

The Bolt has a native NACS inlet as standard equipment. That makes it compatible with applicable NACS public charging infrastructure, including compatible Tesla Superchargers, without treating the car as a legacy CCS-only vehicle. It is a major usability improvement because the charging network a driver can realistically use matters as much as the vehicle’s peak charging number.

But “NACS” is not a blanket guarantee that every plug works everywhere. Access can vary by charging network, station hardware, account requirements, software support and the vehicle/adapter combination. Chevrolet says GM Energy NACS adapters are available to buy. Owners should use the vehicle’s current charging guidance and confirm access in the relevant charging-network app before relying on a station during a trip.

For a Bolt owner seeking a physical accessory, the relevant item is a NACS-to-CCS DC fast-charging adapter only when it is explicitly approved for the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt and the intended network. It is not the same product as a NACS-to-J1772 adapter, which serves a different charging purpose. Do not assume a generic adapter is safe or supported simply because its connectors appear to fit.

“Multiple models” needs a precise update

GM’s early revival announcement in July 2023 did not provide final timing or specifications. An October 2024 Investor Day presentation then pointed to a late-2025 arrival for the next-generation Bolt EV. GM formally introduced the 2027 Bolt in October 2025, with final specifications updated in January 2026.

That sequence explains the original “multiple models” speculation, but it does not confirm a multi-vehicle Bolt lineup. Chevrolet has announced an LT and, for the first time, a Bolt RS trim. These are trim choices on the Bolt rather than separately confirmed sedan, SUV, crossover or other body-style models. Readers shopping now should judge the vehicle on the announced LT/RS lineup rather than wait on an unannounced Bolt family.

Price, trims and cabin technology

GM initially announced a launch-model MSRP of $29,990 including destination. A later LT was listed at $28,995 including destination, and Chevrolet’s live consumer page lists the Bolt LT at $28,995. That figure excludes taxes, title, license, dealer fees, options and any dealer-set transaction price. Because pricing and availability can change by region and during a model year, buyers should treat it as a date-sensitive starting point, not an out-the-door price.

Across the announced offering, Chevrolet has disclosed an 11.3-inch center infotainment display, an 11-inch driver display, more than 20 standard safety and driver-assistance features, available Super Cruise and vehicle-to-home capability. “Available” is doing real work here: Super Cruise is not standard equipment, and Chevrolet presents it as driver-assistance technology—not autonomous driving. Prospective buyers should confirm whether a specific VIN, trim and option package includes it.

Vehicle-to-home power has important conditions

The Bolt is bidirectionally capable, but that does not mean a buyer can simply plug the car into a house during an outage. GM says vehicle-to-home operation requires a properly equipped bidirectional GM EV, a GM Energy PowerShift Charger, a V2H Enablement Kit, a properly equipped home and proper grid interconnection.

Installation and electrical work are part of the ownership decision, not an afterthought. GM also warns that external factors can interrupt power and says the system is not recommended for medical devices. Anyone considering V2H for backup power should have a qualified installer evaluate the home, utility requirements and essential-load plan before treating the Bolt as emergency-power equipment.

Who the 2027 Bolt suits

The new Bolt makes the strongest case for drivers who want an EV with a lower entry price, useful everyday range and substantially more workable public fast charging than the previous Bolt. Native NACS support reduces one source of charging friction, while the 25-minute manufacturer charging claim makes occasional highway trips more realistic.

It is less compelling for a buyer who assumes every DC charger will be available at full speed, needs a confirmed larger Bolt body style, or expects turnkey whole-home backup without charging equipment and electrical upgrades. In those cases, charger planning, exact trim content and home-installation costs deserve as much scrutiny as the headline range figure.

Before placing an order

  • Check the exact LT or RS configuration, equipment and local inventory rather than assuming features are standard.
  • Confirm the current MSRP, destination charge, incentives, dealer fees and transaction price separately.
  • Map frequent routes in the relevant charging-network apps and verify station compatibility.
  • If buying a DC charging adapter, verify explicit 2027 Bolt approval and the intended network; do not substitute a J1772 adapter.
  • If V2H is a purchase reason, price the GM Energy equipment, installation and required home electrical work before committing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast does the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt charge?

Chevrolet says the 2027 Bolt can charge from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes at compatible public DC fast chargers and is capable of up to 150 kW+. Actual results vary with the charger, battery temperature and state of charge, weather, battery condition and other factors.

Has GM confirmed multiple new Bolt models?

No. Chevrolet has confirmed LT and RS trims, but not separate Bolt body styles or a defined future Bolt family. “Multiple models” is best understood as multiple trims unless GM announces more vehicles.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can the 2027 Bolt use Tesla Superchargers?

The Bolt has a standard native NACS port and can use applicable NACS charging infrastructure, including compatible Tesla Superchargers. Charger access and hardware support vary, so check the network app and vehicle guidance before a trip.

Can the 2027 Bolt power a home during an outage?

It is bidirectionally capable, but V2H requires compatible GM Energy equipment, a properly equipped home and proper grid interconnection. GM warns that external factors can interrupt power and does not recommend the system for medical devices.

The Bottom Line

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt delivers on the central promise behind GM’s teaser: faster public charging and native NACS access in an affordable EV. Just keep the claims precise—this is a two-trim Bolt lineup, charging performance depends on real conditions, and vehicle-to-home backup requires a properly equipped installation.
