The Toyota bZ Woodland and Subaru Trailseeker are closely matched electric SUVs: both have 375 hp, standard all-wheel drive and a 74.7-kWh battery. The better fit depends on trim and priorities. Subaru’s 2026 Trailseeker starts at $39,995 and lists up to 281 miles of range; Toyota’s 2027 bZ Woodland starts at $45,380 and estimates up to 281 miles with all-season tires. Toyota also publishes a 3,500-pound towing capacity, while the Subaru materials cited here do not establish a comparable figure.

Which should you buy?

Choose the Trailseeker if you want a lower published entry price and a choice of four trims. Its Premium trim pairs the lowest price with the highest stated range in Subaru’s chart. Choose the bZ Woodland if Toyota’s stated towing capacity, equipment, or trim details better match your needs. The two vehicles share the same headline power and battery capacity, but they are not interchangeable: their prices, cargo figures, charging details, and available equipment differ.

This comparison uses U.S. model-year information available on October 8, 2026. Toyota’s August 2026 announcement says the 2027 bZ Woodland’s features and specifications are unchanged from 2026. Prices and specifications below are identified by model year; dealer inventory, fees, incentives, and final transaction prices should be confirmed locally.

How much do they cost?

The 2026 Trailseeker’s published starting prices span $39,995 to $46,855. Toyota lists the 2026 bZ Woodland at $45,300 starting MSRP and the 2026 Premium at $47,400. For 2027, Toyota lists a $45,380 starting MSRP, excluding dealer processing and handling. Toyota’s 2027 announcement describes two versions: bZ Woodland AWD and bZ Woodland Premium AWD.

These are not like-for-like equipment prices: the Subaru figures cover four trim levels, while Toyota’s published 2027 starting figure is for the standard bZ Woodland AWD. Compare the features you want on the specific model years, and ask dealers about current fees, incentives, and availability. Subaru’s 2026 trim comparison and Toyota’s 2027 announcement provide the published details.

Which has more range?

The published figures overlap, but depend on trim and tires. Subaru’s 2026 trim comparison lists 281 miles for Trailseeker Premium and 274 miles for Limited, Touring, and Touring Leather. Toyota’s 2027 announcement gives manufacturer-estimated range of 281 miles with all-season tires or 260 miles with optional all-terrain tires. Toyota says range varies with speed, temperature, accessories, driving conditions, and charging habits. These are manufacturer figures, not results from a controlled head-to-head road test.

Subaru’s April 2025 launch announcement gave an earlier estimate of more than 260 miles and said it was still under development. Its later 2026 trim comparison provides the more specific figures above. For the model-year-specific Toyota tire options and range caveats, see Toyota’s 2027 announcement; Subaru’s current figures are in its 2026 trim comparison.

How fast do they charge?

Both have an 11-kW onboard Level 2 charger. Subaru lists DC fast charging up to 150 kW and an approximate 28-minute charge from 10% to 80% at a 150-kW charger. Toyota says a 10% to 80% DC fast charge takes around 30 minutes under ideal conditions. These manufacturer-stated times are not a controlled comparison; charging performance depends on conditions, and the quoted Toyota time is explicitly for ideal conditions.

Check model-year and trim fitment before buying cross bars or other roof equipment. Toyota’s 2026 utility page and Subaru’s trim comparison give the cited cargo and roof information.

How do their AWD and outdoor credentials compare?

Both vehicles are rated at 375 hp and have standard all-wheel drive. Toyota specifies 8.4 inches of ground clearance, X-MODE, Grip Control, and towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds. Subaru lists 8.5 inches of ground clearance and dual-function X-MODE. The Subaru documents cited here do not establish a comparable towing capacity, so a matching figure should not be assumed. Confirm Subaru’s current official towing specification if towing is a deciding factor.

See Subaru Corporation’s April 18, 2025 announcement.

What do the trims add?

Toyota bZ Woodland

The 2026 Toyota model page lists a $45,300 starting MSRP for bZ Woodland and $47,400 for Premium. The 2027 announcement lists a $45,380 starting MSRP and says the 2027 features and specifications are unchanged from 2026. Toyota’s base equipment includes heated front and outboard rear seats, a heated steering wheel, dual wireless Qi charging, a 14-inch touchscreen, and a 120V/1500W cargo-area outlet. Premium adds JBL nine-speaker audio, ventilated front seats, driver memory, a digital rearview mirror, front radiant foot and leg heaters, and a fixed panoramic glass roof. Check the model-year listing for the exact equipment and price of the vehicle you are considering. Toyota’s source pages are its 2026 model page and 2027 announcement.

Subaru Trailseeker

Premium is the entry trim and uses 18-inch wheels; Limited, Touring, and Touring Leather use 20-inch wheels. Premium lacks the panoramic roof, cargo-area AC outlet, and Harman Kardon audio listed for higher trims. Limited and above include a 120V/1500W cargo outlet and Harman Kardon audio. Touring and Touring Leather add the panoramic roof; Touring Leather has leather-trimmed upholstery. Subaru lists 107/126 MPGe highway/city for Premium and 103/125 MPGe for the higher trims. The trim comparison does not establish that wheel size alone causes the difference in range or MPGe. See Subaru’s 2026 Trailseeker trim comparison for the full equipment and specification list.

What should you verify before buying?

  • Compare the exact model year and trim, including the features you would otherwise add or give up.
  • Ask local dealers to confirm stock, final pricing, processing or other fees, incentives, and financing offers.
  • Check which charging connectors, adapters, and home-charging equipment are included with the vehicle on the lot.
  • If you plan to tow, confirm the current official Trailseeker capacity and the applicable limits for the specific vehicle and equipment.
  • For roof cargo, verify the rack and accessory fitment and load limits for the specific trim, especially if considering a Trailseeker outside Touring or Touring Leather.
  • Check insurance, service access, and charging access for your area, then test-drive both vehicles to compare seating, ride, visibility, and controls.
