The 2026 Toyota RAV4 is an all-new, electrified-only U.S. compact SUV. Hybrid models start at $31,900, while Plug-in Hybrid models start at $41,500 and offer 324 horsepower, standard AWD, and up to 54 EPA-estimated electric miles for the SE.
The 2026 Toyota RAV4 is an all-new sixth-generation compact SUV, and every U.S.-market version is electrified. Buyers now choose between a conventional Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV); there is no gasoline-only RAV4 in the 2026 U.S. lineup.

Hybrid models start at $31,900 for the LE, while the PHEV lineup starts at $41,500 for the SE. The PHEV is the performance choice, with 324 net combined horsepower, standard all-wheel drive, and up to a Toyota-listed 54 miles of EPA-estimated electric range for the SE. The regular Hybrid remains the value and efficiency choice, with Toyota showing up to 47 city/40 highway MPG for qualifying configurations.

What is new for the 2026 RAV4?
The 2026 model is a complete sixth-generation redesign rather than a routine equipment update. Toyota has reorganized the range around three visual and lifestyle themes:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Core: LE, XLE Premium, and Limited.
- Rugged: Woodland.
- Sport: SE, XSE, and the new GR SPORT PHEV.
The exterior adopts Toyota’s current hammerhead-style front design, a contoured hood, angular fenders, and a more upright SUV profile. The grades are intentionally differentiated, so a photo of an XSE, Woodland, or GR SPORT should not be treated as representative of every RAV4.
The other major change is what is under the hood. Toyota has eliminated the gasoline-only U.S. model. Hybrid versions can be configured with front-wheel drive or electronic on-demand AWD depending on grade, while every PHEV has AWD standard. The redesigned RAV4 also introduces Toyota’s Arene software development platform, Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, and a new Toyota Audio Multimedia system. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is standard across the lineup; multimedia displays are 10.5 inches in standard configurations, with a 12.9-inch screen available depending on grade and equipment. Toyota’s launch materials provide the system and equipment details.
2026 RAV4 Hybrid vs. Plug-in Hybrid
| Feature | Hybrid | Plug-in Hybrid |
|---|---|---|
| Engine and system | 2.5-liter four-cylinder with Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system | Hybrid system with a larger externally chargeable battery |
| Net combined output | 226 hp with FWD; 236 hp with AWD | 324 hp |
| Drive configuration | FWD or electronic on-demand AWD, depending on grade | AWD standard |
| Electric charging | Not externally chargeable | Can be charged from an external power source |
| Electric range | Not rated as a plug-in electric range vehicle | Up to 54 EPA-estimated electric miles for the SE |
| Best fit | Lower purchase price, simple ownership, and strong fuel economy | Frequent short electric trips plus stronger acceleration |
Hybrid powertrain
The conventional Hybrid uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system. Toyota rates it at 226 net combined horsepower with FWD and 236 net combined horsepower with AWD. Toyota’s model-year material lists 163 lb.-ft. of engine torque and 153 lb.-ft. of MG2 electric-motor torque. The Hybrid is the logical starting point for buyers who want the efficiency benefits of electrification without planning around a charging routine.
Do not assume that the least expensive trim, the most efficient trim, and the AWD trim are the same vehicle. Toyota’s consumer page shows the best estimate as 47 city/40 highway MPG, but Woodland is listed at 41 city/35 highway and the XSE and Limited at 43 city/37 highway. Wheels, tires, drivetrain, and other equipment affect the result.

- WOOD CAR FRESHENERS: Drift car air fresheners are made to uproot your typical air freshener. We've combined sophisticated, functional design with real, designer and luxury grade scents.
- MADE IN THE USA: Our wood freshener is made right here in the USA from sustainably sourced wood, and magnetized to fit perfectly on your car visor with our metal clip. Our Teak scent has notes of teakwood, amber and cedar atlas.
- LONG LASTING: Crafted with our natural essential and fragrance oil blends to deliver a great scent free of harmful chemicals all day. Looks good, smells good, all good.
- SIMPLE DESIGN: Attach metal clip to visor so the ledge faces down when closed. Open one side of bag until scent dissipates and freshener doesn't have any visible oil on surface. Attach the scent block to the clip, it will magnetically snap in, make sure there is no overhang on either side of the clip.
- Enjoy fresh scent for up to 30 days with each freshener. Actual scent duration will vary based on ambient temperature and conditions inside the vehicle.
Plug-in Hybrid powertrain
The PHEV combines a larger battery with standard AWD and produces 324 net combined horsepower. Toyota advertises a 5.4-second 0-to-60-mph time on its PHEV product page. That is a manufacturer-published claim, not an independent test result, and acceleration can vary with conditions and vehicle configuration.
The most important functional difference is the ability to charge the battery from outside the vehicle. Toyota lists up to 54 miles of EPA-estimated all-electric range for the SE on its current PHEV page. Earlier launch material described approximately 50 miles as a manufacturer estimate, so the current EPA-estimated figure is the more appropriate number for current shopping information. The exact range displayed on a window sticker can vary by trim and equipment.
Toyota says the PHEV XSE and Woodland support DC fast charging from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. Charging time is affected by weather and other conditions, and the capability applies to those specified grades rather than automatically to every PHEV configuration. See Toyota’s current RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid page for the manufacturer’s range and performance claims.
Fuel economy, towing, and cargo capacity
Toyota advertises up to 47 city/40 highway MPG for qualifying Hybrid configurations. The number belongs to the particular grade and drivetrain shown by Toyota, not to every 2026 RAV4. PHEV fuel-economy and electric-range results should likewise be read from the specific EPA label because the way a PHEV is used—charged regularly or driven mostly after the battery’s charge is depleted—has a substantial effect on real-world energy and fuel consumption.
Toyota advertises up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity and up to 37.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. With the rear seats folded, Toyota’s sales consultant guide reports 70.4 cubic feet behind the first row. These are useful maximum or headline figures, but they do not mean every grade has identical towing hardware or cargo-related equipment.
For a particular RAV4, check the window sticker, owner’s manual, tow-equipment specification, and vehicle-specific load limits. Trailer weight, tongue weight, passengers, luggage, roof cargo, and accessories all matter. The Toyota sales consultant guide is the source for the published dimensions and packaging figures.
Dimensions and passenger space
| Dimension | Most grades | Woodland | GR SPORT |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wheelbase | 105.9 inches | ||
| Overall length | 181.0 inches | 182.0 inches | 182.9 inches |
| Overall width | 73.0 inches | 74.0 inches | 74.0 inches |
| Ground clearance | 8.1 inches | 8.5 inches | 7.5 inches |
Published interior dimensions include 41.0 inches of front legroom, 37.8 inches of rear legroom, 57.0 inches of front shoulder room, and 56.4 inches of rear shoulder room. Those numbers support describing the RAV4 as a practical five-passenger compact SUV, but measurements cannot predict how comfortable every occupant will find the seats or rear cabin.

Trim guide: which 2026 RAV4 makes sense?
RAV4 LE Hybrid: the price-and-efficiency anchor
At $31,900, the LE is the least expensive way into the redesigned RAV4. Its 47/40 MPG estimate makes it the natural value reference point. It is best for buyers who prioritize purchase price and efficiency over appearance upgrades and premium convenience equipment. Before calling it the “best” trim, compare its actual standard equipment with the features you require.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →RAV4 SE Hybrid or PHEV: sport styling at two price levels
The Hybrid SE starts at $34,700 and is the first sport-themed grade in the conventional lineup. It suits shoppers who want darker wheels and sport-oriented styling without moving to the higher-priced XSE. The SE is also the entry point to the PHEV lineup at $41,500, making it the logical comparison for buyers deciding whether electric range and stronger performance justify the price increase.
RAV4 XLE Premium Hybrid: the comfort middle ground
The $36,100 XLE Premium is aimed at buyers who want more comfort and convenience equipment than the entry grades without paying Limited or XSE money. Its exact feature content depends on configuration, so verify the window sticker rather than assuming that a feature shown in a high-grade photograph is included.
RAV4 Woodland Hybrid or PHEV: the outdoor-oriented choice
The Hybrid Woodland starts at $39,900, while the PHEV Woodland starts at $45,300. This is the grade to investigate for camping, roof cargo, outdoor accessories, and towing-oriented use. The Hybrid Woodland’s 8.5 inches of listed ground clearance is higher than the 8.1 inches shown for most other grades. That does not turn the RAV4 into a dedicated off-road vehicle, and towing capability still depends on the exact configuration.
RAV4 XSE Hybrid or PHEV: sport appearance with more equipment
The Hybrid XSE starts at $41,300. It is a fit for shoppers who want sport styling and additional equipment while retaining the conventional Hybrid powertrain. The PHEV XSE starts at $47,200 and adds the PHEV’s 324-hp system, standard AWD, electric driving capability, and Toyota-listed DC fast-charging support.

At $43,300, Limited is the highest-priced conventional Hybrid trim. Its case is equipment and refinement rather than extra performance. Buyers comparing it with a similarly priced PHEV should decide first whether premium Hybrid equipment or plug-in capability is more valuable for their driving pattern.
RAV4 GR SPORT PHEV: the performance flagship
The new GR SPORT is the most expensive listed RAV4 at $48,500 before fees and options. It uses the 324-hp PHEV system and has the sport theme’s longest and widest listed body dimensions. Toyota’s 5.4-second acceleration claim gives it a strong performance story, but it should remain clearly identified as a Toyota claim rather than an independent test result.

Safety and technology
Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 is standard across the 2026 RAV4 lineup. Toyota highlights updated detection capabilities for systems including Pre-Collision Detection and Lane Tracing Assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also identified in Toyota’s launch material.
Depending on grade and package, the technology list includes:
Recommended Free Tools
- 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster standard on every grade.
- 10.5-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia display in listed standard configurations.
- Available 12.9-inch multimedia display.
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto compatibility.
- Available Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging.
- Available nine-speaker JBL premium audio.
- Available heated and ventilated front seats, depending on grade.
- Standard LED headlights with automatic high beams.
“Available” is important here: multimedia screens, JBL audio, wireless charging, and seat features are trim- or package-dependent. Confirm the exact equipment on the build sheet or window sticker for the RAV4 you are considering. Toyota’s official safety and technology announcement describes the standard driver-assistance equipment.
2026 Toyota RAV4 photos and exterior design
Toyota’s official imagery shows the redesigned RAV4’s hammerhead-style front end, contoured hood, angular fenders, and upright proportions. The official Toyota newsroom debut gallery and Toyota consumer model pages are the appropriate places to view current grade-specific photos.
When publishing or captioning a photo, identify the grade whenever Toyota provides that information. Also distinguish Hybrid from PHEV imagery. Wheels, grilles, bumpers, roof treatments, interior colors, and paint colors shown in a promotional image may be optional, grade-specific, or unavailable in a particular region. Do not use one XSE or GR SPORT image as though it depicts the LE, Woodland, Limited, and every PHEV configuration.
Useful 2026 RAV4 ownership accessories
A full redesign makes fitment more important than usual. The 2026 RAV4 may not share floor dimensions, attachment points, or cargo-area contours with the 2025 model, so buyers should not assume that an older accessory fits simply because the product name says “RAV4.” Toyota’s current accessory catalog lists the following official starting prices: All-Weather Floor Liners, $199; Carpet Floor Mats, $199; Cargo Liner, $140; Carpet Cargo Mat, $140; and Low Profile Cross Bars, $320. It also lists roof baskets, Thule equipment, screen protection, emergency kits, storage products, towing products, and camping gear. See the 2026 RAV4 accessory catalog for current availability and pricing.
For shoppers comparing aftermarket options, 2026 Toyota RAV4 floor mats are the most practical starting search. Before ordering, verify the 2026 model year, body style, trim, and Hybrid-versus-PHEV fitment. Check whether the listing is for front and rear rows, whether the mat uses the factory retention points, and whether the cargo-floor configuration matches your vehicle. Inventory, seller quality, and fitment claims on marketplaces can change, so confirm those details immediately before purchase.
A cargo liner is a natural second purchase for families, pet owners, campers, and anyone using the RAV4’s cargo area frequently. Roof cross bars and baskets are relevant to Woodland owners and to buyers carrying bikes, skis, or camping equipment, but roof-rail compatibility, total roof load, and the accessory’s own weight limit must be checked before installation. The vehicle’s towing rating and roof rating are not interchangeable.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What independent testing adds
Manufacturer specifications explain what Toyota claims; independent evaluation adds context. In its review of the redesigned RAV4, Car and Driver characterized the model as a competitive hybrid-only compact SUV and praised the smooth, efficient hybrid powertrains, strong PHEV performance, and available technology. It also criticized interior materials, handling relative to some rivals, and noise from the conventional Hybrid engine under load.

Those observations and test results apply to the specific vehicle Car and Driver evaluated. They should not be generalized automatically to every grade, wheel-and-tire combination, or drivetrain. In particular, Toyota’s 5.4-second PHEV acceleration number remains a manufacturer-published claim unless and until an independent test is cited for a specific vehicle.

Should you buy the Hybrid or Plug-in Hybrid?
Choose the Hybrid if your priority is the lowest entry price, strong EPA-estimated fuel economy, and an electrified powertrain that does not require external charging. The LE provides the clearest value case, while SE, XLE Premium, Woodland, XSE, and Limited let buyers trade price for styling, outdoor equipment, comfort, or additional content.
Choose the PHEV if you can charge regularly and many of your daily trips fit within its electric range. It costs at least $9,600 more than the Hybrid LE before comparing equipment, but it adds standard AWD, substantially more power, meaningful electric-only range, and the potential to use much less gasoline on short trips. The PHEV SE is the price-conscious entry point; Woodland, XSE, and GR SPORT add different outdoor, sport, and equipment priorities.
The 2026 RAV4 is therefore not one simple trim decision. It is a choice between a lower-cost, efficient Hybrid family and a more expensive, faster PHEV family, followed by a decision about whether Core, Rugged, or Sport equipment best matches your use. Compare the exact window sticker, destination charge, dealer fees, available incentives, towing equipment, and fitment-specific accessories before signing a purchase order.
