Shelby American unveiled the limited-edition 2026 Super Snake-R during Monterey Collector Car Week on August 13, 2025. Based on the Ford Mustang Dark Horse, it pairs a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 with a track-focused chassis and body package. Shelby rates it at 850+ flywheel horsepower on 93-octane fuel in the United States; that is the manufacturer’s figure, not an independently measured result.
What is the 2026 Shelby Super Snake-R?
The Super Snake-R is Shelby American’s first model to use the “R” designation. It is a limited-edition 2026 sports car built from the Ford Mustang Dark Horse, rather than a version of the earlier 2024 Super Snake. Shelby describes the R as a track-oriented package, with changes to suspension, bodywork, cooling and chassis hardware as well as a supercharged engine.
Shelby CEO Joe Conway linked the name to the company’s motorsport history: “The Shelby Super Snake’s roots come from a rich motorsport history as the first Shelby Super Snake in 1967 was built for high speed runs on the racetrack.”
How much power does the Super Snake-R make?
Shelby lists a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 rated at 850+ flywheel horsepower on 93-octane fuel in the United States. The release gives 98 octane ratings for Europe and other markets. These are Shelby’s published ratings; the official announcement does not establish independent dyno testing, acceleration times or lap times.

What makes the R package track-focused?
The package extends well beyond added engine output. Shelby specifies adjustable coil-over suspension, front and rear sway bars, caster-camber plates and a harness-bar cross member, alongside a performance radiator, two-piece slotted brake rotors and performance half shafts. The configurator lists forged one-piece magnesium wheels measuring 20 x 11 inches at the front and 20 x 13 inches at the rear, with Shelby-spec performance tires.

The exterior uses metallic wide-body panels and a mix of aluminum and carbon-fiber components, including hood pieces, vents, fenders, front splitter and struts, rocker pieces, rear diffuser and wing. Shelby also lists a rear-seat delete, embroidered seat coverings and floor mats, a serialized CSM dash badge and engine plate, and a billet shifter knob. Painted stripes and race-inspired vinyl graphics are listed as options.
Shelby reports a vehicle weight of 4,004 pounds, 116 pounds more than a base Mustang Dark Horse. It identifies the tires as Michelin 335-35-20s but does not publish a model name in the cited specifications.

Vince LaViolette, Shelby American vice president of operations and senior designer, said: “The new suspension is a real game changer. The R is far more solid, more connected and more poised than any other Super Snake we’ve built.” That is Shelby’s characterization; no independent track result is established in the announcement.
Which transmissions are available?
Shelby lists a six-speed Tremec TR-3160 manual or a 10-speed automatic. The manual version includes a short-throw shifter and one-piece driveshaft, which Shelby marks as manual-only equipment.

What is the Super Snake-R price?
Shelby announced a U.S. starting price of $224,995, including the base Ford Mustang Dark Horse. The release says this price is based on a 600A Dark Horse. Shelby’s configurator cautions that base-chassis pricing and configurations vary, so its displayed package amount should not be treated as the full vehicle price without accounting for the base car and selected configuration.

Shelby directed U.S. buyers to authorized distributors. It said select international distributors or modification shops may build a limited number. The announcement gives a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and says Ford’s powertrain warranty remains intact, but configuration-specific notes warrant careful confirmation before purchase.
