Nissan has retuned the CVT, so the transmission’s calibration changes even though the core powertrain combination carries over. Nissan announced the U.S. model on September 23, 2025, and published its trim MSRPs on November 10, 2025.
What is new on the 2026 Nissan Sentra?
The ninth-generation Sentra gets a substantial exterior and cabin redesign. Nissan describes the exterior as bolder and wider-looking, with an evolved V-motion grille, slim projector LED headlights and sharper body surfaces. Yet Nissan says the car’s physical dimensions are nearly identical to those of its predecessor: the impression of added width comes from the design, not meaningful growth.
Nissan design director Lihao Yu said the team used “stretched lines that make Sentra appear wider, bolder and more dynamic.” That is the company’s explanation of the styling, rather than an independent assessment.
Inside, the emphasis is on a more premium feel and available technology. Depending on trim, buyers can get dual 12.3-inch displays, Bose audio and additional comfort features. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Safety Shield 360 are standard, while equipment such as ProPILOT Assist is available on select configurations.

The SL returns as the premium-oriented trim. Nissan lists a sunroof, quilted TailorFit seating, Bose audio and ProPILOT Assist among its equipment. The SR, by contrast, is the sportier-looking grade; its appearance does not mean it has a different engine.
Does the 2026 Nissan Sentra have the same engine?
Yes. Every 2026 Sentra uses a 2.0-liter inline-four producing 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, paired with Nissan’s Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). The engine and transmission type carry over, but Nissan says it retuned the CVT to provide what it describes as more natural, smooth acceleration.

Sport mode is available on SV, SR and SL. Nissan says it sharpens throttle response and makes the transmission’s shifting behavior more performance-oriented; it does not add power or change the engine.
Nissan also reports standard idle stop/start, independent strut front and multi-link rear suspension, standard rear disc brakes and a unibody with 6% greater rigidity than the predecessor. Those are manufacturer-reported specifications and engineering claims, not independent test results.

What are the 2026 Sentra trim levels and prices?
Nissan’s U.S. pricing release, dated November 10, 2025, listed four trims. The figures below are announced MSRPs, not current dealer transaction prices.
| Trim | Announced MSRP | EPA-estimated fuel economy |
|---|---|---|
| S | $22,600 | 30 city / 38 highway / 33 combined mpg |
| SV | $23,370 | 30 city / 38 highway / 33 combined mpg |
| SR | $25,000 | 29 city / 36 highway / 32 combined mpg |
| SL | $27,990 | 29 city / 36 highway / 32 combined mpg |
Nissan lists destination and handling at $1,245. Its MSRPs exclude destination and handling, taxes, title, license and options; dealers set the actual selling price. The mileage figures are estimates Nissan cited from the 2025 EPA estimates in its 2025 release, for comparison, and actual mileage varies with driving conditions.

Nissan cites 2025 EPA estimates of 30 mpg city, 38 mpg highway and 33 mpg combined for the S and SV. For SR and SL, the cited estimates are 29 city, 36 highway and 32 combined. These are comparison estimates, not a promise of real-world results; driving conditions affect actual mileage.

What Nissan’s debut announcement does—and does not—establish
The launch information supports a clear summary: the Sentra’s most significant changes are its styling, cabin presentation and technology availability, while the engine and CVT pairing remains. Nissan says the CVT calibration has changed, and it reports chassis and rigidity updates, but its announcement does not establish how the car performs in independent road testing or how its ride and handling compare with rivals.
Nissan said at the September 2025 unveiling that the Sentra nameplate had been in production for more than four decades and had sold over 6.5 million units. Those are company-reported historical figures, not specifications of the 2026 model.
