Yes. Subaru says its current Stella is supplied by Daihatsu as an OEM vehicle, and its closest counterpart is the seventh-generation Daihatsu Move. The generation was announced in June 2025—not launched as a new 2026 redesign. Its styling may strike some buyers as quirky, but the concrete details are a broad, sharp front, vertical rear lamps and a thick horizontal body line.
Is the Subaru Stella just a Daihatsu Move?
In broad terms, yes: Subaru identifies the Stella as a Daihatsu-supplied OEM vehicle. The relevant counterpart is the seventh-generation Move, announced by Daihatsu on June 5, 2025; Subaru announced the Stella on June 12, 2025. Subaru’s launch announcement and Daihatsu’s Move announcement establish the relationship and chronology.
The “2026” label is useful as a current buying-context label, but it should not be read as evidence of a Stella debut or redesign in 2026. The sources establish the new generation’s 2025 announcement and current 2026 catalog context, not a separate 2026 launch.
What changed with the current Stella?
Rear sliding doors
The notable practical change is the addition of rear sliding doors. Subaru says they make it easier to get in and load items compared with the predecessor. Power operation is standard on G, Z and ZS grades; the L grade does not receive that standard fitment according to Subaru’s launch information.

Equipment and driver aids
A 9-inch smartphone-linked display audio system and Qi wireless charging are available options. Subaru also describes upgrades to Smart Assist, with lane-departure suppression and lane-sway warnings listed as standard. These are driver-assistance features, not a guarantee that a collision or lane departure will be prevented.
Why the styling can look quirky
“Quirky” is a subjective reaction, not an official specification or a conclusion from an independent styling test. Subaru’s own description points to a wide, sharp-looking front with visual continuity between grille and headlamps, vertical rear combination lamps and a substantial horizontal line along the sides. Coordinated colors across the seats, instrument panel and door trim, plus a lower-set display intended to leave the upper dashboard clear, shape the cabin.

Subaru lists 12 body-color choices, including Grace Brown Crystal Mica and two-tone combinations. Those details give the small car a more assertive visual treatment than a plain-sided city hatchback, though whether that feels playful or odd depends on the buyer.

The current Subaru Japan grade page lists four grades. The prices below are Japanese manufacturer-suggested prices, tax included, and may change; they are not U.S. or export-market pricing. Subaru specifies 38 kW (52 PS) for naturally aspirated grades and 47 kW (64 PS) for the ZS turbo in its launch announcement. The listed comparison points are price, 2WD versus 4WD, equipment level and the choice between naturally aspirated power and the turbo ZS.

Subaru’s specifications page lists dimensions of 3,395 × 1,475 × 1,655 mm, seating for four, a 658 cc three-cylinder engine and CVT transmission. Its specification listing gives 22.6 km/L for naturally aspirated 2WD and 21.5 km/L for turbo 2WD under WLTC. Because specification pages can be revised and older figures may remain indexed, confirm the values against the live grade page for the exact grade and model year before making a purchase decision. Genuine accessories and fitment
Subaru’s genuine accessory catalog lists Stella carpet mats for the front and rear, a split luggage tray, visors, mud guards and exterior styling components. The catalog is evidence that model-specific accessories exist; it does not establish Amazon stock or compatibility for a third-party listing. Check the generation and grade before buying. What the Move’s sales history does—and does not—say
Daihatsu reported more than 3.4 million cumulative Move and Move Custom units as of March 31, 2025. That figure covers those nameplates over their history; it is not sales of the current generation or of the Subaru Stella. Daihatsu’s announcement also calls the new Move the first Move to adopt sliding doors, while describing the design in promotional terms. Neither claim is an independent consumer assessment of the styling or a road test.
