The 2026 Nissan Pathfinder is a refreshed three-row midsize SUV, not an all-new generation. Its main updates are revised exterior styling, a restyled dashboard and a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It seats up to eight, and Nissan rates towing at 3,500 pounds as standard or up to 6,000 pounds on specified trims and configurations. The figures make it worth comparing with other family SUVs, but they do not establish how it drives: the available independent coverage is a comparison, not a detailed first-drive road test.
What changed for the 2026 Pathfinder?
Nissan’s November 13, 2025 press kit describes a refresh rather than a new generation. The changes include updated front and rear fascias, satin exterior badges, a new Baltic Teal paint color and a restyled dashboard. Every grade gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SL and Platinum add a 12.3-inch digital instrument display; Platinum also gets revised wheels, seat quilting and wood-tone trim. Nissan also lists newly available HD Enhanced Intelligent Around View Monitor, Front Wide View and Invisible Hood technologies. Availability depends on grade and equipment, so check the window sticker or build sheet for the specific vehicle rather than assuming every Pathfinder has them.
How does the seating and cargo layout work?
The Pathfinder has three rows and seats up to eight with a second-row bench. Available second-row captain’s chairs reduce capacity to seven. Nissan says its LATCH AND GLIDE second row can tip and slide with a child safety seat installed, which may help with access to the third row when a child seat is fitted. Nissan lists a 60/40 split-folding third-row bench.

Nissan’s published cargo figures are 16.6 cubic feet behind the third row and 80.5 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. The 16.6-cubic-foot figure is the more useful one when evaluating family errands with all seats in use; the maximum figure describes a different configuration. These manufacturer measurements do not establish that the Pathfinder is roomier than a competitor. Try the actual child seats, passengers and luggage you expect to carry.
How much can a 2026 Nissan Pathfinder tow?
Nissan lists a standard towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. The maximum rises to 6,000 pounds on Rock Creek and Platinum, and on SV or SL models equipped with the applicable Premium package. Package contents relevant to towing include a hitch receiver, 7-pin wiring harness and enhanced transmission cooling. An Edmunds towing roundup republished by AP gives a midsize travel trailer, midsize boat and relatively lightweight car hauler as examples that may fit the 6,000-pound rating. Those are examples, not a guarantee that a particular trailer is compatible. Check the loaded trailer weight, vehicle payload, hitch and all applicable limits for the specific vehicle and trailer. What engine, drivetrain and fuel economy does it have?
Every Pathfinder uses a 3.5-liter V6 paired with a nine-speed automatic. Nissan lists 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque for the standard engine; Rock Creek is rated at 295 hp and 270 lb-ft. Intelligent 4×4 is available across the lineup and standard on Rock Creek. Nissan says 4×4 models have seven drive and terrain modes. These specifications do not substitute for independent acceleration, ride, handling, braking or cabin-noise testing.

Which technology and safety features are standard?
The 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard across grades, according to Nissan. The 12.3-inch instrument display is listed for SL and Platinum, while Platinum also includes a head-up display. Nissan’s press materials list ProPILOT Assist and other driver-assistance features across the lineup, with availability varying by trim. Confirm specific equipment on the vehicle you are considering and consult its owner’s manual for system limitations. Driver assistance does not make the vehicle autonomous or replace the driver’s responsibility.

An Edmunds comparison republished by AP describes the refreshed cabin as a big step up and says second- and third-row passengers will appreciate the space. In that comparison, the Explorer comes out ahead for fun and versatility. That is one comparison’s view, not a segment-wide consensus or a detailed Pathfinder road-test verdict. The available independent material does not provide a dedicated 2026 Pathfinder first-drive assessment with detailed impressions of ride, handling, acceleration, braking or cabin noise. If those qualities will determine your choice, test-drive the exact trim and drivetrain you plan to buy and compare it directly with the alternatives on your shortlist.
Which Pathfinder trims should you compare?
Nissan lists four grades for the U.S. lineup: SV, Rock Creek, SL and Platinum. Compare equipment and capability on the actual vehicles, paying particular attention to the tow package and drivetrain rather than relying on a trim name alone.
- SV: Available with 2WD or 4WD. The 6,000-pound tow rating requires the applicable Premium package; otherwise Nissan’s standard rating is 3,500 pounds.
- Rock Creek: The more off-road-oriented version, with standard Intelligent 4×4, off-road-tuned suspension, lifted ride height, all-terrain tires and a tubular roof rack. Nissan lists 295 hp and a 6,000-pound tow rating. Its 2026 Premium package adds comfort and convenience equipment.
- SL: Available with 2WD or 4WD and includes the 12.3-inch instrument display. The 6,000-pound tow rating requires the applicable Premium package.
- Platinum: Available with 2WD or 4WD, with a 12.3-inch instrument display and head-up display listed by Nissan. Nissan lists a 6,000-pound tow rating.
For a fair comparison with another three-row SUV, match drivetrain and equipment, then check real-world second-row access with child seats, cargo space with all seats occupied, safety and infotainment features, EPA estimates, and towing equipment. What practical accessories are available?
Nissan lists carpeted and all-season floor mats, high-wall liners, cargo-area protectors, a removable tote organizer, cargo net, cargo blocks and a seatback organizer. The brochure also identifies affiliated Yakima accessories, including a RidgeBack 4 hitch rack and OffGrid cargo basket. Confirm year and trim fit before buying any accessory.

Nissan says its genuine accessories are custom-fit and custom-designed.
