2026 Subaru Trailseeker First Drive: Quick, Roomy, and Bigger Than Solterra

The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker pairs standard dual-motor all-wheel drive with 375 horsepower, and Subaru says it can reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds—the quickest production Subaru sold in the United States. It is also more than six inches longer and nearly an inch taller than the Solterra, according to Subaru. Those claims make the Trailseeker a larger, quicker electric Subaru, but the available evidence does not establish that it is the largest EV in Subaru’s full lineup.

How quick is the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker?

Subaru lists 375 horsepower from the Trailseeker’s standard dual-motor powertrain and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. In its Dec. 4, 2025 U.S. announcement, Subaru estimated a 0–60 mph time of 4.4 seconds and called it the quickest production Subaru sold in the United States. That is a manufacturer figure, not an independent acceleration test. Subaru says its revised all-wheel-drive system varies torque distribution; the announcement does not provide a comparative test against other electric SUVs. Subaru’s U.S. pricing and specification announcement details those claims.

How much range does the Trailseeker get, and how long does it take to charge?

Subaru’s current U.S. product page lists available range of more than 280 miles. Its Dec. 2025 announcement described approximately 280 miles from a 74.7-kWh battery, with DC fast charging up to 150 kW and an approximate 10–80% charge time of 28 minutes. These are Subaru figures, not a single independently verified result; real-world range and charging time vary with conditions, charging equipment and battery state. Rating procedures also differ by market, so these U.S. estimates should not be compared directly with Canada’s advertised range.

One reviewer’s experience offers a useful but limited real-world reference. John Velasco of Tom’s Guide reports driving a Touring for a week and covering 226.9 miles at an average of 3.7 miles per kWh. He recorded Level 1 charging at 3.01 miles of range per hour through the NACS port and advised drivers with long commutes to consider Level 2 charging. Those figures describe one reviewer’s test, not a standardized range or charging result. Tom’s Guide’s May 28, 2026 review lists that Touring at 274 miles of range and $48,400 as tested.

What to know before adding home-charging equipment

Subaru’s trim comparison lists an L1/L2 charging cable and NACS adapters as standard on the listed U.S. trims. Before buying a separate charger or adapter, check the vehicle’s included equipment, your home electrical capacity, connector compatibility and local installation requirements. Subaru advertises access to the Tesla Supercharger network, but station counts and access terms can change. The U.S. trim comparison identifies the listed standard charging equipment.

Is the Trailseeker bigger than the Solterra?

Yes, in the dimensions Subaru compares: it says the Trailseeker is more than six inches longer and nearly one inch taller than the Solterra, with added passenger and cargo room. Subaru lists 32.2 cubic feet of rear cargo volume, a figure it says is comparable to the 2026 Outback. The standard raised roof rails are rated for a 700-pound static load, and Subaru lists towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. The available comparison supports saying Trailseeker is larger than Solterra; it does not establish that Trailseeker is the largest EV in Subaru’s entire lineup.

What are its ground clearance and off-road modes?

Subaru’s current U.S. product page lists 8.5 inches of ground clearance and standard dual-function X-MODE. The company’s Dec. 2025 announcement instead listed 8.3 inches, so Subaru’s sources differ; use 8.5 inches as the current product-page figure while keeping that discrepancy in mind when making exact comparisons. The announcement describes Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes, along with Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control. Subaru’s current U.S. Trailseeker page carries its present ground-clearance figure.

What did the first-drive reviewer like—and criticize?

In his weeklong review, Velasco praised the Trailseeker’s agile cornering and spacious cargo packaging. He found the panoramic-roof mechanism noisy and said the infotainment software needed improvement. These are the reviewer’s subjective impressions, not objective measurements or conclusions about every owner’s experience.

How to compare Trailseeker range across markets

Subaru Canada advertises up to 444 km under ideal conditions and describes that as a Canada-market figure with an NRCan-based caveat. Its footnote says range can vary with driving and charging habits, speed, accessory use, weather and temperature, battery age, vehicle condition and road condition; in non-ideal conditions, the figure may worsen by more than 50%. Do not treat that kilometre figure as directly equivalent to Subaru’s U.S. estimate. For comparisons with other electric SUVs, line up the rating procedure, independently tested efficiency and test conditions, 10–80% charge time and peak rate, included charging equipment, ground clearance, towing capacity, cargo volume, trim content and price. Subaru Canada’s Trailseeker page provides its market-specific range qualification.
