The 2026 Volvo XC60 gets a larger touchscreen, a new infotainment platform, and small design and cabin revisions. Those changes may improve the experience, but Volvo’s announcement alone cannot show whether they address the XC60’s most important shortcomings—or whether the update was the one buyers needed.
What changed on the 2026 Volvo XC60?
Volvo’s February 18, 2025 international announcement describes a refresh focused on user experience, design, and comfort—not a full redesign. The headline change is an 11.2-inch central touchscreen, replacing the smaller outgoing display. Volvo says the new screen has 21 percent higher pixel density than before. Volvo’s international announcement and its U.S. announcement detail the changes.
Infotainment and screen
The updated system uses Qualcomm Technologies’ next-generation Snapdragon Cockpit Platform and a revised interface with Google services. Volvo claims the system is more than twice as fast as the outgoing infotainment system, with graphics generation up to ten times faster. Those are the automaker’s claims, not independent measurements or a road-test finding. The announcements do not establish how much more responsive the system feels in everyday use.
Cabin and exterior
Volvo lists new cupholders, smart storage, an improved wireless phone charger, fresh interior decor and inlays, and upholstery options including Quilted Nordico and Navy Herringbone Weave. Exterior revisions include a changed air intake, new wheel designs, and darker rear lights. The international announcement also names Forest Lake and Aurora Silver paint, and says Mulberry Red is offered on the XC60 for the first time. Paint, trim, and equipment availability can vary by market.

Is this a full redesign?
No. Volvo describes a refresh centered on technology, styling, and comfort. Its announcement does not present the 2026 XC60 as a new-generation vehicle. It also does not announce a powertrain revision; that is not proof that every mechanical specification is unchanged from the prior model year.
What does the 2026 XC60 cost in the U.S.?
Volvo’s current U.S. model pages list these starting prices and powertrain figures. Prices and vehicle availability can change, so confirm them on the live listings before buying.

These figures are from Volvo’s current U.S. listings for the XC60 B5 and XC60 T8 plug-in hybrid. EPA estimates are not guarantees; actual fuel economy and electric range vary with conditions and use. They provide current U.S. shopping context, not a year-over-year comparison proving that the powertrains changed or stayed the same.
Does the update address what the XC60 needed?
That judgment depends on which shortcoming matters. Volvo’s materials establish what the company changed and how it describes the improvements; they do not establish that these were buyers’ highest-priority needs. The available evidence also does not show that the interface remains problematic, that a specific mechanical or usability issue was neglected, or that a rival solves it better.

So the case that this was “not the update it needed” is an editorial judgment, not a conclusion demonstrated by the manufacturer’s release. The most defensible criticism is narrower: Volvo has announced a technology- and comfort-focused refresh, but the announcement does not provide independent evidence that the new system fixes earlier usability concerns or that the refresh addresses any particular unmet need. A firmer verdict would require independent testing and evidence tied to the specific problem being claimed.

Volvo’s U.S. announcement said around 2.5 million customers globally, including owners of cars built as early as 2020, were targeted for an over-the-air update to the new user experience. That was a planned, eligibility-qualified rollout—not confirmation that every older XC60 is compatible or has received it. Check with Volvo for model-specific eligibility and rollout status.
