2026 Subaru Trailseeker: An Adventure-Oriented Electric SUV, Not Yet a Rivian Rival

Subaru’s 2026 Trailseeker brings standard dual-motor AWD and adventure-focused positioning. Here are its current U.S. claims, trim prices, and what the evidence does—and doesn’t—show about Rivian.

Subaru’s 2026 Trailseeker is an all-electric SUV with standard dual motors and all-wheel drive, and the company is positioning it for adventure use. Subaru’s published specifications make it worth comparing with Rivian’s electric SUVs, but they do not establish that the Trailseeker is aimed at Rivian owners or that the vehicles are direct substitutes. Here’s what Subaru has confirmed for the U.S. model, what remains unclear, and what shoppers should compare.

What Subaru says the 2026 Trailseeker offers

Subaru of America currently advertises 375 horsepower, more than 280 miles of available range, 8.5 inches of ground clearance, and an approximately 28-minute charge from 10% to 80% for the U.S. Trailseeker. These are manufacturer-published figures, not independent test results; real-world range and charging time can vary with conditions. The company also lists standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and NACS compatibility for access to the Tesla Supercharger network. Subaru’s U.S. Trailseeker page is the place to check for current specifications.

That mix—dual-motor AWD, substantial stated clearance, and charging-network access—supports Subaru’s adventure-oriented positioning. It does not by itself establish how the vehicle performs on difficult terrain, or how it compares with any Rivian in range, charging, capability, or ownership costs.

2026 U.S. Trailseeker trims and listed prices

Subaru’s trim comparison lists four U.S. versions and prices. These are the amounts shown in Subaru’s comparison material at the time it was reviewed; check the current listing and a local retailer for live pricing, fees, incentives, and availability.

2026 U.S. trim Listed price
Premium $39,995
Limited $43,995
Touring $46,555
Touring Leather $46,855

These figures come from Subaru of America’s 2026 Trailseeker trim comparison. The comparison is a starting point, not a complete ownership-cost calculation: the listed prices do not establish local fees, current offers, or which features a particular buyer will value most.

Is Subaru targeting Rivian’s customer base?

The available official material describes the Trailseeker as an adventure-oriented Subaru EV, but it does not say Subaru is pursuing Rivian customers. Nor does it provide data showing that Trailseeker buyers and Rivian buyers overlap. Calling the SUV “coming for” Rivian’s outdoorsy EV customer base is therefore a competitive interpretation, not a confirmed company strategy or a demonstrated head-to-head result.

The most useful comparison is practical: assess each vehicle’s current price and equipment, usable range and charging options, passenger and cargo needs, and the terrain or towing demands you actually have. Subaru’s published numbers alone cannot settle which vehicle is the better fit.

What changed between the reveal and current U.S. figures?

Subaru of America revealed the Trailseeker at the 2025 New York International Auto Show and said U.S. retailer sales would begin in 2026. Its April 16, 2025 announcement labeled specifications preliminary and subject to change, and gave ground clearance as 8.3 inches. Subaru’s current U.S. product page instead advertises 8.5 inches. For the current U.S. figure, use the current product page rather than the older preliminary announcement.

Keep Japan-market range claims separate

Subaru Corporation’s April 9, 2026 announcement for Japan lists ranges of 627 km for the ET-HS and 734 km for the ET-SS. Those figures apply to Japanese grades and should not be presented as U.S. range estimates. Market, grade, and testing method affect range figures, so they are not directly interchangeable with Subaru of America’s U.S. claim of more than 280 miles of available range.

What shoppers should verify before choosing a Trailseeker

  • Trim equipment: Compare the current equipment lists for Premium, Limited, Touring, and Touring Leather. Do not assume a feature mentioned in general materials is standard on every trim.
  • Range and charging: Check the current U.S. specifications and consider your routes, weather, charging access, and likely charging stops. Subaru’s approximate 10%–80% time is a company claim, not a guarantee for every charging session.
  • Cargo and passenger fit: Verify the dimensions and layout against the people and gear you regularly carry; the reveal release’s comparison with Solterra does not give an exact cargo volume.
  • Terrain and towing: Subaru’s 2025 preliminary release stated towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds. Because that was a preliminary announcement, verify the current, trim-specific rating and requirements before towing.
  • Home charging: For a NACS-compatible charger, confirm compatibility with the vehicle and the electrical installation at your home. Connector fit alone does not confirm that a charger or circuit is suitable.
