It shares much of its plug-in-hybrid hardware with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV; in an August 2026 comparison, Autoblog favored the updated Outlander for its greater power, electric range, efficiency and charging capability. The Rogue’s strongest case is its reported ride comfort and Nissan-brand appeal.
What is the 2026 Nissan Rogue Plug-In Hybrid?
Nissan calls the 2026 Rogue Plug-In Hybrid its first U.S. plug-in hybrid. It combines a 2.4-liter gasoline engine, two electric motors and a 20-kWh battery, with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive standard. It has three rows and seating for seven. Its close mechanical relationship to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is central to the comparison: the Rogue retains an older configuration for 2026 while Mitsubishi updates the Outlander.
Nissan lists 248 horsepower. Its current specifications page gives torque as 332 lb-ft, while a February 10, 2026 Nissan News release says 322 lb-ft; Nissan’s published figures therefore conflict. How far can the Rogue PHEV go on electric power?
Nissan advertises up to 38 miles of all-electric range, 420 miles of total range and 64 MPGe. Those are published estimates, not a guarantee of what a particular driver will achieve. The electric range can cover many routine local trips if the SUV starts the day charged, while the gasoline engine provides a way to continue beyond the battery’s electric-only range. Nissan describes EV, series-hybrid and parallel-hybrid operation; the precise balance of electric and engine power depends on driving conditions and selected mode.
How long does it take to charge, and can it use a fast charger?
Nissan lists 7.5 hours for charging at 240 volts and describes home Level 2 charging. It says a portable charging cable is standard, so buying a separate home charger is optional rather than an automatic requirement. The Rogue does not support DC fast charging, according to the direct comparison coverage. That limits the option of adding substantial charge during a road-trip stop. By contrast, select 2026 Outlander PHEV trims offer DC fast charging, as reported by Autoblog; buyers should confirm current connector and trim details with the manufacturer before choosing a charging setup.
Nissan lists EV, Save, Charge and Normal drive modes, plus e-Step regenerative braking and adjustable regenerative-braking paddles. These features give drivers options for when to use stored battery power and how the vehicle slows when they lift off the accelerator, but they do not change the stated charging-time or DC-fast-charging limits.

What is it like to drive?
First-drive impressions
After less than an hour behind the wheel, Adam Ismail of The Drive described the powertrain as peppy for the segment and the vehicle as an Outlander PHEV with Nissan trim. That is a brief first impression, not a long-term assessment or a same-day head-to-head test. MotorTrend’s first-drive account also characterized the motor-led powertrain as smooth and quick. These are publications’ driving impressions rather than independent test results from this article.
Ride and steering versus the Outlander
For its August 26, 2026 comparison, Cole Attisha of Autoblog spent a week in each 2026 plug-in hybrid around Vancouver, British Columbia. He described the Rogue as soft-riding and comfortable, with light, vague steering; he found the updated Outlander sharper. Those subjective judgments suggest a clear trade-off for shoppers: the Nissan may suit someone who prizes a gentler ride, while the Mitsubishi was the more engaging choice for that tester.

2026 Rogue PHEV vs. Outlander PHEV: which twin is stronger?
Autoblog’s published comparison gives the updated 2026 Outlander the advantage in several headline powertrain measures. The values below are as reported in that comparison, rather than new measurements made for this review.

The 420-mile total-range figures and other comparisons are reported by Autoblog, while Nissan separately advertises up to 420 miles for the Rogue. Differences in equipment, test conditions and official rating sources matter; the table is a useful snapshot of the comparison, not a promise of identical real-world driving. Autoblog’s 2026 Rogue PHEV and Outlander PHEV comparison recommends the Mitsubishi overall, citing its advantages in power, electric range, efficiency and charging capability.

The Rogue can still be the better fit for an individual buyer if its ride character, Nissan dealer relationship or preferred trim weighs more than the Outlander’s stronger published powertrain specifications. The available comparison does not establish a warranty advantage for either vehicle, so warranty terms should be checked directly before treating them as a deciding point.
What do the Rogue PHEV trims cost?
Nissan’s specifications page lists starting MSRPs of $45,990 for the SL and $49,990 for the Platinum, plus a $1,545 destination charge. These are published starting prices, not a guarantee of a dealer’s current transaction price; inventory, taxes, fees and offers can change the amount a buyer pays.
