The 2026 Skoda Slavia’s most consequential update is the 1.0 TSI’s new eight-speed torque-converter automatic. In Autocar India’s brief first drive, it was more controlled pulling away and smooth once underway—an improvement for city use, though not proof of long-term reliability or fuel economy. The facelift otherwise builds on the Slavia’s established strengths in space, boot capacity and highway composure, while retaining a firm low-speed ride and a few equipment gaps.
What changed on the 2026 Skoda Slavia?
Skoda Auto India unveiled the updated Slavia on 18 August 2026. The changes span the powertrain, lighting, cabin technology and convenience equipment rather than a fundamental redesign. The company describes the car as using its MQB-A0-IN platform, developed for Indian conditions. Its launch announcement says the technical information is provisional pending homologation, and equipment can vary by variant.
- Revised LED headlamps and taillamps, with sequential rear indicators, plus new alloy-wheel designs and interior themes.
- A 1.0 TSI offered with a six-speed manual or new eight-speed torque-converter automatic; the 1.5 TSI remains paired with a seven-speed DSG.
- Rear-seat massage, a 360-degree Area View camera and front parking sensors are among the added or highlighted features; availability depends on trim.
- A 10.25-inch digital cockpit and 10.1-inch infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are listed in the announcement, but check the specific variant for fitment.
- Rear disc brakes are added to 1.5 TSI variants.
Skoda says the Slavia carries forward a five-star Global NCAP credential. Autocar India clarifies that the five-star result belongs to the pre-facelift Slavia; it is not a new independent crash-test result for the updated car. Skoda also lists six airbags as standard in its announcement.
Does the new Slavia automatic improve city driving?
On the 1.0 TSI, yes, based on Autocar India’s short first drive. The new Aisin AQ300 eight-speed torque converter replaces the previous AQ250 six-speed unit. Autocar found it more controlled when moving away from a standstill, smooth in shifts once the car was moving and quick to respond in manual mode. Those observations make the change relevant to stop-start traffic, where a calm launch and predictable response matter.

There are qualifications: the reviewer described the ratios as short-feeling and noticed some three-cylinder vibration at idle, particularly before the engine was running smoothly. This is a first-drive impression, not evidence about long-term durability, real-world ownership costs or fuel consumption. Autocar had not tested facelift fuel efficiency or timed the 1.0’s acceleration when it published its review on 4 October 2026.

Autocar judged the 1.5 TSI the stronger, more effortless performer. The trade-off is straightforward: the facelift’s 1.5 is DSG-only, so buyers who want a manual must select the 1.0. The official Slavia model page lists the current engine and transmission choices and cautions that specifications may vary or change.

What remains strong about the Slavia?
Space and everyday practicality
Autocar India highlights generous rear legroom and footroom, supportive front seats and a 521-litre boot. Taller rear passengers may find headroom tight, and the shape of the rear bench plus the central transmission hump make the back seat more naturally suited to two adults than three.
Handling and highway comfort
The reviewer praised predictable handling and high-speed stability. The suspension has a firm edge over low-speed bumps, but Autocar found the car composed at highway speeds and over uneven surfaces. That balance favours buyers who regularly travel on faster roads; it may be less agreeable on broken urban routes taken slowly.

What are the main trade-offs and missing features?
The facelift adds useful convenience, but it does not remove every compromise. Autocar notes the continuing firm low-speed ride and equipment omissions versus some rivals, including an electronic parking brake and ADAS. Whether those absences matter depends on your priorities and the exact competing trims being considered; compare equipment feature by feature rather than assuming every rival includes it as standard.
Rear-seat use is another practical decision point. If adults regularly occupy all three rear positions, sit in the car together before choosing; the middle position and limited headroom for taller passengers can matter more than a specification sheet suggests.

How should you compare it with rivals?
Consider the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Volkswagen Virtus alongside the Slavia, but make the comparison around your own use rather than declaring a universal winner. In particular, weigh these questions:
- For city driving, does the 1.0 TSI automatic feel smoother and easier to manage on your regular stop-start route?
- Is the 1.5 TSI’s stronger performance worth accepting a DSG-only choice?
- How does the Slavia’s firm low-speed ride compare with the ride comfort you want on your usual roads, and how much do you value its highway composure?
- Do its rear-seat space, boot and actual variant equipment meet your needs better than the specific rival trims you can buy?
A back-to-back test drive on the same route is more useful than a quick spin on an unfamiliar road. Include a rough urban stretch and, if practical, a faster road; try the rear seats with your usual passengers and inspect the boot.

Price, warranty and purchase details
As of the sources available on 5 October 2026, the facelift’s final price had not been confirmed: Autocar said prices would follow in the coming days, while RushLane’s 5 October review reported an announcement was expected on 6 October. Skoda’s announced ₹15,000 amount is for pre-booking, not the car’s price. Check the latest official price list and a written dealer quote before deciding.
Skoda’s 18 August announcement listed a standard four-year/100,000-kilometre warranty, four years of roadside assistance and four labour-free services for up to two years or 30,000 kilometres. Confirm the terms, eligibility and any current offer for the delivered variant with the dealer, since the announcement alone does not establish the precise terms of a later purchase.
Skoda Auto India said nearly 80,000 Slavias had been sold as of its August 2026 announcement. That is the manufacturer’s sales figure, not an independent measure of reliability or customer satisfaction.
