How much does the 2027 BMW i3 50 xDrive cost?
BMW’s announced U.S. base MSRP for the 2027 i3 50 xDrive is $61,500. The 2027 gasoline M350 xDrive starts at $65,900, making the i3 $4,400 less before destination. BMW lists a $1,350 destination and handling charge for both, so the difference remains $4,400 when that common fee is added.

These are announced prices from BMW, not a comparison of transaction prices, options, taxes, or total ownership costs. The $4,400 difference applies specifically to the M350 xDrive: BMW’s gasoline 330 starts at $49,900 and the 330 xDrive at $51,900, before the same destination charge. The i3 therefore does not undercut every gasoline 3 Series. BMW Group’s U.S. announcement does not establish a broader EV-versus-gas price-parity trend or fuel savings.
How do the i3 and M350 xDrive compare?
The i3 50 xDrive is fully electric, while the M350 xDrive is gasoline-powered. BMW describes the i3 as the first fully electric 3 Series and says it uses the Neue Klasse architecture. Because the models use different architectures, BMW says some dimensions and wheelbase measurements vary; they are related by name and segment, not identical vehicles with different powertrains.

BMW reports these specifications; they are manufacturer figures, not independent test results. The i3 has the higher stated horsepower, while BMW’s stated acceleration time is quicker for the M350. BMW did not include an M350 torque figure in the cited announcement.
How many miles can the i3 add in 10 minutes?
BMW says the i3 can add 191–208 miles in 10 minutes when connected to an 800V DC fast-charging station. The car’s maximum DC charging power is stated as 400 kW. The range added depends on charging conditions, so 208 miles is the top of BMW’s stated range, not an outcome every driver should expect from every ten-minute session.

BMW estimates the i3’s driving range at 446–468 miles. That estimate is based on preliminary BMW AG testing using EPA test procedures; it is not a final EPA rating or a promise of real-world range. Driving conditions, vehicle configuration, and charging circumstances can affect results.
What charging options does BMW describe?
BMW says the i3 supports AC charging up to 15.4 kW, in addition to its stated DC fast-charging capability. The 400 kW figure is the maximum for DC fast charging; it is not a home AC charging rate. BMW also describes bidirectional charging, including Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Home uses such as home backup. Those functions depend on the relevant equipment, and the announcement does not identify or validate a particular home charger, connector, or installation.

When does the 2027 BMW i3 go on sale in the U.S.?
BMW says the U.S. launch of the i3 50 xDrive and the announced gasoline models is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2027. The pricing and specifications above are from BMW’s announcement dated September 29, 2026; availability and final production details may be subject to change.

Jochen Goller, BMW AG board member responsible for Customer, Brands and Sales, called the i3 “a hugely significant car for the BMW Group,” describing it as a fully electric model in a high-volume segment. That is BMW’s own positioning, rather than an independent assessment of the car.
